In a stunning strech drive the 3 yo filly Rags to Riches and Curlin battled neck & neck down the strech! Curlin leading all the way, but at the wire it was Rags To Riches poking her nose over the line first!! What an exciting race to watch… Rags To Riches had a bad start stumbling almost to her knees out of the gate… but fought her way though the field of 7 to match Curlin at the top of the strech… the third place horse Tiago was 5 1/2 lengths behind the front runners and Hard Spun was another 5 1/2 lengths back for 4th…
Rags To Riches is only the third Filly to ever win the Belmont Stakes, the last being Tanya in 1905… and the only filly to win at the current 1 1/2 miles…
What an amazing Filly… I’m betting we’ll see her at the Breeders’ Cup… but the question is will they put her in the Distaff or give her a shot at the Classic? Time will tell!!
As much as I’d love to see her in the classic I don’t think she could win against older males. Still an amazing filly and I really hope she races as four year old
I dunno, I’d imagine Curlin and Street Sense will go up against Invasor and Discreet Cat in the Classic (assuming they run Discreet Cat) and I imagine everyone’d be giving them a fairly decent chance. Clearly Rags to Riches is in the same class and talent realm as the 2 best 3yo colts. I wouldn’t count her out in the Classic if she went. That said, I don’t think the owners are likely to send her there. Apparently the best chance for a match up between everyone again would be the Haskell? Think Street Sense and Curlin are both pointed there…
That was a great race and she had Curlin pretty much at the top of the stretch. I do hope they do not bother to run Discreet Cat, since I think he is overrated in name only. As for the rest, just the idea of the threesome matching up is a sick prospect that Monmouth Park has to be drooling over.
I don’t know, I’d LOVE to see a match up with Rags To Riches, Street Sense, Curlin and Discreet Cat…might settle once and for all who’s the MOST awesome! I think we have a great group this year and would be a pity if they don’t all get to meet.
