Feature: Forum/Site Login

I think I’ve sorted out the login issue from yesterday, and now your forum login should control your site login. That is, if you’re logged in to the forum you’re logged in to the site, and if you’re not, the site will send you to the forum to login.

This appears to be working, but do note that if the site does send you to the forum to login and the forum doesn’t immediately send you back to the site, you might get a 500 page when you go to the site (either typing the URL in by hand or using the forum’s Stable link in the top menu). Refreshing the page should sort this.

I’ve only encountered that scenario since I switched my forum login to using a passkey, so I’ll keep digging around the forum settings to see if the redirect can still happen with a passkey.

Give a shout if anything looks weird, but hopefully this means one less username/password to remember. :tada:

I’ve tried logging in and it just says you cannot perform this action.

I’ve refreshed and it’s the same. :woman_shrugging:

Try now - I’ve swapped it from matching by email to matching by username, which should be more reliable.

@willagrey This is happening to me on my phone (haven’t tested laptop). After getting this screen, I click Login on the new site, and it pushes me through.

I’ve updated the logic so you shouldn’t see the login form anymore (other than the forum login, if you’re not logged in here).

Seems to be working fine now!

I can’t log in to the main site now. I’m logged in to the forum but just getting internal server error on trying to login to the main site.

Same here.

See if it works now (I can’t replicate the issue, even when trying to login as you folks).

Working for me now. I had to login manually first time but seems to be loading my stable straight from the forum now. Thank you.

I still can’t login. My screen looks like this, and the login button doesn’t do anything.

Have you tried clearing the saved data for the site (cookies/etc)?

That worked. Thank you!

Depends on what device/browser you’re using.

You want to look for a little icon next to the “prod.finalfurlong.org” - here it’s a shield could be another shape in a different browser

Then you want to look for something mentioning Cookies and/or Site Data - here I’ve clicked on “Manage On-Screen Site Data”

That leads me to a popup with all the data for this site (prod.finalfurlong.org is the new app, finalfurlong.org is the old one). In this case I would click the trash can icon next to prod.finalfurlong.org)

If your flow doesn’t look like that, I’ll investigate more in the morning.

Thanks, all good. I have it all sorted.

Clearing the cookies worked for me :ok_hand:

Although I seem to have gone very soft pastel

That is what mine looks like. I’m assuming you are referring to the color scheme? You should be able to change it if you go to settings, website, and then select either dark or light mode and a color theme.

I tried to clean the cookies but still get 500 - Internal Server Error.

Yeah, clearing your cookies will have reset your site preferences, so you’ll need to go back to that page and re-save them to re-create the browser cookies. (I need to look into that, because when you login it should pull from the database and store in the browser.)

I don’t see any details in my error logs, so I’m not sure what’s happening.

Does it work with a different browser? What browser/device are you on?
