Looks like itā€™s down again. I just went on to do my entries for Saturday and canā€™t get on.

Is it just me or is anybody else having this problem?

Iā€™m not so concerned about whether it comes back today as I can always access my results at any time, but hope that it will be back up by tomorrow in time to enter my horses for Saturdays races. Itā€™s a little frustrating to spend time planning what horses Iā€™m going to enter in races only to have the system being down on the day to actually enter them.

Is scheduling entries an option for you? That might mean you at least get some entries in if the site is down a day or two before race entries close.

I do try to do Future Entries when I can, however, recently I havenā€™t had much chance to work out entries far enough in advance to be able to Future Entry them.

Iā€™m hoping that RL has quietened down enough so that I can plan entries far enough in advance to be able to Future Enter them.

I try and schedule mine when I get a chance so it overcomes stuff like this and Iā€™ve only got to find a few Iā€™d missed for some races.

I would love in the future to be able to program / schedule out to 2 months. I hate having to make notes for myself to remember which horse Iā€™d planned for which race :joy:

If I remember correctly, I think the problem is something to do with the server that weā€™re using.

I really feel it for Shanthi. She has so much going on in her life right now and canā€™t spend as much time as she used to on this. Iā€™m sure that she must be at least as frustrated about what is going on as we all are. I wish that I could do something to help her but I donā€™t know much about the actual coding that is used for Final Furlong or about servers.

Agreed. I think weā€™re lucky Shanthi is still letting this game run, given all her RL obligations and the task that is running this game and all its code. While of course Iā€™d prefer a game to always be up and running smoothly 24/7, I appreciate still being able to play this game for 15+ years. I also wish there was something more I could do rather than email Shanthi on occasion to report bad news (site being down, races stuck, etc.).

Echoing Starfish and Shelbie! In the spirit of Thanksgiving for us Americans, Iā€™m very grateful to Shanthi for continuing this game! Itā€™s one of the last horse games I still play and really enjoy. I wish there was something I could do other than email her to let her know about the site being down. Itā€™s never good news hahaha. This game is one of the few escapes from the real world that I enjoy immensely, and I hope it continues for years to come!

I email her when I notice the game is down, and about a month ago she said something is running the server out of memory.

Iā€™m also glad the game is still going and unfortunately I also have zero coding/server skills to help.

I do hope the game can keep going if Shanthiā€™s really life commitments allow her the time and energy to manage it.

If we are having a problem with memory on the server (probably because weā€™ve got so many more horses rhan a few years ago), i would be interested in finding out how much it would cost to buy more memory. Depending on how much it would cost, also how difficult it would be to increase the memory, I might be willing to pay for it.

Shanthi - I know how busy you are with RL issues and I donā€™t like bothering you with FF stuff, but, if you see this post, you can email me and let me know what, if anything, I can do.

The amount of time Iā€™ve spent on this game is probably greater than any paid game I own. It gives me a lot of joy and Iā€™m very thankful for the vast amount of nerding out we get to do over our pixel ponies and their lineages and races!

I fully understand it comes with its hiccups due to time constraints. Iā€™m no coder, but if there parts of it that are easier to learn and maintain Iā€™d also be willing to educate myself and lend a hand in the easier tasks of running the game.
