FF's Famous Studs in 2018

Unless anything changes between now and January, it looks like all of FF’s current famous studs will stand again (in real life) in 2014.

Currently we have 16:
Candy Ride
Deep Impact
Empire Maker
Frankel
Ghostzapper
Giant’s Causeway
Invasor
Monarchos
Point Given
Rock of Gibraltar
Sea the Stars
Silver Charm
Smart Strike
Sun King
Tiznow
War Chant

Of those, though, 3 stallions were quite underused this year.
Tiznow got 2 outside mares
War Chant got 5 outside mares
Smart Strike got 0 (!) outside mares

I’d like to stay around 15 famous stallions, so I would suggest that these 3 stallions go into the voting for stallions to “add” to the game (with a limit of 2 studs so we stay at 15). If people want to keep them in, great, if people would rather see new studs introduced to the game, some/all of these 3 studs could be retired.

Thoughts?

Also, feel free to plug any stallions that you want to be considered for adding to the game. Requirements:

  • Must be aged 12 or younger - 2002 as the oldest year of birth (we’d like to keep them around for some time)
  • Must be a “standout” candidate for some reason - multiple Gr 1 wins, unique bloodlines, etc (must be a stakes winner of some sort in real life)
  • Must not duplicate existing game bloodlines too much (e.g. no sons of famous studs already in the game, etc)

Animal Kingdom

Please provide more info - people may recognise the name but not his accomplishments (like me). As I said above, plug/pitch your choice - if you truly want a horse in the game you should be able to sell him as a candidate.

Potentially Al Kazeem? He does have some Mr P blood in there though.

He is a son of Dubawi (Dubawi himself might be a nice option) and is due to retire to stud at the end of the year.

Breeder: Mr. & Mrs. Daniel J. Deer
  Winnings: 14 Starts: 7 - 5 - 1,

Yay! About the current real-life stallions: I have some of Tiznow, War Chant and Smart Strike offspring and I’m not planning to get more, so for me, they could be retired. The others - I like and will use maybe half of them.
So here is what I had in my notes (the name in bold links to a pedigreequery page):

Musketier
born: 2002, grey
racing career: 50 (!) starts, Grade 1 win: Man o’ War S. (at 7), and lots of other graded stakes wins, he was a graded winner from age 2 to 10. Entered stud last year.
pedigree: by Acatenango (GER), out of Myth And Reality (GB) by Linamix (FR). No Northern Dancer or Mr. Prospector! He has 5x3 inbreeding to Caro (IRE) in his damline.
Article about him: “Musketier To Adena Springs Canada” (with a photo and a video of one of his wins).

Giacomo
born: 2002, grey
racing career: 16 starts, earned $2,537,316, won Kentucky Derby, 2nd in Hollywood Futurity, 3rd in Preakness Stakes, and other graded wins/placings.
pedigree: he’s by Holy Bull, so kind of related to the game stallion… but, he has no inbreeding in five generations, no Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector, and his dam Set Them Free (USA) produced another multiple stakes winner, Tiago. Some photos and more info: Giacomo.

Skipshot
born: 2007, chestnut (liver chestnut?)
racing career: less interesting than his pedigree, but he had graded wins/placings in 21 starts.
pedigree: he’s another outcross. By Skip Away (USA), a Hall Of Fame horse which earned $9,616,360 in 38 starts, out of Heavenly Note (USA) by Sunny’s Halo (CAN) - winner of $1,247,791 in 20 starts, including Kentucky Derby. Skipshot is 5x5 inbred to Princequillo, leading sire/broodmare sire in North America, Britain and Ireland. More info: Skipshot.

About this one I’m not sure if he’s entering stud… but maybe in the future?

Cavalryman
born: 2006, dark bay (looks black!)
racing career: 33 starts, $2,436,212.14 in earnings, won Dubai City of Gold twice, won Dubai Gold Cup, and many stakes races around the world. Images and info on Godolphin website: Cavalryman.
pedigree: by Halling (USA), out of Silversword (FR) by Highest Honor (FR). He has Native Dancer and Northern Dancer in 5th generation, but no inbreeding.

I don’t know if these stallions can be considered famous, but definetely interesting. Especially Musketier - really unusual nowadays!

As I said above, no sons of existing studs. If people wanted Giacamo in the game, Holy Bull would have to retire. (Which seems a bit of a shame as he’s only been in the game a few years.

Isn’t he already retired? Together with Octagonal.

Yeah, sorry - was thinking about Silver Charm.

How about Redoute’s Choice as an Austalian stallion?  He’s the best stallion in Australia

lines to Danehill (a Danzig son), Canny Lad, and Nijinsky II

Oh and maybe one of these boys for steeplechasing blood:

Scorpion & Getaway might be good candidates.  I don’t think I’ve seen Montjeu or Monsun sons in FF.

Redoute’s Choice wouldn’t meet the criteria as he was born in '96. Scorpion’s a grandson of Sadler’s Wells - there’s at least two of his son’s at stud already plus one stud qualified son still racing and his grandson, Frankel, already in the game. My personal feeling would be that’s enough although I did see Scorpion in his racing days, very nice looking horse.

So… are we not adding/retiring famous studs for the next year?

The voting on number of famous studs to keep ended up at 6-10, so if we want to add some studs we’ll have to remove some.

If people want, we can take the 13 famous studs (ignoring Tiznow/Smart Strike/War Chant), plus the suggestions in this thread, and come up with 10 to keep. Otherwise we’ll need to pick 3 to lose from the existing list and not add any new ones.

Personally I think I’d rather choose from the existing ones than add any new ones for the time being.

I’d like that! From my suggestions, I would be really curious how Musketier would do in the game - I would choose him to breed for soundness. Also, we don’t have any sons of his sire Acatenango, on which they write good things at reines-de-course website:

"We could write a book about his sire Surumu, but suffice to say he offered Acatenango a double of the grand miler Indus (French 2000 Guineas, Grand Criterium, Criterium De Maisons-Laffitte) and an extra Phalaris line. "
