Clover Springs Auctions

All of them run from January 17-31. Most horses have reserves.

(Note that if Lindsay gets back to me and doesn’t want any sold, I’ll remove them from the auction. Also, I added some horses to the FF auctions held throughout the year.)

Stallions

Broodmares

Racehorses

Foals

I may add more horses to these auctions, but they’re meant to be the highlights. PM me if you’d like to see any other CS horses consigned. (Bear in mind that I also tried to limit bloodline duplication - rest assured that any super nice horses retained by FF will be sold eventually, just probably not in 2019.)

There is one unnamed Clover Springs horse in the Annual 2yo Auction:

finalfurlong.org/viewhorse.php?horse=26431

Yes, I know. There are over 1,000 unnamed 2yos (mostly FF-owned). I need to go through and name them.

Would it help in the naming process if some of us made name lists for you to use a bit like we did with pedigrees previously? Trying to do so many names even using a name generator sounds like a truly awesome task. I’d be happy to help.

Probably. In the past I’ve set it up so that certain members can edit FF-owned horse names and they’ve been able to name the horses directly. I’ll probably do that again, just need time to set it up.

Bidding is open!

Enjoy - or not, if (like me) you have a love/hate relationship with auctions.

Some of the bidding is getting interesting now  :astonished:

Should have mentioned this yesterday, but for the broodmares…any that foal during the auction will have their foals go with them to the new owner. Any mares due to foal after that will already be owned by the new owner.

I’ll have to do this manually, so give a shout if you buy a mare who foals (or has foaled) and I’ll transfer ownership.

Spent over $2 million, but I’m super excited about our new ponies. Tried to get a variety of bloodlines, as tempting as it was to hoard certain family combinations.

[color=blue]NCh. Von Lichtenstein is our first acquisition. A 6yo stallion by I’m A Classic, we’ve admired him for years. He represents a complete out-cross for the majority of our breeding stock, so that’s super useful. Excited to see what his babies do in 2 years. Cost $901,000.

[color=red]NCh. Crucible is another highlight. She’s a half-sister to Foolhardy and Bellagio, by Cross Roads. She’s 13 this year, and has 4 winners from 5 foals to race (the last only had one start last year as a 2yo, so we can’t hold that against him). Her oldest is MSW Ch. Whisper To Me, and her second foal (Return With Honor) is also a stakes winner. She’s in foal to Devil His Due for an April 2019 foal. Got her for $203,500.

[color=red]WCh. Oscuro Arco Iris is super exciting. She’s out of platinum-ranked Midnight Danger, by Rainbow Quest. She was a multi-stakes winner on the track herself, and all her foals to race are stakes level. She’s in foal to Nightfight (for a full sibling to her MSW daughter Glow In The Dark), due at the end of January. Got her for $500,500.

[color=red]ICh. Clendon Park is another multi-stakes winning mare. Her best foal to date is MSW Busker, all but one are winners (and her foals since Busker are pretty lightly raced). She’s in foal to Von Lichtenstein, due February 2019. Got her for $256,500.

[color=blue]Firebreather is a 3yo colt by ICh. Ring of Fire out of Ch. Touch of Magic. He’s the first foal from this MSW mare, who won stakes races at age 3 and 6, so we’re hoping he has a good career ahead of him. He debuts in a week, so we’ll see how it goes. Got him for $25,000.

[color=red]Trillian is a 3yo filly by FFCh. Foolhardy out of NCh. Atlantis. She’s half-sister to MSWs Prospero, Mummify, and Maya. She raced once last year with no luck, but we’re hoping she’s matured since then. Got her for $256,500.

[color=blue]Sir Percivale is a 3yo colt by WCh. Crystal Rainbow out of GCh. Ladylove. He’s half-brother to MSWs Fingerprints and While It Lasts. He debuts next week. Got him for $50,000.

[color=red]Black Glitter is a 3yo filly by WCh. Nightfight out of Rhapsody In Black. She’s half-sister to MSWs American Rhapsody and Nuit Noir. Got her (super cheap!) for $60,500.

[color=blue]Royal Defiance is a 2yo colt by FFCh. Foolhardy out of WCh. Highland Grace. His siblings are pretty lightly raced, so we’ll see what he can do. Got him for $50,500.

[color=red]Believe In Dreams is a yearling filly by NCh. Bellagio out of Ch. Youwouldntbelieveit. She’s the last foal from this mare, and half-sister to MSW Tragic Kingdom. Got her for $25,000.

