I purchased two horses so I’m more than happy with my haul, if you can call it that…
Midnight Snack was a $40,500 purchase. She was purchased mainly as a breeding horse due to her linage. She is by Sneek Peak who was a National Champion rated steeplechaser. He is a nice stallion by What’s It Worth and out of blue hen mare Doubletake. Midnight Snack will be his first runner and only foal to run next year. I’m predicting a bit of a late mature date for her, probably late 3-Y-O year or early 4-Y-O year. Midnight Snack’s dam is York Peppermint, a winner on the track. Midnight will be her first foal to race. She is a Dr. Time mare, most of whoms progeny have won races. Peppermint Twist is Midnight’s granddam. She was a winner on the track. Her foals include two stakes winners and one stakes placed from six raced. I’d say Midnight probably isn’t going to have a stellar racing career, but she should do alright as a broodmare in a few years.
Timeless Moment was a $28,500 purchase, which I thought was quite cheap given her lines. She is by Worth The Wait who was a phenomenal International Champion rated runner. He has nice lines too being by What’s It Worth and out of Rise And Shine. Timeless Moment is also going to be one of the first progeny of Worth The Wait to run. I’m predicting maturity as a 3-Y-O, possibly late 2-Y-O. Timeless’ dam is Moment In Paradise. She was unplaced as a racer. Her sire is Resident Evil who is an average sire. He has two stakes winning 3-Y-O’s and is doing fine as a broodmare sire with a multi-stakes winner and a stakes placed out of mares he sired. Timeless Moment’s real class filters from her granddam. Lasting Impression is a terrific mare who features on the Reine-de-Course list. She has six raced foals. Two are multi-stakes winners, one stakes placed and two winners. Her daughter Make An Impression was crowned 2003 Champion 3-Y-O Filly. Her foals are also doing excellent on the track and include multi-stakes winner Lasting Glory and hot 2-Y-O multi-stakes winner Last Cigar. Hopefully Timeless Moment shows some class as a racehorse, but if not, I’m sure she’ll be a nice mare in the breeding shed.
So yeah, I’m happy with my purchases. How did you all do?
Well I spent the maximum amount, on one horse, but it is the one I wanted so I’m happy.
Luck’sonmyside now Sleipnir (I liked his name, but Sleipnir came to me suddenly, I thought it was a strong name, Sleipnir being Odin’s 8-legged horse) is a son of National Champion Lucky Cigar, who is a winner of the American Triple Crown, and is also out of the outstanding stud Cigar. Lucky Cigar has sired 6 Multiple Stakes Winners including multi-millionare Akhetnaten and millionares Set For Luck and Silver Screen.
Sleipnir is out of National Champion You Belong who herself is a daughter of the famous stallion Danzig. You Belong has produced 5 foals that are on the track, and all are winners.
With two National Champions as parents I imagine Sleipnir will turn out to be a very nice racehorse, though one never knows, genes do tend to like to surprise us.
Heh, well, I somehow managed to get 3 babies for $500 each, so either I’m really lucky or have bad taste. Either way I bought three weanlings to join the two beautiful ones I already have…
Back To The Future (formerly Actforthefuture) is a colt by Class Act out of Swan’s Past. Class Act seems to have been a sire who went in and out of vogue, but he has produced several black-type foals. Swan’s Past has produced several winners and a SP colt. I’m hoping for good things from this boy.
Evil Omen is by Moonover Boy out of Darling Evil. To be honest, I mostly bought him because I liked his name and his looks (all black, with a name like that…he could star in movies if he didn’t make it on the track. ) However, Moonover Boy has produced a decent number of black-type and winning foals, so this one should be a good runner as well.
Zoo Music Girl (formerly Crayon Mona Lisa) is by Gone Haywire out of Savage Loyalty. Haywire is a pretty average sire, but his foals have all at least won races, and I enjoy the colt I already have from him. Savage Loyalty has only had one other foal so far who will not race until next year. Things are still very much up in the air for this one but hopefully if she doens’t like racing she’ll be a good mommy instead.
I also have a couple of very beautiful weanlings from CCL’s dispersal, so all in all I feel like I’m set up to have my hands good and full in a couple of years.
I purchased two yearlings and a weanling. I was looking to get at least a couple of females for future breeding.
So Many Roads - (Formerly Endless Search) - Yearling Colt by Chef-de-Race Stallion Cross Roads. That was the main selling point for me. Is out of a mare who only has 2 foals to race, one who is a Winner. Paid $20,500 for him.
