i’ll post my reasons why later,haha.
My all time favorite race horse is without a doubt Man O’ War. A legend and amazing sire. Plus his owner mainly bred him to his own mares so he wasn’t necessarily bred to his potential. He still managed to sire A Triple Crown winner, two Kentucky Derby winners, three Belmont winners, and to top it all off a Grand National steeplechase winner too. Oh and grandsire of Seabiscuit. Just amazing in my opinion.
In real life I would have to say Thunder Gulch because he sired Point Given who is one of my favorite horses alive. Plus he sired Spain who is a great mare. And it looks like Point Given might turn out to be a nice sire too with a little more time.
And just as far as more recent heavy influence Native Dancer and Mr. Prospector seem to be in everyones pedigree. lol
I’m also a fan of Tiznow not because he’s a super great sire at the moment, but because he was such a gritty racer, beautiful horse and his sire stands not far from where I live. (And I’m not exactly in a racing area lol)
I’m procrastinating so here’s to bumping up an old thread.
Man o’ War is my first love. I read Walter Farley’s partial fictional biography of him and I just fell in love. After him is Tiznow, several times grand son of the first and only Big Red. 2008 is winding down and he is the only stallion in the Top Five on the Sire List to stand for a now ridiculous $30K. He’s tied with a few other stallions with 4 Grade I winners - Colonel John, Da’Tara, Tough Tiz’s Sis, Well Armed - and for the few foals he has running his percentage is pretty remarkable. Here’s to hoping all his get do awesome in the Breeders’ Cup and knock off Giant’s Causeway for #2 behind Smart Strike (who’s only #1 because of the $10B Man Curlin).
As for the game…well, I wasn’t going to let go of a Man o’ War yearling that was offered earlier this week. She’s mine, now, and with her blood she’ll at least prove a useful broodmare. I’d also like to get a foal from FF Tiznow. Everybody else can come later.