Some lovely ponies on offer in these auctions. Super excited, and shocked, that we secured all of our top five picks. Not sure how that happened but couldn’t be happier with the new ponies. I put in a few half-hearted bids on some others that we were eventually outbid on but that’s fine. Waiting on two more ‘afterthoughts’ but so far we have:

[color=red]NCh Highland Paint, a 13yo daughter of NCh American Black and half-sister to MSW GCh Highland Black, GCh Mississippi, Ch Black Type and Ch League Of My Own as well as SP runners Embargo, Memorial Day, Slew The Darkness and American Glory. We were lucky enough to pick Mississippi up at the Select auction a couple of years ago - can’t believe we now have two daughters of American Black. Paint holds eight speed records on dirt and turf and comes in foal to Candidate. Cost $366,500.

[color=red]NCh Fingerprints is a 12yo daughter of Rainbow Quest out of Gold ranked GCh Ladylove. She was a turf specialist on the track, winning the BC Filly and Mare Turf and Nassau Stakes so should make a lovely match for just about any of our current stallions. She has a silver ranking, having produced a stakes placed runner from three foals to race. Currently in foal to Sunday Paper. Cost

Most of my other picks went too expensive, or I wasn’t that excited about buying them  so just added another broodmare to the herd. I think she’s really nice, though.

[color=red]Ch. Heartstring - 12yo broodmare by real-life Sunday Silence, out of Reine-de-Course (I/C) Heart’s Blood. Her half-sister is a multi-millionaire, gold ranked broodmare NCh. Cross My Heart. She’s also half to GCh. I Swear, and some other really nice racehorses. Her oldest foal is stakes placed, others are not raced much. This year she’s in foal to Bellagio, and the next we’ll probably breed her to Deep Impact.

My absolute top pick went above and beyond my spending limit, but I did manage to pick up 3 top picks and spend too much money.

[color=blue]Caravan is a yearling colt from NCh. Black Warrior’s final crop, out of the Cigar mare Ch. Celebration. He is half to Silvertini who was placed in her only start (at 2). His dam is a half-sister to Question Authority (dam of ICh. Quarren), Spectacular Silver (dam of GCh. Blue Empress), and Sky Catcher (GCh. Sekhmet). One of my top picks I was excited to get without a fuss. Bought for 20k.

[color=red]Ch. Filly from Chile was our sole broodmare purchase, a daughter of Bold Ruler out of Fall from Grace. Fall from Grace produced 10 winners from 10 foals including 3 stakes winners. Filly from Chile was a MSW of 400k+. She has produced 6 foals but only 2 have raced with records of 8 starts: 2-0-2-0, and a 4yo whose only start was finishing 4th in his 2yo debut. She comes in foal to Animal Kingdom. I’ve been wanting a Bold Ruler daughter for eons and my first choice went waaay over my spending limit, but she was the runner-up choice. Bought for 25k - free if you factor in Animal Kingdom’s fee!

[color=red]Bold Arrogance was a slight oops purchase because I read her age wrong and thought she was a 3yo, not a 4yo but she’ll be a nice project horse. By FFCh. High Chances out of AffairsOfTheHeart by Bold Ruler, she was unplaced in her only lifetime start at 2. Her granddam is Heart’s Blood, dam of 8 stakes winners, 3 MSW’s, and my own SW mare Ch. Passing Fancy. As an oops-now-project purchase, I’m happy I only paid 5k for her.

[color=red]Night Owl Special is a 3yo by FFCh. High Chances out of Ch. Nuit Noir by What’s It Worth. She was unplaced in 2 starts at 2 but I tend to throw out 2yo seasons. Her dam is a MSW of $1.2 million with a career highlight being a win in the G1 Epsom Derby. Her dam is half to NCh. American Rhapsody and Ch. New Moon. Night Owl Special’s only racing sib is a winner and hit the board 2 of 3 times. One of the few top picks I was able to get for 20k!

[color=red]Diamond Etched is a 2yo by NCh. Bellagio out of Chicago by GCh. Jazz It Up. Chicago is a SW and dam of 2 winners from 2 runners including SW Love Vigilante. Chicago is half to Ch. Mood Ring (dam of MSW Ch. Moon Over Miami), Still of the Night (dam of SW Deep Purple), and Driven (1 winner from 1 runner). I don’t have any Bellagio foals and decided to snatch this girl up. Bought for 25k.

