Stardom Bound just impressively won the Juvy Fillies, making a huge move on the outside to win by at least 3. Very nice! I was rooting for the Smarty Jones filly Be Smart, but after setting fast fractions, she faded badly in the top of the stretch.
Now, I know I have made my opinion on Dutrow pretty obvious… But for anyone not watching, they just did a segment on women trainers in the industry and were interviewing different people. They interviewed Dutrow who said (im paraphrasing) “I’ll go in anyone’s barn to learn from them, but I’ll never go into the barn of a woman trainer or learn anything from one”. WTF?! What a sleaze bag!
She was pretty awesome! Zenyatta and Stardom Bound both came from back in the pack at the top of the stretch so closers are winning on the polytrack. Bodes well for Curlin.
Zenyatta’s connections plan on racing her next year as a 5 y/o. It would be pretty awesome with a Zenyatta/Curlin matchup I think
Unfortunately Curlin got nipped for third in the Classic. It was the strangest thing - he made a move I’ve never seen before and he flattened out. I don’t think it’s the track that bothered him based on that. I mean, he’s never accelerated like that on the dirt before, but why couldn’t he sustain it?
What stinks for me is that Henry came out and bumped Johnny C. in the middle of his run so my 2008 Derby horse failed to continue and finished sixth. It freaking stinks; that horse is plagued by bad luck. If he wasn’t so damned unlucky he’d be held in higher regard.
Zenyatta is the queen, though. She truly deserves HOY. Simply classy, simply flawless.
