I haven’t been this into a horse in a very long time so I was pretty excited to find out that Curlin won the Dubai WC today!!
Yes well done , absolutely annihalted his rivals
Here’s a link to what they have so far about it plus a link to a video recap of all the Dubai races…

I didn’t really like this horse last year, but I gotta admit he’s definitely getting better with age, wow!
This is what the Racing Post in Britain said:
A ONE-HORSE race. That’s what the betting suggested the Dubai World Cup would be, and that’s exactly what transpired as America’s finest, Curlin, amply demonstrated why he is considered the best horse in the world with a thumping victory in the world’s richest race.
Sent off 4-11 by British bookmakers, the Steve Asmussen-trained four-year-old produced a superlative display, annihilating his rivals in the $6m event on the Nad Al Sheba sand.
Always travelling supremely well three wide justbehind front-running US-trained compatriot Well Armed, Curlin was asked to take the race two furlongs out and shot clear under Robby Albarado.
The muscle-bound Breeders’ Cup Classic winner strode effortlessly clear of the field to win going away by nearly eight lengths from 10-1 chance Asiatic Boy, who wore down Well Armed for second in a race where Godolphin’s Jalil proved a major disappointment. Under pressure from Frankie Dettori turning for home, he was never a factor.
Curlin, who covered the 1m2f trip in 2m0.15s, was the seventh US-trained World Cup winner in 12 races. He was recording his eighth victory in 11 starts, having last year won a handful of America’s top dirt races, including the Preakness Stakes and the Jockey Club Gold Cup before taking the Classic at Monmouth Park.
I just watched the race and i CRIED when he took the lead and ran away with the race!! He is so amazing!
It would have been even better if Rags To Riches coulda been there and run against him. Now that would have been a horserace!
What an amazing streach run!! Robbie Alverado just ask Curlin once and the race was basically over!
Yeesh…the rest of that field was OWNED. He looked a bit tired and he was sweating good but he was three wide the entire trip. Very glad to see he’s coming home in a week to beat up on the rest of the handicap division.
Anyone else see Big Brown’s Florida Derby? I saw him putting up those fractions :22 and change :45 4/5 and 1:10 flat and thought there is no way he can hold on…and proceeded to watch him leap down the stretch in front by increasing daylight. The rest of the field looked pathetic.
Pretty good day yesterday for (US) trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. Two winners in Dubai, Diamond Stripes in the Godolphin Mile and Benny the Bull in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, and Big Brown in the Florida Derby.
Gawd. Big Brown lead wire to wire (i think…) and he pulled crazy fractions and opened up! OMG I think we’re looking at out biggest contender! Cause if you think about it. He can open up like that and keep goin, the belmont would be easy for him it seems.
Must have been a day for big wins in big races. Curlin pulls away and wins in Dubai and Brown pulls away and wins like crazy in Florida.
Quite an amazing performance I have to say! There’s no doubt Curlin is very, very good…and he seems to be getting better and better with age. I’m still a little bitter about the fact that none of his fellow top three-year olds from last year are still around…I would have liked to see how they matured and compared to Curlin. But, that’s the industry. I’m still hoping that sometime this year a horse will emerge that can run with him and test him…but the chances of that happening is getting more and more unlikely I think! lol Especially since there aren’t any stand-out older horses except for Curlin of course…And I highly doubt a three-year old could pose a serious challenge to him, because even a very good three-year old is at a disadvantage against a more experienced older horse. But never say never!
I think he and big brown will prob. be in the classic together. So that’ll be interesting.
Somewhat reminiscent of how Barbaro put away his competition in the Kentucky Derby…wow!
