Exhausted horse?

Hey Shanthi,

I’m sure this is just me being stupid.  However, I’m not sure what’s going on with Bullfrog (ID# 6467).  His last race was two weeks ago, on 2/14.  He came in dead last in his maiden, but I know he had at least a C energy when I sent him to the post.  Since then, I haven’t worked him and I haven’t shipped him anywhere (it’s been two weeks), and he’s still got an energy level of F.  He may just be slow to recover, but I would’ve thought that he might have shown at least some improvement as it’s been two weeks.  Daddys Pride has also been slower to recover than normal.  It their age, as Bullfrog is 4 and Daddys Pride is 5.  However, Daddys Pride just managed to come in 2nd with an SF of 87, so I’m not inclined to believe she’s over the hill yet.

Is it possible that he’s just so deep into negative energy that he’s going to need several months off?  Or should he have recovered at least a little bit(show readings of a D or a C) by now?  Should I just ship him home?  Does age lengthen the recovery time?

I’ve just never seen a horse behave like this.

Energy loss/fitness gain in workouts is modified based on the horse’s maturity status (immature/hasbeen horses lose more energy/gain less fitness).

In races, energy loss is modified by the amount of lead weight a horse is carrying (harder to carry than “live” jockey weight).  Other than that, it just depends on how hard the horse works in the race, which varies by race.

Bullfrog is regaining energy, he’s just still in the F range.

All right.  Good to know.  I figured it was something along those lines…but both horses had had quick turn around times, so I was pretty surprised.

I guess I should start looking for fat jockeys, then?

Lead weight doesn’t add a ton to the level of energy loss, , but it does add some.