[color=red]Hot Chili Feathers is a 2yo by ICh. Stressed out of gold-ranked NCh. Crucible by Cross Roads. Picked up because I loved her damline. Her dam is a MSW of almost $1.4 million, was a SW during all 3 years she raced and set 1 speed record. Hot Chili Feathers is half to MSW Ch. Whisper to Me, SW Return to Honor, 2 winning siblings. Crucible is half to FFCh. Foolhardy, NCh. Bellagio, and GCh. Mission Bay. Another top pick, bought for just 10k.

I’ve upped the limit for the broodmare and racehorse auctions by 1 horse since bidding seems to have stalled.

Enjoy!

Thanks so much!!!    :astonished:  :stuck_out_tongue:

Added one more, not that I need another broodmare but I just can’t resist a Highland Wizard girl  ::)

[color=red]Goldberry is a 10yo SW, SP daughter of RDC mare Heartsong. She showed her best form as a 5yo. Oldest foal is an unraced 3yo. She foaled prior to the start of the auction and will be bred to Quarren.

The last thing I need is more ponies, so of course I picked up 2…both girls.

[color=red]Ch. Smilin’ Irish is a 14yo broodmare, daughter of Irish River and Townsend Joy. She was a stakes winner on the track (at age 4), and her two youngest foals to race are stakes level (5yo Smilin’ Princess by Prince of Wonder is stakes placed, 4yo Calamity Jane by Foolhardy is a stakes winner). She’s in foal to Chivalry for an April 2019 foal. Picked her up for $75,000.

[color=red]Baroque is an unraced 3yo filly by NCh. Golden Text out of Bostonian. She’s half-sister to MSW Boston Wind, SW Easterner, and SP Simon Says and Gallant Dancer. Got her for $50,000, so we’re hoping she can at least earn that back.

Just as I’m attempting to downsize with my dispersal sale, there has to be a sale like this…  ::)

Oh well.
I’m really happy with my acquisitions, though:

[color=blue]NCh. Bellagio has become one of my favorite stallions in the game - I own & bred all three of his stakes winning offspring so far from three different broodmares.  He seems to cross really well with my program (based on this), so I’m really happy to welcome him to our farm.  I can’t wait to see what his next stakes winner looks like.  In addition to his ability to produce, he’s the only Lonesome Glory son standing at stud, and he’s half to the incredible Foolhardy.  What’s not to love?

[color=red]ICh. What’s Your Dream is a silver rated daughter of What’s It Worth (a line I don’t have much of…at least not this directly!) - and a multi-stakes winning multi-millionaire to boot.  She’s in foal to Sea the Stars.

[color=red]Evanescence is a silver rated daughter of Seattle Slew (a line I don’t have much of), and she’s 1/2 to a MSW, two SWs, and four SPs.  She’s in foal to Magic Cross - another of my favorite studs.

[color=red]Roxy Roller is a Bold Ruler daughter out of a Planet Hollywood mare, and she’s stakes placed.  Sadly, she had her Nightfight foal in early January, so she came to us open for next year.

[color=red]Golden Lioness is a 3YO daughter of our newly acquired Bellagio out of a stakes winning Highland Wizard daughter.

[color=red]Gracefuldancer is a 3YO Foolhardy daughter (!!!) out of a WCh. MSW Highland Rogue daughter.  By pedigree, she ought to be AMAZING!  Of course, that probably means she’ll love coming in last.  :stuck_out_tongue:  But that Foolhardy influence makes me really doubt that!

[color=red]Ka is a 2YO daughter of Bellagio out of a GCh. MSW created mare.  This one looks super promising - mom excelled at “Derby conditions” - 3YO, dirt, & correct distance, and I’ve had nothing but good luck with Bellagio babies.

[color=blue]Heist is a yearling son of our recently retired stallion, Witness (who just got his first studified son this year!).  His dam is MSP and appears to have matured early - a cross I like to see for late-maturing Witness.  In addition, she’s by Devil May Care and out of a platinum-rated mare, and she’s 1/2 to the successful stallion, Crystal Rainbow.

Last horse update: I’ve upped the limit for the broodmare, racehorse  and foal auctions by 1 horse. There are a few horses left so grab them by Saturday.

Enjoy!

I only walked away with one, and I sure am glad I got him!

Sparkling Edward, 5yo Stud by Crystal Rainbow o/o Dreamboat by Planet Hollywood. Raced for the first time today under Tall Oaks colors and won easily. Might try him in stakes company toward the middle of the year if he continues to do well.

Bidding ends tonight!
