I decided to ignore this auction completely given I own 57 yearlings and 90 weanlings… :-/
Wow everyone got really good ones when you dig into their pedigrees!
Ah thanks for clearing that up about the RDC Shanthi I can’t wait to see if it carries through but I bought all weanies!
I have a love/hate relationship with naming so all names are currently pending my future whimsy
The first filly by Rock of Gibraltar out of Dream Girl is now named [color=red]The Dream Stone
[color=red]Goldensands NCh. Golden Text x Ch. Monterey Bay (Fleet Street(S))
Neither one of her parents are proven but her Dam is an MSP owned by FF so I thought she was a good bargain at 1k
[color=blue]Izquicker Tiznow (B) x GCh. Engaging (Created)
Tiznow has a pretty poor record but as his Dam is a Multi-Millionaire I took the chance at 1k since I lost some of my first choices
[color=blue]Sunday Shenanigans NCh. Conflagration x Sunday Best (S) (Sunday Silence(S))
I bought this guy for 10.5k, one of my first picks. He is half to a SP and a MSW who is only 3 this year, he has two other half siblings, one owned by FF and the other unraced
[color=blue]Midnight in Omaha NCh. Black Warrior X Ch. Back to Omaha (Omaha (s))
Very happy with this boy, another at 1k and although Black Warrior is yet unproven a lot of What’s It Worths’ breeding progeny have good rankings. His dam Back to Omaha never really got to show her full potential, only racing at ages 4 & 5 and being retired right after a Gr. 1 win so I think he has some good blood in his veins!
Thank goodness we can only have five from this auction - i was going to avoid it but had a quick look and was lost! Some of the names will be changed/given when I have time to think them through though.
[color=red]Warrior Witch (Call to War x Zatanna)$1,000 dam has only 2 foals on the track, both winners and one a stakes winner so i hope this girl will follow suit. We will be seeing her sires first crop run next year and looking forward to that.
[color=blue]Unnamed (Tottenham Hotspur x Dancing Chevron) $15,500 This was the one i wanted and was pleased to get him for this price. This is his sires first crop and I like that he has a good speed record over distance and that his full brother also has a great race record over classic and long distance. i hope this ability will get passed on. his dam was created but is a stakes placed and stakes winner despite being a FF owned horse and may not have always had her races well selected.
[color=blue]Clansman (Highland Laird x Rubamatic) $1,000 I can’t really believe I picked up a laird baby for $1,000! His dam is another FF mare and so randomly entered in races. despite this she was OTB 12 times from 18 starts and was stakes placed on 2 occasions. so i’m hoping for good things from this little chap
[color=blue]Hide In The Corner $1,000 ( Express Yourself x Miss Kelly)his sire is beautifully bred with both parents multi stakes winners, stakes placed and millionaires. He has won over all distances and both surfaces. This is a stallion I much admire but standing in australia his stud fee has to be added to a high shipping fee (there and back)so I have hesitated to use him.I’m delighted to get the chance to own one of his foals. His dam also looks promising for although she is created and unraced her 3 foals have either won or been placed.
[color=blue]Saxon Warrior (formerly Aladdin) $1,000 (Gimme a Shot x Northern Princess) I have none of this stallions progeny in my stable so $1,000 to obtain one is a bargain.
This lot and my own should keep me occupied the next couple of years
I couldn’t resist! I did a good job of thinning the herd last spring, so that’s how I justify it.
And even though I could have competed for the high priced ponies (for once!), I wound up going after ponies who got no other bids, to my surprise. I really thought there would be more competition to get them. To get pedigrees like this for only $1,000 apiece feels like a crime.
Here’s who we took home:
[color=blue]Intrepid, a weanling colt bred by Diamond Dale Farm. He is by NCh. Carrowmore, the lovely Irish River son, and out of Aint Afraid To Die, a Cross Roads daughter from a gold-rated mare, who hinted at her pedigree by earning two speed records (11 and 11.5f turf).
[color=red]That’s All Folks, a yearling filly by the young stallion, ICh. Take Me Away (by the famous Cigar). She is out of Ch. Catch Phrase, a What’s It Worth MSW who also earned a 5f speed record. I’m interested to see how Take Me Away does as a sire, since his oldest foals are 2YOs and will hopefully do better as they mature. I’m hoping that mom turns out to be a good mix with him.
