It is with great sadness that The Grey Stable has to announce the retirement of Hope To Succeed (Silver) from the ranks of breeding stallion. Though only 13 years young it was found in routine checks that he had abnormal swelling in his testicles. Further results showed that the condition was treatable but would render him unable to produce sperm as a result.
Hope To Succeed raced at 2,3 and 4 and made quite a name for himself. He was lightly raced at 2 but exploded at 3. As a 3 year old he won The Kentucky Derby, The Belmont Stakes and The Ridgeview Hdcp. and finished 2nd in the Preakness. At 4 he continued his dirt track exploits only to be switched to Steeplechase. His first four races were stakes races and he won the Platinum Stakes and the Sadler’s Wells Hdcp along with a respectable 3rd and 4th in the other two. In his final race before retiring to stud he finished 2nd in the Breeders Cup SC race to Highland Wizard.
He has 8 crops on the ground and and the largest crop of his career (27) waiting to be born in 2014.
This happening has thrown The Grey Stable for a loop as far as it’s breeding operation is concerned. Hope To Succeed would have been in line to have as many mares bred to him this year as last and with an abundance of mares coming into the barn as broodmares we have to many mares for the stallions we have. (Highland Magic and Spock). If The Grey Stable were to breed all it’s mares to it’s own stallions we would have no spots left open for outside mare and that does not make monetary sense. If you have a Grey or Roan stallion that you are willing to either lease or sell (I would prefer to buy)for the upcoming breeding season you have a chance to extract a large amount of cash from The Grey Stable for your stallion. Just send me a P.M. to get the ball rolling. I will also be contacting stables that have these stallions as well to gauge interest in selling.
Thanks to all who have bred to Hope To Succeed in the past and best of luck with his final crop from 2014.
Myles
