Another Set Back For Barbaro

I was heart broke when I read this article…

http://sports.yahoo.com/rah/news?slug=ap-barbaro

That’s a sad state  of affairs :frowning:

Poor Barbaro.  :frowning:  I’ll be pulling for him.

Oh jeeze… Just when I thought he was in the clear… I can’t believe it… That poor horse has been through so much.  :'(

Poor guy. Everyday I see an article on him I try not to tread it for fear of seeing more bad news. This poor horse has been through so much and has fought back every time. I keep wondering when enough is going to be enough. I’d hate to see him go after all that he has put up with but I feel that this time we’re in a downhill battle we’re not going to win.

I really hope he’ll prove me wrong once again. :'(

Yeah, even if he is alert/active (which are good parameters for gaging when to give up, at least), one has to wonder how much pain he’s been in for the last 8 months.  More importantly (IMO) is how much pain he’ll be in on a daily basis even if he does pull through all of this…many horses get quite gimpy due to arthritis, and his arthritis will set in super early (if it hasn’t already, to some extent) due to all the trauma.  (Not to mention the pain from the laminitis, as well)

Barbaro was put down…rest in peace, Barbaro.

I think they made the right decision, as hard as it must have been.  At some point, you have to stop the heroic measures and accept things.  Hopefully the experiences with Barbaro will help other race horses, through safer tracks and better vet care.

Still, I was a huge Barbaro fan and it’s hard to admit he’s gone and that in 4 or 5 years I won’t get to see a little Barbaro trying for the Triple Crown.

:'(  May The Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you.

May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.  :'(

Poor Bobby. He gave everything he had. I hope he is in a better place now, where he can run in endless fields of lush grass and never again has to feel pain.

Poor darling, but it seems like it was the right decision.  He fought hard and will be remembered, and now he’s in a better place.

Call me super emotional… I broke down & cried while reading the article about Barbaro being put down… I can almost understand his pain (having survived being the victim of a hit & run in August… I’m now out of cast & into a walking brace, how ever I may never walk without it… and I have a steel rod where my femur once was)… and I’m sure his owners made the right decision… and to know he will never make a painful step again gives me comfort…

What a courageous horse to have fought this long against such odds…

We Love you Barbaro… you will never be forgotten…

His owners made the right decision.  I really feel for his owners.  I had to put down my horse a few years back and it was the most heartbreaking experience in my life.  To lose such a loving and talented animal is a real tragedy but Barbaro will always be remembered and I know that he is in a better place now and is finally free of his pain.  Rest in peace sweet boy.

May he rest in peace.

Poor boy… I was hoping to see him heal…  :'(

I agree with Andrea that they made the right decision, though. That poor thing has gone through a lot of pain.

May the blessed Barbaro rest in peace.

He had a Great heart and fought with courage and determination that most will never know , may he rest in peace…
