FF Paper

Why does it not run anymore??
I could really get good with the world of racing here. Horses to watch out for injuires that happen!! Stallions at stud…horses retired or passed in FF! Lots to write every week! ???

The person who was writing the paper is no longer with FF… I did write one stallion article for the paper… and I know there were some Stakes races that were handicapped before the races… it would be interesting to see someone take up the gauntlet and re-establish the paper…

I use to handicap and write race anaylasis for the stakes races. I keep meaning to get back to doing it. lol

What the paper needs is an editor, and steady contributions. It’s a big job, really, to contribute steadily week in an week out, and as an editor to review articles. People seem to start out fine but after a while just fade away for one reason or another. There’s any number of topics to write about stakes race previews and reviews, breeding, racing, auction stats/reviews, farm/stable.reviews. Another way to do it would be to have an editor to review submissions from anyone that would like to write an article. Just throwing ideas out there

It could be setup loosely like the color war is…a “team” of editors who’re able to review any article submitted.  Then a listing of various newspaper “sections”.

So, if you wanted to write an article, you’d look it up and see that the sections for Breeding, Auctions, and Sales have no articles, so you could write for any of those.  Once you did, it’d get sent off to the editing team for review.  Once it was approved, it’d get added to that “edition” of the paper.

Obviously each section could have more than one article, but it’s always nice if each section has at least one.

Once there are enough articles submitted, the editors could each flag the newspaper (or their section of it, if that’s how their duties were divided) as “done”, and once all editors agreed, the edition would be complete/published.

With that system, no one would have to commit to writing, say, 50 articles about racing each year.

That would be great if the paper started again! I think it can teach newer players like myself a lot about current events, breeding, racing, etc! so does the editor “edit” the paper as in look for grammar mistakes spelling mistakes etc? or would it just pick through the articles to choose the one that would be in the paper??

It’s funny that you should mention this, as I was thinking about the old paper recently myself. The old “editor” was having me do art for the paper, and I had done a few drawings for the “FF Horse of the Week Spotlight” before she ended up poofing…

In any case, I think this idea is lovely, and I’d LOVE to be part of it… I’m a senior in high school right now though, so I’d probably be too slow with some things… I’d love to do something though. It’s too bad I can’t be more certain of the time I will have to get on here. Maybe once June is over and I’m graduated… Unless college ends up taking all my time instead (haha can’t win!). Ah well. If anyone decides to start this up again, I’d love to offer my “services” :stuck_out_tongue: I can do some graphics with photoshop and I can do some art… I can write too, and I think it’d be fun to have little interviews with horse owners… ;D It’d be quite fun, actually. Ehehe. Ah well. Someday, mayhaps?

I would love to be involved! I login constantly!

I’d be interested in doing the stake race previews and later stake race anaylasis again. I just have to dig up the old template, or make a new one.

I’d love to be an editor… I also started an atricle spotlighting the Eclips Award winners… I’m planning on adding owner interviews… this would be a great start for the first edition…

I think it would be awesome to give this a try (And I’m just crazy curious to see what everyone could do with it!).

Anyone else wanna go for it? Seriously–there’s no real pressure here. There’d be SOME pressure maybe if we did it like a “real” paper, with a deadline and all of that, but I think that would be fairly minor in comparison with how much FUN it would be.

I would love to write too!! I write for my schools paper and love to write and especially interview! the only problem is when it comes to summer time i get busy with horse shows where there is no internet for up to a month at a time :frowning:    so I don’t know if I could participate but I would def love to read it if  I couldn’t write!

I think the best thing would be to organize it loosely with no set deadline, just as each section gets an article its complete and all the editors can decide whether they will wait until all sections get an article or “publish” the paper without certain sections. I think this format for the paper might work b/c ppl can write up articles at their leisure. I would love to contribute(won’t happen for at least a few weeks) and be an editor(which I can do on a regular basis).

Well, I have the template set up for the stakes race program. If it’s okay with Shanthi I can start posting them again, starting with the races of 2/16. If someone else is interested in handicapping with me we could split the wednesday/saturday races, like Equestriana and I did previously.

I don’t think you need to wait for a complete paper to be done as Jade suggested. I would suggest as an article is completed and approved it is published. I’ve observed this at work in another site’s paper, and it seems to work well.

And It could also serve as like a running newbie guide/faq, etc. It would be handy.

you mean faq?

:astonished: :astonished: oh yes! I fixed it!!  :-\ Wow I really should proof read better!! That could have been BAD!! ::)  Thanks Zurg.

No prob!! ;D

This would, in my opinion, be a good idea if the paper ever got started up again. I’ve played on other sites where they had a paper, but they never even updated a section. Also, I think that if there’s more than one editor, if someone has a hard time getting on someone else can keep it running. That way it would be easier for those with less time to have a part in it. Just some thoughts I had.
