Another day where many of our runners (28+7 2YOs) were having their first race for this year. In spite of this, we still had 8 winners, including 2 long-time absentees. No SW but 2 SP. Unlike Wednesday, we had more off the board than on it, they seemed to like last place or second to last best.

Irish Spitfire (2yo, Sionnach) in a claiming race - Claimed by Generous Bloodstock. Took a gamble that nobody would put in a $35,000 bid for a 2YO who hadn’t shown any promise in any of his races. Good luck to his new owners.

Ch. Fuzzy Square (5yo, Foolhardy) in an Allowance - His first race since July last year. He had a great 2YO year (unbeaten in 4 races, including the BC Juvenile) and a very good 3YO year (2G1W, including finishing 2-3-1 in the US Triple Crown - won the Belmont) but, the few times he ran last year, could only manage one 5th place. The quality of today’s race wasn’t overly challenging so he’ll need a couple more races before we can work out if last year was an anomally or if he is not going to come close to recreating his 2 & 3YO form.
