In March, a bunch of racehorses that had shipped in started going back into work, and Mrs. Milne asked if I would be interested in riding any of them. Like she had to ask. Anyway I got assigned my first racehorse, and can you guess what her name was…it’s a doozy…Ohbeegeewhyen…yes that is her name. She was a really pretty chestnut mare with an interesting blaze.
Anyway, she was the first “real” racehorse I had ever ridden, and yes I did ride her in one of those ridiculously small saddles, though the stirrups were only a little shorter than the ones I ride my jumper in. Anyway I had a blast working with this mare and she was shipped back to the track in April.
She just had her first race since November today, a $40,000 claimer, which is on the higher end of the claiming world. She dominated the field and won under a hand ride. It was nice to see that I didn’t screw up the first racehorse I rode.
I am thinking of adopting her once her racing career is done, she was a really nice mover and she reminded me a lot of my mare. What really hooked me was how sweet she was. She was such a love in her stall. She loved to be groomed and fussed over, I pulled her mane with her loose in the stall, without a halter even on. For a racehorse, she was really nice, on the ground and under saddle. She was rambunctious, but she didn’t dump me, unlike Baby Book who threw me into the dirt the first time I rode her.
With a pedigree like hers I think she’ll be a valuable broodmare when she’s done. Have a look at it http://www.pedigreequery.com/ohbeegeewhyen. Having both Princequillo and Nashua up so close in the dams line “I believe” makes her that way.
That’s really funny. I saw that you had posted this picture on another website, and I though the name was quite unusual. Anyway, I saw her win that race on television and thought of you!
Went into work yesterday and found out that we had a BUNCH of racehorses coming in, at first is was 3 but then it turned out to be 5. And guess who’s back! You guessed it, Ohbeegeewhyen! She’s done very well since she left, won a few claimers, even an allowance. My boss has already told me that she’s mine to ride again!
Doesn’t seem as though she’s changed any, still quiet on the ground and loves getting all the attention possible. Two others that we had last year are also back; Rememberthecowgirl, and Baby Book…she who dumped me in the sand!
YAY I’m happy for you Mintano (and totally jealous )! That’s soooo awesome that you get to ride her! She looks like a cutie from her photo, and she sounds so sweet! I wish you both luck!
hee hee. Baby Book sounds like a handful and Ohbeegeewhyen seems like a great little girl. And a cutie too! She reminds me of a broodmare we have. And Baby Book is just like the full-sister 2yo and 3yo we have. They’re crazy. First time I rode each of them…you guessed it! I got dumped! lol. We also have a yearling colt I’m training and I just don’t get him. He’s…different… Anyway, I’m glad she’s back and you can ride her again! Good luck!
