Final Furlong’s The Grand National is coming!!!
Time to dust off your steeplechasers and get ready for Final Furlong’s Grand National!
The Grand National continues to be the most mysterious race in the game. This time, the winner is bred and owned by Final Furlong! Massive Title (Final Furlong) is a 5yo stallion by NCh. Mr. Prospective, out of unraced Ready for Launch. Before The Grand National, Massive Title ran only once, as a 3yo, in a steeplechase claimer. He finished last.
Alleged Devil (bred and owned by Krajina) lost by a nose, beating Tabby Cat (bred by Generous Bloodstock, owned by Krajina) who finished 3rd.
Cheltenham Gold Cup in England is next!
GCh. Vague Writer (Littlefield) wins Cheltenham Gold Cup by 2 3/4 lengths. Looks like he needs just one stakes win to become stud qualified! He would be the first son of his sire, GCh. Starzen, to qualify for stud.
Irish Grand National is coming…
Ch. BoughtandPaidFor (Cricket Hill) won Irish Grand National. It was his first stakes win and he’s 5 years old; he did run in stakes as a 3yo and 4yo but only managed to finish 3rd. Interestingly, his dam NCh. Buy an Angel also started winning stakes as a 5yo.
Next big steeplechase is King George VI Chase in England, at the end of the month.
6yo Ch. Fifteen Birds (Gintara Lodge) won the King George VI Chase. It is his first Grade 1 win.
Joe Aitcheson at Arlington is next.
Also, the 2019 Velká Pardubická - the longest and toughest steeplechase in Czech Republic, will be on 13th October this year.
Ch. All The World (Krajina) wins the Joe Aitcheson. His 5yo season is the first time that he runs at stakes level. Vosburgh Stakes in Belmont is next for steeplechasers, entries are open and there are seven horses already! Including Ch. Fool For Flowers, my 4yo mare. She never won a stakes race, but she finished 2nd in Gr. 2 Highland Pride Stakes earlier this year.
GCh. Fifteen Birds (Gintara Lodge), the 6yo King George VI Chase winner, wins Vosburgh Stakes. Meadow Brook Stakes in Aqueduct is next, and in real life Velká Pardubická is coming, in less than three weeks!
Velka Pardubicka is today! And there is a live streaming:
From Wikipedia:
"Velká pardubická is a famous cross-country steeplechase run in Pardubice,Czech Republic since 1874. It takes place every year on the second Sunday in October.
The length of the steeplechase is 6.9 km (4 miles 506 yards), with 31 obstacles. It usually takes 9–10 minutes to finish the course; the record is 8:56.01 set by Ribelino in 2015.
Horses starting in the race must be at least six years old (prior to 2009, the minimum age was seven years); Czech horses must qualify by finishing at least one of four qualifying races during the season."
The most famous obstacle is Taxis ditch - the fourth. It’s the Czech Becher’s Brook and horses jump it only once. They are not permitted to use it for training.
And the winner is 9yo French gelding Theophilos, trained by legendary jockey Josef Váňa. Theophilos is the 11th winner of Velká Pardubická for his trainer, who also won this race eight times as a jockey.
Meadow Brook Stakes at Aqueduct is this Wednesday.
6yo Denobulan (Krajina) wins the crowded Meadow Brook Stakes. It’s his first stakes win. Townsend Prince breeders’ Stakes at Aqueduct is coming next, in the middle of December.