West L.A. Fadeaway - (Formerly Maid of Honor) - Yearling Filly by Chef-de-Race Stallion Planet Hollywood. 1/2 to SP Mark My Word and dam has produced 2 other Multiple Winners. Paid $39,500 for her.
Estimated Prophet - (Formerly Scripted Reality) - Weanling Filly by Chef-de-Race Stallion Planet Hollywood. 1/2 to SP Admiraless. Dam has also produced 3 other Winners. Paid $30,500 for her.
I am very happy with my purchases, got some nice horses that should turn out to be solid runners. Hopefully these fillies will become nice broodmares in the future.
Well I REALLY wanted Luck’sonmyside but Oakwood got the luck of the draw…
So I picked up a couple weanlings. This isn’t official because there was a bit of an error in the code and the horses went back to their original owners… That should be fixed soon though… Anyways I picked up
Daisy Doo - Shes a cute little filly. Her sire is Black Gold who has had a fair amount of stakes foals. Her dam Strawberry Wine doesn’t have any foals racing yet so it’s a toss up as to whether she’ll produce good runners or not.
Signopoly ES - was my last purchase. Her sire is Moonopoly who is yet to have any foals racing, however, her grandsire has great success in his foals. His dam Sounds of Silence is yet to have any foals racing. So again it is a toss up to see how she will run. If she doesn’t run well then she’ll make a decent broodmare
I got out with Clairmark Classic and Whispering Embers and I couldnt be happier with these two girls! I have high hopes for them in racing but even if they dont do well I know that one day they will make good broodmares.
Jason took the one filly that I was hoping to go for full out. Midnight Snack! Darn you Jason. Lol No hard feelings I took Clairmark Classic instead. Hope you dont mind.
I purchased Resounding Echo; who is now Ricochet. She is a daughter of Easy Goer and is out of Highland Echo. She is a half sister to two stakes winners.
I also purchased Untameable; who is now Andraste. She is a daughter of Hellcat and is out of Is She Kinda Magic. She is a half sister to one stakes winner.
They’re my only two years olds so I’m hoping at least one of them turns out to be a decent runner.
As usual I went for one of the $100k fillies in the auction… I was soo torn! I ended up letting Shanthi have Fantasy Cross… so I took home Firefoxx… I have her mother, and her stakes winning 1/2 sister… and who can go wrong with a filly by War Admiral?
-Kerry
P.S. $500 weanlings are awesome… I fell in love with a certain blood bay colt that I picked up at auction for $500…… Best Kept Secret has certainly paid me back!
Kim: Daisy Doo has a great damline. Look a little further into her pedigree and you’ll see a 2-Y-O Triple Crown winner and a yearling currently for sale with a bid of over $500,000. She’ll be valuble as a broodmare if nothing else.
Rachel: Haha, thanks for Midnight Snack! I really wanted a nice I’m A Classic yearling, but with a bit of a stronger damline. Hope she does well for you anyway, guess I’ll keep looking for my I’m A Classic filly!
I got away with 3 weanlings. No yearlings for me :? Though I had my eye on a couple, they just weren’t in the card for me, I guess.
Townsend Wild I’ve been dying to get my hands on a Townsend baby since I joined. This was mainly because I was obsessed with the books growing up. But hopefully she’ll turn into a good runner and broodmare.
The Big Easy I thought this looked like a nice colt. He has stakes winner siblings from 02 or 03… his sire didn’t have many babies for a couple years, and this colt is apart of the new batch. Excited to see what comes of him.
Honour This is the filly I really wanted, so I’m incredibly happy I got her. I really wanted a baby by Starz ‘n’ Stripes. I’m really impressed with this stallion. She’s be a great broodmare, if anything!
[color=red]Holier Than Thou - cute little bay filly that stands 15.2. She’s out of Worth the Roses, who is by What’s it Worth. Worth the Roses has one other foal of Racing age, Highland Glory who is a winner at 2. I’m excited to see how Worth turns out as a Broodmare Sire. She’s by Heza Gallant Gent whose first crop hit the track this year. Legally bay is already stakes placed, and two more are winners. ’
[color=red] Brass Ring ( Formerly Chance for Success) - A nice little blue roan filly, also standing 15.2. Out of Last Chance, she’s half to SP Evencowgirlsgettheblues. Sired by NCh. Hope To Succeed, who has also sired the MSW Always a Princess, and Royal Success. I’m looking forward to seeing how she runs.
Both of them, regardless of how they run will make good broodmares in the years to come.
Good luck with Holy, Rhiannon. I liked her thanks to her sire, but she also had a sentimental connection because I bred/raced her dam. However, I had to go with my Sorceress grandbaby instead.
