I’d like some suggestions for where to send my mare, While I’m Lucky. I’d love to cross her with a Rogue stud, unfortunately the vast majority of them are outside of my budget and the only 2 so far that I’ve uncovered that are within my budget are Clockstopper (unproven) and High on Love (Bronze). Any others out there I might have missed? Or are there some lines that cross well with Lucky Cigar, looking at her dam’s side?
And nothing against Clockstopper and High on Love, I just want to see if there are more choices out there (plus who knows what still-to-be-retired horses are coming in this year).
Looking at her lines there’s some linebreeding you could do.
ICh. Take Me Away ($10k) would give you a 2x4 to Cigar
My Lucky Day ($25k), GCh. Akhetnaten ($10k) & ICh. Sleipnir ($5k) would give you a 2x3 to NCh. Lucky Cigar
GCh. Worth My While ($17k), NCh. Highland Wizard ($75k), would give you a 2x3 to What’s It Worth
NCh. Silver Wizard ($2.5k) would give you a 3x3 to What’s It Worth
There’s quite a few other stallions that would give you the same crosses, didn’t feel like listing all the Worth crosses, there are tons of them!
Worth My While is her sire, so I’d avoid him.
Personally, I try not to do anything closer than 3x3, but that’s just me.
Looking at her dam, the other successful foal she had was by Fleet Street. You could do Count Me In, who’s the only other Count Fleet-line stallion in the game.
Otherwise, I just try and figure out what I’m breeding for (turf/dirt/etc) and find a pretty-looking stud. Yes, the cheaper ones will be unproven, but that’s why they’re cheap.
The Rogue/Worth cross has proven to be successful many times over, so it may be worth forking over the extra money. If not, there are plenty of nice studs who are new to daddydom who may start off with a bang with your next foal, you never know.
Lol just noticed I put him on the list, whoops! Definately don’t breed back to him! Yes also forgot to mention that 2x3’s are pretty close to inbred so you have to decide if you want to take the risk on breeding that close.
High Chances ($20k) might be a good fit, since both your mare and he seem to prefer sprints. He’s the son of Highland Laird, so you do get the Laird/Rogue line without quite paying the premium. He has an excellent race record (top stakes-winning stallion in the game) and his first crop has already yielded two stakes winners at 2yos with over 50% winning as 2yos and an even larger percentage earning a paycheck when he, himself, didn’t really hit his stride until he was a 4yo–he didn’t even win as a 2yo!
I say this because I really believe in this boy, and I’m really happy with how he’s passed on his talents to his get in his first crop. Granted, some of the mares were really pretty, but not all of them were. In fact, it makes me much happier to see the successes of foals by less-distinguished mares. I really, truly believe that this boy improves upon the mares with whom he crosses, which is why I have never restricted any of his seasons to stakes winning/ranked mares. Despite his bronze ranking, his foals appear to be consistent runners, and I encourage you to take a close look at the race records of his progency. I really would not be surprised to see him go up to at least silver this year.
If his stud fee is really out of your budget, please PM and we can work something out.
