An Update

Before I begin Let me say that this is Dawn’s Mother, She is in the hospital right now and asked me to keep a watch on her games & horses.

A Little history, Shanthi knows some of this story.  It begins on August 24, 2006, when Dawn & I were jogging in the evening after it had cooled down some (Dawn was a cross country runner in High School). As we jogged and chatted about the upcoming regional show, (we raise & show American Saddlebreds & National Show Horses). I heard a noise and as if in slow motion I watched as a drunk driver came onto the sidewalk and hit my daughter, and then continued to drive away. Dawn was thrown about 45 feet from the impact, he did not hit her head on, but from the side. For me everything happened in slow motion, in reality it took seconds. Within 5 minutes EMT’s were on scene (someone else had witnessed & gotten the licence plate number, and called 911) I called my husband he was in Chicago on business, He was on the next plane home. From what I could see, Dawn’s left leg had a compound complex fracture of the femur (Thigh bone) the rest of her looked a like she’d been in a prize fight. She was also unconscious. to make a very long story short. Dawn underwent surgery to repair her left femur that night, the put a metal rod from hip to knee and left tubes in for drainage.

Dawn’s an amazing kid, she had already decided she wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon, (She drove everyone crazy asking questions, the Dr.'s were awesome with her and they said she’d make a great surgeon someday) and after the accident (even though it meant she would not run cross country again) she began to ask if I thought she should change her specialty and become a female House? She said she had the limp & bum leg already. Whit the metal in Dawn we have to be very careful of infections. Last Wed Dawn came down with what most would call a common cold. Yesterday she was sent to ICU with sever Bacterial Pneumonia. Because of the accident she is at very high risk with this infection.

So, I’m now taking care of a couple of stables of horses, and may need everyones help.

Shanthi, Dawn asked me if you would ask Paul to take over as Captain of the Indigo Team until she can get back and do it herself again. it shouldn’t be for more than a month I would think, but I’m not going to say for sure. Dawn Loves this game and it has kept her from going “BOZO” as she puts it. When She’s released from ICU, she will have her laptop and limited time on it. I believe she’ll be home in no time. (but I’m mom and that’s what I’m supposed to believe).

Thank you to everyone who has befriended her in this game, if you ever meet her, you’ll never know what “hell” her life has been since August. She doesn’t let it show.

I will Keep everyone posted on progress (She’s going to hurt me when she finally reads this, but I think you all need to know).

Love to you all
Dawn’s Mom

Wow. Best of luck with the recovery - I hope everything turns out fine which I am sure it will. My thoughts are with Dawn, you and your family.

I hope she gets better soon! let her know we miss her and hope she comes back soon! I’ll keep Dawn and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Please give Dawn my best wishes for a speedy recovery.  Paul can take over as temporary captain with no problems.

Give her my best wishes also! Tell her what a trooper she is. Most people would be broken by this but she sounds like she’s a fighter!

Oh jeeze… Poor Dawn :frowning: All of that… yuck! I had a lot of surgeries (because of a chronic illness) myself, so I… er… SORT OF know what she’s going through… But… ARGH! That’s A LOT of crap to go through! That’s a HECK of a lot! I really hope she gets to feeling better SOON and that she gets back to the game that she loves! Plus, I know we’ll all miss her (she does so well in the handicapping! )! I sincerely hope she takes good care of herself and rests well until she’s feeling strong and healthy again!!! YOU HEAR THAT DAWN?! TAKE CARE, YOU!!! :stuck_out_tongue: We’ll all be here waitin’ when you get back!!!

God’s Speed with your recovery and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m sorry to hear about this time of trouble for you. I hope you have a speedy recovery; you and your family are in my thoughts.

I hope that she comes back soon. I am sure everyone in FF is wishing her a full and speedy recovery.

Dawn was moved out of ICU this afternoon. She said she’s ready to come home, but the Dr. said maybe in a couple of days. She’ll be able to go to a computer room tomorrow for a little while. So she will stop by and say hi.

wow, i hope you’re feeling better Dawn!

Hope you’re feeling better!  I can’t imagine going through all that and not complaining.

Glad FF has helped cheer you up at least.

Thanks a ton everyone… I could have strangled my Mom… but right now still to weak…

If everything goes well… I get to actually go home Wed… right now I’m in a sunny room where they allow laptops… I get 30 minutes… unless they think I’m over doing thing… I just can’t believe how fast this took me down…

The top side to this is after my mom has been taking care of my horses here… she’s decided she would like to have her own stable… so I think she’s going to ask Shanthi if she can join… (my sister also plays and that would make 3 from the same IP… we’ll see…

Well back to the bed… talk to ya’ll later…

Shanthi… thanks for understanding and being such a great game owner… this game has been a true sanity saver for me… Thank you so much for Final Furlong… (Mom says you have a bonus coming soon)…

And Paul… thanks so much for taking over as Cap’n while I’m down… you are the best!

That’s fine…the more the merrier.  My only issue with multiple stables from the same IP address is when it’s obvious that it’s the same person creating a bunch of stables for themselves.   It’s unfair if one stable gets extra money/horses just because they cheated and joined the game more than once.

Thank You Shanthi I have done just that  ;D

Look out Dawn, Mom’s horses are out to get you.

So sorry to hear what happened to you Dawn, that’s terrible! I wish you the very best for a quick recovery!!

I hope that you start to feel better really soon Dawn, and that really sucks that something so bad had to happen to such a nice person.

We’ve had a similar situation in my neighbourhood, especially around school zones of all places with people speeding, pulling U-Turns, parking in non-parking spots and the like, so we started a naighbourhood watch to try and deter against it and report offenders.

Hope you start to fell better soon though, and can go home on Wednesday because home cooking beats hospital food hands down

Lindsay

Glad to hear that you’re out of the ICU. Here’s hoping you get to go home soon. Best wishes.

Oh, jeez. I can’t believe it took me so long to see this…!

I hope you’re feeling better, Dawn. I’m really sorry you can’t run anymore. (I run Cross Country too, and it’s my sport. I love it. I was varsity for middle school.) But I’m sure you’ll be fine. You’re such a trooper.

Good luck with you. Sorry I took so long.  :-[

It’s great to hear you’re better Dawn!

Also, I see you’ve lure your mother into the game! lol. I wish my mother at least approved of it. :stuck_out_tongue:
