Does anyone seem to have had a lot more deceased foals this year? When I first joined deceased foals seemed to be only rarely reported. I have had 10 foals born this year, 3 were stillborn. this seems like a high proportion when there is only a 1:300 chance of each foal dying. so far there have been 53 dead foals this year. I realise that the 300 to 1 figure is for each foal and has no relationship to other foals born to the same stable. but I was wondering if the ratio has changed or if I have just been very unlucky to loose nearly 1/3 of my foals?
I checked the database for this year and it’s about 5% stillborn foals for the 2014 crop.
The code hasn’t changed, PHP’s random number generator is just crap sometimes. I probably will change the code, though, to compensate for that (i.e. make the code think it’s a rarer event so that it still works out to the 1/300).
that would be cool ,i lost 4 foals out of the 16 i expected last yr a big blow for my size stable thats 1/4 of my crop ,1 foal the yr before, this yr i got a late start and wont have most til mid summer here is keeping fingers crossed
