I have a question on genetics, I have now for 2 yrs in a row bred 2 dif mares to one stud to have the foal die both yrs. is there something in the studs DNA or is it a fluke?
I believe the babies bred to the same stallion both dying is just bad luck. (E.g., there’s no genetic component.)
On the flipside, your stable does make lots of healthy babies!
One yr I had just 12 mares and lost 4 foals, it’s improved since then!
I have a hard time parting with them, lol, I have 4 for sale in foal now I have 61 mares! Lol and more to retire in jan.
I think it’s just bad luck. I lost one this year, bred the mare back to the same stud and the beta site initially showed up that the foal will be stillborn again The first two seasons I bred mares, I bred two each year and had one live foal and one stillborn both years. Lost two this year and beta sight showed that I’ll lose two next year as well, with another four mares covered after the bug was fixed so might be more.
I wonderd about that too, if it’s correct , looks like I’ll lose a couple next yr too.
Each breeding has a chance of stillborn foal, dead mare, and twins, regardless of genetics. I may tweak it a bit to include a genetic component in the rewrite.