[color=red]Spin The Bottle, another yearling filly, this time by NCh. The Fighting Fifty, whose offspring 3YO and up are pretty much all winners, if not stakes level. Personally, I like him, though I’ve never raced any of his offspring to date. But what made this filly extra appealing to me is her dam: Daretoloveme, by the amazing gold stallion, Secret of Love, out of a MSW, multi-millionaire mare. And like Intrepid’s dam, though she’s only a multi-winner, she also earned a speed record in 5f turf.
[color=red]Hyde Park is a weanling filly by silver rated GCh. Highland Laird and out of Ch. Central Park, a MSP Highland Bandit daughter. I’m hoping the double dose of Rogue does her lots of good, especially as it is more distant and through two lines of proven runners.
[color=blue]Las Vegas Strip is a weanling colt by Bellagio, who has already earned a silver rating with his first crop of 2YOs, which includes one of our best 2YO fillies, Coquette. Naturally, I am now drawn to his babies. But LVS also happens to be out of a multi-winning mare who has earned two speed records - over flat and hurdles - and has produced almost all winners (and a stakes winner). To me, that hints at talent, but I suppose only time will tell. I’m hoping that Bellagio will infuse some 2YO talent into the mix.
I am very, very happy with the results of this auction - and the incredibly minor $5,000 dent in my bank account.
Despite already buying 3 more ponies than we needed, we took another look at the auction. And
Picked up five for $1k each.
[color=red]Escort (Holy Bull (B) x Ch. Las Vegas) is the first out of her dam, who is a stakes winner and stakes placed. I didn’t have any foals from real life stallions until now.
formerly Unnamed
[color=blue]Hand Jive (NCh. The Fighting Fifty (B) x Dance Alone) caught my eye because he’s a foal out of one of the broodmares I bought this year. She’s a stakes placed create so may have producing potential, may not.
formerly Fight Alone
[color=blue]Jameson (NCh. Gimme A Shot (S) x Ch. Angel of Whimsy) is out of a stakes winner create. I was so shocked to find out that this name wasn’t taken!
formerly Unnamed
[color=blue]Midnight Stage (Tiznow (B) x Ch. Otta Be Jazz) is out of a mare with an impressive record: multi-stakes winner, multi-stakes placed, millionaire! I was surprised I didn’t have to fight anyone for this guy.
formerly Unnamed
[color=blue]Sain Et Sauf (NCh. Bellagio (S) x Ch. Hermoine (B)) is out of a mare who reached champion without any success in stakes. Unfortunately, none of her children have success in stakes yet either. Counting on them being late bloomers!
I didn’t rename this guy, and I’ll have to research what saint this is.
I have bought 30 horses this year!! I might have to cool it next year. The extra time in college vs. high school has made me go completely crazy. Luckily, I bought most of those 30 horses for the above indicated price, and some have proven an impressive investment!
I went back (never go back!) and a 5th followed me home.

Like I needed more, but couldn’t resist , came out with 4 more and one still pending. Lol total for these $13,500
[color=red]ISawMawKissinSanta a bay yrlg filly by rumor has it out of white Christmas $1k
[color=blue]BetYouWishYouHad a liver chest. Yrlg Colt by stressed out of bigbritches $1k
[color=blue]Secretly A Zombie a light bay yrlg colt by war chant out of deadly secrets my most expensiveirchase at $10,500 this boys dam has produced 10 runners of which 10 are winners,1SP, 1sw and with war chant thrown in I’m hoping he’s got it under the hood!
[color=red]Queens Icy Bird dark grey Weanling filly by joyeiux oiseu out of cold queen (name may change) I have none by this stud so thought I’d acquire one. $1k
Picked up four more, because why not.
[color=blue]Point Given (S) x [color=red]A Tip = [color=red]Tip Your Waitress
[color=blue]Simply Heroic (B) x [color=red]Didgamissme = [color=blue]Lone Ranger
[color=blue]Dixie Time x [color=red]Mezzo Soprano = [color=red]Whistling Dixie
[color=blue]Smart Strike (B) x [color=red]Open Bid = [color=blue]Smart Bid
Four more babies for under $15K. Not too shabby. Let’s hope they can back most of that.
Added one more for another $1k formerly (unnamed )Regal Delights,grey,wean, colt by nobly regal out of Kelly green just caught my eye so what the heck!
