9/29

Great day!

[color=blue]Ch. Alfresco, the star of my stable, ran in 7.0f Ungr. Bertram F. Bongard Stakes for 2yo (D) and placed 2nd/10! This makes him multi-stakes placed.

[color=green]Fortunate Son perked up a bit for his last race. He ran in 5.0f Allowance for 4yo+ (T) and placed 2nd/6. That’s the first bit of money he’s earned for me! He could actually reach a champion title if he keeps it up for the next few races.

[color=red]Ch. She’s Outlawed finished 2nd/10 in the Joseph A. Gimma stakes for 2yo fillies. I was hoping for a win here. She lost by a nose.

[color=red]Chalula One finished 2nd/6 in a NW3 for 2yo, in which her stablemate [color=blue]Im Your Daddy finished 4th. This is becoming a tradition for this maiden filly, that she finishes second. I’m happy about the colt, because it’s his best result so far. Maybe he’ll start making money when he gains more experience.

It was a day full of surprises!  Some good, some not so good, but nothing to be upset about:

2YO [color=red]Nicole’s Majic (A.P. Indy) is now a stakes winner, winning the ungraded Joseph A. Gimma stakes.  This is her 4th win in a row - I think we’ve got her preferences figured out, and she’s a happy girl.

3YO homebred [color=blue]Imprimis (King David) ran a hard race, earning an astounding speed record of 374  :astonished: with only a second place finish.  He won his last two times out, but the winner, Tripoly, proved to be quite the force to reckon with.  I’m am more than satisfied to lose to that boy - he looks like he’s going to be one to watch (and he’s by the same sire as my best colt, Ducati, so it’s no wonder…)

5YO [color=red]Foxy Ruby (Gallant Fox) ran her second race for us, and finished second.  I purchased her as a broodmare prospect, as her dam is gold-rated - doing well on the track so far this year is just a bonus.  I would LOVE to see her get those last 40 racing points to earn her champion title before we retire her but…we’ll see.

4YO [color=red]Afterglow (Affirmed) ran second in the G2 Challenge Stakes.  She is a lovely mare who really blossomed this year, and whom we would love to see reach her grand champion title before retirement - she’s 90 points away, but spring is a while away yet.

2YO homebred [color=red]Talkofthetown (Rumor Has It) ran 4th in her NW2 - it was her first turf attempt, and first time off the board.  She’s 1/2 to Afterglow, so I’m really hoping she’ll fill her big sis’s shoes someday.

And finally, 6YO [color=red]I’m Feelin’ Lucky (created) ran 5th in her race, but I’m not unhappy with that.  I’m fairly certain she’s over the hill now.  She was my “oops” purchase - I saw she’d done fairly well in her last few races, and thought I could get her figured out some more…without realizing she hadn’t raced in 2 years::)  I was hoping to race her, get her consistant, then retire her to brood if she proved herself like I anticipated.  Looks like we won’t get that shot - she will definitely be retired in the spring, and we’ll probably take a gamble and see what she can produce.

I think if I throw out the months I was away from the game, this has been the best year on record for Coleman Branch.  Nine out today, with very pleasing results.

[color=red]Tothemoonandback found the winner’s circle for the second time, wiring the field of 10 in a NW2 for 2yo’s.  Hopefully she’ll keep up her winning ways now that she seems to have stopped growing.  1st/10

[color=red]Taking Vegas continues to impress with her fourth money-earning trip in a row.  Looks like she enjoys shorter distances.  She’s stakes placed over 9.5f, but took charge over 7.5f in a NW2 for 3yo+F.  1st/6

[color=red]Frontier Days is a claim I’m glad I made back in January.  This is her second victory in as many starts, most recently a Starter Allowance for 3yo.  1st/6

[color=green]Epsilon might just be finding his feet (FINALLY).  After basically not running at all his first two years on the track, he earned his third win in four starts this season over 10f in a NW3 SC for 3yo+.  1st/6

[color=blue]Pay the Boatman earned himself a plane ride to Australia after winning his third straight, a 7.5f NW3 for 2yo.  He’ll be trying stakes company in a few weeks and needless to say, I’m hoping he proves himself worthy.  1st/9

[color=blue]Highland Devil is still something of a work in progress, but I’m fine with his effort in a 7f NW1.  Longer distances should do good things for him.  2nd/11

[color=red]Sylviianel remains winless, but continues to earn money.  I’m not entirely sure what to do with her just yet.  Her latest effort was over 12f in a NW2.  3rd/6

[color=red]Margaritaville is always consistent, slowly working her way toward Ch. status.  I’ll probably shorten her up a bit next time out, after her latest, a 13f Allowance.  3rd/9

The only kid off the board today was [color=blue]Homesteader, 5th/6 in a NW3 for 2yo.  Not sure whether it’s a D/S or equipment change that he needs.  Ah, well.  We’ll keep trying!

11 runners, only 3 worth commenting on.

1 Winner
[color=blue]Take Flight, (4yo, Major’s Flight x Foxfire) 1/6 in an OA at Arlington.

1 Second
[color=blue]Ch. Prestige, (4yo, Cross Roads x Magician’s Mystery) 2/9 in an OA at Belmont. The 7 points earned from this race qualified him for Champion status.

1 Third
[color=blue]GCh. Defense Secretary, (6yo, Secretariat x FlaminPossibility) 3/6 in an OA at Belmont.

Of the Also Rans
[color=red]Whats Believeable, (3yo, What’s Debatable x By By Birdie) 5/6 in an NW2 at Calder. Bowed a tendon and will be off the track for about three months.

[color=blue]Getoutofmyway, (2yo, Slew O’Scots x Risk Away) 8/9 in an NW3 at Belmont.
[color=red]Mirror Twin, (2yo, Harvard Bound x Backwards Image) 6/8 in an NW2 at Belmont.
They were going to be entered in the Breeders’ Cup but, after these sub-standard performances, that plan will now be shelved.

[color=blue]Glorious Victory, (2yo, Magic Glory x Decisive Victory) 7/10 in the Ung Bertram F. Bongard Stakes at Belmont.
He was going to be entered in the Breeders’ Cup but, after this sub-standard performance, that plan may change. He will be given one more race before a final decision will be made.

Highlight of the day was Black Cherry getting his 7th SW. He still needs Gr1s, so he’s not qualified yet. I will be really super pleased if HC can get some sons at stud. You know, for the Laird army. =)

Im working on it! I have a bunch of babies coming , and growing !
