Derby Trail 2010

Sooo it’s that time of year again! Who does everyone like for the Derby?

I’ll be honest, I haven’t really been paying attention to the contenders, but I did glance briefly at bloodhorse and my current favorite is a Pletcher colt named Connemara, by Giants Causeway. I don’t think he’s highly regarded but he did just win the G3 El Camino Real Derby so he’ll probably get a bit more attention. I’m pretty much rooting for him because of his name, and well his connection too lol There’s also apparently an undefeated CA gelding named Caracortado (means Scarface) whose getting some attention. Maybe a good long shot?

So who does everyone have their eye on?

I really like Rule. He won the Sam F. Davis last week and looked impressive in doing so. His sire is Roman Ruler and his dam is by Personal Flag and is also a half to Funny Cide, so I don’t see him really having a problem getting the distance. Jackson Bend and Connemara are also really nice. They all have good Triple Crown names.

I love Caracortado and Rule i think they will be 1 2 in the Derby

I’ve loved Lookin At Lucky since he broke his maiden. Otherwise I really like Trappe Shot. He probably won’t make the Derby because he just broke his maiden yesterday and he has never gone a route of ground, but there is a chance!

Hmm…right now I like Lookin At Lucky and Caracorado, but there certainly looks to be plenty of other talent so far. A lot can happen between now and May!

Woohoo!  What a derby.

My hypothetical bets weren’t too far off this year, but unfortunately, the anti-gambling laws in my state prevented me from being able to actually get a bet submitted.  ::)  Gonna have to travel to the rivers (where the closest casinos - and legal gambling- are located) next year!  I was going to put Stately Victor and Super Saver both to place (I wanted Victor to win, but figured Super had a better shot in mud and with Borel), and Paddy to show.

And the best part is that I even got my boyfriend amped for the race.  Victory #2!  I managed to get him addicted to the Jockeys series last fall.   He must be a keeper!  :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why I married mine- the first Derby together, he actually listened when I explained stuff to him. Now he enjoys finding out and picking a horse to root for. So far he has a soft spot for the fillies- every year since then, he picks the girl. Got lucky, bitersweetly, wiith Eight Belles and this year was rooting for Devil May Care. And yes he like Rags in the Preakness/Belmont while I was a Curlin fan (still am!!!)
