So I’ve been pondering going to the BC this year, since it’s at Churchill Downs. I’ve never been to Kentucky, and have always wanted to go, and the BC seems like a good excuse to do it.
(Unfortunately, I missed the deadline for random draw for good seating, but they’ll apparently allow late applications as long as seating’s available, so there’s still hope )
Anyway…kinda crazy question, but does anyone else want to go? It’d be much more fun to go with other people (esp. other horse/racing fans), and depending on the group, could lower hotel/food costs if we share rooms/etc. I’m asking now because it’d be good to sit together. (That kinda being the point an’ all…) I’m happy to buy a bunch of tickets and get reimbursed individually.
General Info: Breeders’ Cup is on 11/4/06 this year, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. Southwest does fly to Louisville, and they’ve generally got pretty good fares.
Any takers? I’ll wait a week or so before deciding one way or another on buying tickets for myself.
Very very possible…once i’m outta work I’ll check air fairs since that’ll be quicker and rent-a-car stuff. Though if it’s too expensive I’ll consider driving, and if there any takers it would be great to pick up some on the way to share gas. How much are the tickets?
Google has the route going through the southern part of WV, so that could be a meetup place if people want to carpool for half the trip.
Tickets range from $35-$350 for BC day. Depending on scheduling, it’d be kinda fun to go on Friday, too (think those tickets are the standard $10 or $15).
No clue what’ll be available, but the prices are:
Blue - $30
Green - $35
Pink - $55
Red - $75
Yellow - $100
Orange - $100
Black - $350 (includes buffet lunch)
In order of preference, I’d aim for: Pink, Orange, Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, Black
I’d be VERY interested in going, I also know of a bunch of other people that would love to go, I’d probably drive, coming from Jersey, I could easily pass through Philly. The Moore’s, who own a bunch of racehorses at the Milne’s also might have a horse or two in the BC and they said if they do they had a box they would love to share with anyone who might like to go.
Yeah, Wow, how many seats you think they might be able to share? If that were the case I would definately be interested in going and how much money do you think they would accept? That would absolutly be an honor to do something like that.
Wow, those ticket prices aren’t bad at all! And, to get to go in a box, how great would that be! Oh, it would be so much fun, but I have to pass, due to living no where near KY and being a dirt-poor almost college student. Just a little off topic, but what are Derby tickets, in comparison? More or less? My dad promised he would take me to the Derby one of these years.
Minus the wedding, that was my week last week. I sunburn easily and don’t like the taste of alcohol much. Still, it was nice to just hang out with family and relax. I ignored work/computers entirely, which was a nice change of pace.
And I got groomed by monkeys! What’s not to love about that?
Infield is $40. Reserved seating starts at $75 and goes up into the thousands. Derby tickets are very very hard to get though unless you buy them through a source other than Churchill Downs and then you pay way more.
If it were a year ago, Id love to go as I had been living in Lexington. As it stands Ill be in Philadelphia up to my ears in my first year of vet school and will have to resign to watching the BC on tv
I’d love to go with you but I live in California, you don’t know me and I’m going anyway with my family. Ever since we got into the Thoroughbred racing and breeding business, we’ve been going to all of the Triple Crown races, the Breeders’ Cup, the Santa Anita, the Bluegrass, the Florida Derby and other various famous races.
I’m not sure, I can’t remember which one of their horses it is that might qualify. I think it is either Tiger, Voodoo, or Smokey Glacken, though I can’t remember. My guess would be to buy the tickets now, since I have no idea when they would know if their horses were going to make it in, without injuring themselves, which Moore horses are notorious for. We have four of their racers at the Milne’s now, 1 with insistent muscle/joint lameness, 1 that had surgery on a joint, 1 that can’t keep weight on, and 1 that broke her pelvis.
Their one horse, Tiger, contracted EPM and it looked like he might not live for awhile, yet he’s back on the track, healthy and racing. Healthy Tiger Back For More In True North’Cap
So yea, we might as well purchase the tickets. Now it is just which tickets and how many since I still have to contact a few more people to see if they would like to go.
would be fun to do and im within a 15 hour or so drive, lol,and we just came down thru there on july 14th coming back from our two weeks in maine. Iwouldificouldbuticantso i pout…hehehheheh
but on a serious note, might be going in for neck surgery, god the things we pay for when we are older , for having fun as a kid!!! (the nurse looks at me and goes i wouldnt ride a horse with your neck like that) i wanted to fall off the table. I said I guess ill just have to teach my kids to ride then if i can get back on. She goes probably a good idea. >:(
