Saturday sees the running of Australiasia’s weight for age championship event the W.S. Cox Plate, also part of the World Racing Series.
The worlds highest rated mare Makybe Diva is gunning for this race and I’m hoping she wins it! With rain falling out of the sky in Melbourne she’s looking hot stuff for the win following some stunning runs this campaign. If she wins this race, she will undoubtedly be the best mare in the world and the best Australia has ever had with her earnings surpassing the great mare Sunline. She’s got some tough competition in the race, but anyone who’s seen her run will know she is one incredible athlete.
Following this race, she might contest her third Melbourne Cup and if she wins, she’ll set a weight carrying record for a mare just for running and let alone winning [bettering her record last year] and she’ll also be one of only a couple of horses to win the big race three times!
Win or loose either of these races, she’s a champ forever!
Let’s go Diva, let’s go!
Sorry, but this horses is one of my fav racers of all time!
If you want to see an amazing horse race, search the net for a replay of the W.S. Cox Plate. They took off 600m/3f. out from the line which is not even on the home bend. Then they powered around the bend into the short stretch with almost the whole field running in a line together. It was awesome!
She’s the greatest mare in the world now - well, highest rated at least! She’s also won more than any other horse in Australasia with her earnings rocketing to almost AUD 11,000,000. That’s better than Sunline!
Yeah it was awesome. I was watching it at home on my big TV and it was amazing… The little replay screen doesn’t do it justice. Seeing horses making their moves four furlongs from home and not even near the final turn was awesome, especially when they fanned out to be running with some horses eight wide or something like that. Such a great race and if you look at the replay closely, when all the other jockeys were pushing around the corner, Makybe Diva was practically just rolling along in a trot. She had them covered before the straightened up. It was hers from about the one and a half furlong point [300m]. Best race I’ve seen in a long, long time!
