I recently leased a broodmare from another English stable. What I didn’t realise is that I have to pay shipping to send my mare to a US-based stallion. Is this true? Is the shipping cost the same as for a racer?
Are there any stallions based in England?
If the answers to these three questions are Yes, Yes and No, can someone tell me how a new stable in England is supposed to become involved in breeding?
(Please don’t tell me that all the advice to newbies is to locate your stable in the US; I am aware of that but wasn’t aware of the breeding implications)
Yes it is true that if you want to breed in the U.S you have to pay a shipping fee.
Yes you pay the same rates as a racer.
No, there are no stallions standing in England.
If you want to be involved in breeding, save some dollars to pay for the shipping. (Sorry, this is the only advice I have )
Once FF stables are incorporated, they will allow stables to base their stallions away from their farm. Likewise, you can send your mares to a FF stable in the states, and then breed to anyone there. This should help with the problem, but I’m still working on the logistics side of FF stables. (Not that I have any time to code them even if I had them all figured out, though…someday, my life will be less crazy.)
Sorry that’s not much help in your current situation, though.