I picked up five more for a total of ten. This was a great opportunity to add numbers to our stable.
The last five we added were:
[color=red]Impressive Angel - yearling filly
Ch Mr Townsend (B) x Connoisseur (Who Says (B))
Who Says is a Silver ranked broodmare sire and Connoisseur wasn’t a terrible runner herself.
[color=red]Jetinwith Kennedy - yearling filly
Ch Mr Townsend (B) x Westside Story (West Wind (S))
Westside Story was also a decent runner with good longetivity. Her sire West Wind is another silver ranked broodmare sire. I’m not a fan of the name and will probably change it.
[color=red]Influential Secret - yearling filly
NCh Government Secret x Affluenza
Her dam is stakes placed, this is her first filly.
And since we had grabbed so many yearlings, I thought I could spare for some weanlings
[color=red]Unnamed - weanling filly
Oscillation (B) x Ch Kids Choice (create)
First foal from her SW MSP dam.
[color=red]Unnamed - weanling filly
NCh Nobly Regal x Say Goodnight (b) (create)
Half to three winners and a SW MSP filly.
Tons of fun. We got 8 yearlings (6 fillies 2 colts) and 2 weanling fillies for 21,500. Building up the future broodmare band
You’ll need to rename her, as there’s a Whistlin’ Dixie in the game already.
Well, we didn’t need anymore ponies but we got another 5 for $1000 a piece. Only one yearling though so we’re mostly playing a waiting game with these.
[color=red]Ooh La La Sneak Peek (B) x Kelly’s Classic (I’m A Classic) caught my attention as I really like Sneak Peek even though he’s not the greatest stallion. Dam is MW, MP and has one foal prior to this one. Hoping she’ll be consistent at allowance level.
[color=blue]The Great Pumpkin Boldness Shows (B) x Country Pumpkin (B) is our only yearling. We’ve had some success with our only Boldness Shows runner to date and the name’s amusing if nothing else. Dam has six foals but only two have raced, both are winners
[color=blue]Brave Highlander Boldness Shows (B) x It’s An Honour (Highland Pride) is a first foal for a W, MP dam. Although she only won a single race she was consistently OTB.
[color=red]Silver Sixpence The Fighting Fifty (B) x Silver Story (B) (Silver Legend). Dam has 5 runners, all are winners. She’s unplaced in one start herself but is a half-sister to the gold ranked dams of GCh Blue Emperess and GCh Quarren.
[color=red]State Secret Government Secret x Act of Faith (Affirmed) 1st foal for MW, MP dam. Sire is retired but has done well with quite small crops.
Glad you got her! I hope she does well for you.
And we added another five babies to our stable for $1k each again, bring total horses purchased in 2016 to 35. I was pretty strict with only buying little ones for $1k so that I wouldn’t overspend.
[color=blue]Pentagram (Octagonal (B) x Ch. Just One Thing (B)) is out of a stakes placed mare. I was also still aiming for real life studs to increase variety around my stable.
formerly Gee Me Look Awsome
[color=red]Fission (NCh. Government Secret (B) x Impact On Tigers) is out of a monster 17.3h mare. This should be a tall one when she grows up.
formerly Lady Tigress
[color=red]Ascension (NCh. Black Warrior x Meant To Be (B)) has nothing necessarily remarkable about her, but I was drawn to her because I do not have any Black Warrior babies and I really needed more girls.
formerly Futuristic
[color=red]Vacancy (NCh. Void (B) x Dixie Festival (B)) is out of a mare who might have had a better racing career if she had started running sooner. I was really interested in a baby by Void too.
formerly Unnamed
[color=blue]Epilogue (ICh. Stressed (B) x At World’s End) is not out of a remarkable mare either, but I wanted someone by Stressed.
I didn’t rename this guy because his name is already my style.
Well, 1k is just so cheap for these pretty little babies so we got a couple, too.
[color=red]Devil’s Star (ICh. Devil His Due X February Star)
Cute little Devil weanling. Thought I’d give her a fair start on the track.
[color=blue]Go Getter (GCh. Harvard Bound (B) X Click On Go(B))
Not the most impressive breeding but mom has produced 2 winners so far. He’s a 15.2H liver chestnut yearling that just caught our eye.
It’s fun to pick them up at the end and see if they end up being superstars.
