2007 chestnut Thoroughbred stallion, 15.0hh
A.P. Indy x Gold Rush – Mr. Prospector
[view]

This is going to be especially fun and chalk-full of information, as this is the first member-owned, game-bred, and proven stallion we’ve highlighted so far!

CAREER
Bred by Edgewood Stud, Golden Text exchanged hands a number of times before being purchased February 2021 by current owner Generous Bloodstock. He made 65 starts, 51 in stakes, and won 8 races including the G1 Beach Shore Stakes, G1 Nunthorpe Stakes, G2 Silver Slipper Stakes, G2 Winterbottom Stakes, G3 Norfolk Stakes, G3 Aristides Stakes, and the G3 Star Kingdom stakes. He set one speed record at 5.5f turf, and all his career wins were going under a mile. Despite the one speed record, Golden Text’s majority earnings were on the dirt ($862,800).

His best years on the track were at 2 and 5. During his career he beat stallions Devil His Due, All Jazzed Up, Black Light II, Robin Hood, and Player.

INJURY HISTORY
In five years of racing he suffered a single cut at three.

LINEAGE
His sire, A.P. INDY, had 323 foals, 70 stakes winners and 37 MSW’s with a staggering 20 millionaires. These millionaires include GCH. AP. Valentino, GCh. A.P. Fantasy, GCh. Indy 500, NCh. Barchetta, GCh. Highland Surprise, NCh. Spinning Hill, GCh. A.P. Executive, GCh. Indy’s Drifter, GCh. Mocktail, GCh. Majestic, NCh. Aptitude, GCh. Accelorator, Ch. Navy Seal, Ch. Black Type, and many more. He has 4 gold-ranked daughters, 11 silver, and 16 bronze. He is the sire of game-bred stallions NCh. Aptitude, NCh. Golden Text (sire of stallion ICh. Calle de Oro), and the damsire of stallion WCh. Sponsored.

His dam GOLD RUSH produced 13 foals, 10 winners, and 4 stakes winners. In additional to her sole MSW, Golden Text, she produced SW’s Ch. She Whispers, Ch. Rush Home, Ch. American Rocket, and SP Ch. Westward Ho. Through her daughters she is the granddam of MSW’s ICh. Saucy Magician, GCh. Kinda Flighty, GCh. Cheeky Monkey, Ch. Mae West, Ch. Cheeky Magic, Ch. Golden Oak, and Ch. Scattered Mercury. She is by Mr. Prospector, a silver-ranked broodmare sire.

The combination of A.P. Indy/Mr. Prospector has also produced GCh. Yemen, Ch. A.P. Gold, and Ch. A.P. Prospect. Flipped, the Mr. Prospector/A.P. Indy cross has produced Ch. Digging for Love.

SIRE RECORD
At the time of this post, he is Silver-ranked (6.3). Golden Text has sired 8 crops with 39% starters, 61% winners, 18% stakes winners and 10% multiple stakes winners. He produced a stallion in his first crop with ICh. Calle de Oro.

Out of 59 current stallions w/ started offspring:

 • 28th in highest winning percentage of offspring
 • 4th in offspring earnings
 • 7th in highest G1-placed offspring
 • 5th in G1-winning offspring

Foals for Thought
Looking at 10 random multi-winners, including the above five MSW’s, 4 had their best career year at age 2 (40%), 5 at age 3 (50%), and 1 at age 4 or older (10%). His foals seem to run on both dirt and turf with an affinity for sprints and classic distances.

Currently he has produced MSW’s out of mares by Fleet Street, Satin Romance, Highland Wizard, Omaha (twice), Planet Hollywood, What’s Debatable, Crimson Lad, Dixieland Jazz, and creates. His dam’s half-sister, Kinda Sassy, is platinum-ranked with 3 MSW’s from 6 runners—MSW’s by Magic Glory (see sons Hogwarts, Glorious Victory, Ancient Magic), Major’s Flight (see son AndLikeThatHesGone), and Black Warrior (see son Holy Warrior).

Golden Text currently stands in England at Generous Bloodstock for $7,500

He is not BC nominated and he not does require approval to breed to.
Please share your own foals and successful crosses below.

I don’t have any from the A.P. Indy/Mr. Prospector cross (of either combo), but I have an exciting 3yo in Spinning Wheel who is currently aimed at the G2 San Vincente Stakes following a big turf allowance win.

I don’t have any from that line either, but I’m definitely putting it down in my notes to try that! I have a 4yo mare by Golden Text, Label Maker, I claimed her last year because I loved her name. She was fairly consistent last year, and mom didn’t get a SP until 5 so maybe she’s a late bloomer. Grand-dam is Gold ranked so I hope she ends up being a nice producer.

I also have a broodmare by Golden Text, she’s in foal to Naval Commander.

I only have GCh. Yeman (the A.P. Indy/Mr. Prospector cross); bought her from Lochiedo Stables as a broodmare prospect. She was bred and raced by them.

Thanks for the lovely write up. Text is the smallest Stud in the barn but definitely has the biggest personality! Carole at Iron Spur has been quite inactive due to real life commitments (which is how we managed to acquire GT last year). As a result, he still has a lot of unraced foals in his 2018 & 2019 crops and I would imagine, unless things change and Carole has some more time for the game, his 2020 & 2021 crops might go a similar way unfortunately.

He still has a June slot and August slots available for this year, otherwise he’s fully booked for 2022.

Slight delay to the 2nd February spotlight. RL got crazy for both Will and I these last few weeks, but I will try and get something posted over the weekend.

I’m so glad everyone has been enjoying these!
