Financial Advice

I got called by someone wanting my bank account information (supposedly to “verify” my identity so that I could qualify for a prize of a shopping spree and Hawaiian vacation), which prompted me to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission as well as my bank.

I also checked out my credit report, which each credit agency (Equifax, Experian, and Transunion) are required to give me each year via the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

If you have not done so, I recommend everyone go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and request your free credit report. If you only select 1 agency, you can basically get 1 free report every 4 months by using a different agency each time.

Anyway, just my random financial advice for the day. Oh, and if someone claims you’ve won a shopping spree and free vacation, take it with a grain of salt.

Shanthi, my dear, you’ve won an all expensed paid trip to Providence, RI, sunny place that it is, home of um…stuff. All I need is your credit card number to make this trip of your dreams possible.

In addition, because you’ll be crossing state lines, we need to verify that you are you. So, please mail an original copy of your birth certificate and passport. We need time to verify your identity. And get to the Caymans.

Oh, and no need to order one of those pesky credit reports. It’s all expense paid, you know?

Thanks for your business!
