Spring Fling broke her maiden today in a 8.5f Dirt NW3 Allowance for 3yo+ fillies and mares.
Subzero Justice put in a dominating performance in the GI Ruffian Stakes. She’ll be next out in the Beldame and if all goes well she’ll run in the Distaff.

[sub]So I bought this horse Forward Steps because I needed a good horse. He attracted me and so I sold one of my horses to get him. I entered him in a race. He has yet to win and he did fantastic breaking his maiden in a field of 10 I was so happy! Forward Steps is his name. This is my first win and first race with this horse.[/sub]
With school starting I don’t have as much time to dedicate to my babies but Jett Street (currently for sale in the Select Auction) took a 3rd in his allowance which is awesome because it means I’ve finally found what he likes.
Not Only An Act, a two year old I claimed for his name, took a 7th after leading the field then DNFing at the final furlong.
Also, I logged in this morning to see another colt of mine, Sure N Black, broke his leg. He’s the first injury at Day Break and one of the colts who had a very promising year so it was a blow. Hopefully, after a long recovery, he’ll be back next year.
Quite a good day here at Sorrelleaf Stables. Four out, three paychecks.
The big disappointment of the day was leased Landscape, finishing 5/6 in her NW3. She didn’t particularly like the track today; she’s an odd mare who likes a wet racetrack. I think she is better off running against the girls.
I’m very happy I spent 14k buying and shipping Star Gaze from England. He’s earned twice that back in just two months. He definitely showed his stuff by winning his 5.5f NW3 by over 40 lengths!
My not-so-little leased mare, Echo Valley proved her worth yet again, being in the money for the fourth time in a row. I’m happy with her performance, and see a Stakes in her future.
Last, and most certainly not least is Baltic Bird, the favorite of my racehorses. She finally grew up to a whopping 15h, after a over a year of dismal finishes, and placed 2nd for the 3rd time in a row. She does seem to have contracted some placeitis, but I’m happy.
All my runners today were in Stakes races, which was a little different.
Optimistic was 4th of 12 in the Gr. 3 Arlington Matron Handicap. I’m pleased that steeplechasing seems to be agreeing with her; she’s done well for me this year.
Zoo Music Girl was my only real disappointment of the day, 8th of 12 in the Gr. 1 Ruffian Stakes.
Storm Of Swords was 4th in the Gr. 2 Jerome Stakes.
Caledonian was 2nd in the Gr. 2 Belmont Breeder’s Cup. Would’ve loved for this to have been another win, but this will do for today.
Compass won the Gr. 1 Joe Aitchenson Stakes, thus completing 2 wins in the SC Triple Crown. I love this horse. Love love love him with more love on top. Jazz Sonnet was 2nd and I am rather fond of him, too.
Congrats on your first win!
Our day got off to a cracking start with Gold Edition leading pretty much from start to finish to win his Allowance.
Unfortunately, it was all downhill after that, with the other runners finishing nearer last than first.
Scenic Adventure, one of our two Starter horses, finished 13th/14 in his Allowance.
Ch. Grey Ghost certainly didn’t run like a Champion, finishing 4th/6 in his Allowance.
Secret of the Wild, a fairly new acquisition to our stable, who had won once and placed second twice in his his three races for us, and a horse that we had very high hopes for, could only finish 6th/10 in his Allowance.
Hat-trick seeking Special Effect was another major disappointment, finishing 7th/13 in the Grade 1 Joe Aitcheson.
Our last runner??? for the day, Ch. Class Above also didn’t run like a Champion. He never looked like getting into the Grade 3 Newcastle Newmarket H’cap and finished 10th/10.
Ironic how our first runner for the day finished first and our last runner for the day finished last .
In addition to these, we successfully claimed Intimate Lies, a nice looking 17.1 hand 5YO who has 5 wins in his 13 starts. It will be interesting trying to figure him out as his five wins have been in races as short as 5 1/2 furlongs and as long as 13 1/2 furlongs and he has run well on both Dirt and Turf. Ah, the joys of racehorse ownership!!!
Well we only had one horse race today, and it’s the mare that I’m leasing. Touchdown really didn’t have a great race record at all but I saw some hope in her. So i put her in training and then let her rest up. It all ended up paying off becuase she won her very first race with me and it was a first first place for her.
Today was an all around good day. We had three horses race, two of them being in the money.
Our first race run was with A Pharoah’s Victory one of our two year olds. She proved to be a good runner early in her career
and lately just hasn’t been dong as well. She came 8th out of nine in her race today. No doubt I’ll keep her though until
I can breed her whether she has a fantastic record or not because she does have great lines.
Our second horse to run was Classic Party our three year old stud. When I bought him he really didn’t have a fantastic record,
and I just thought I saw some potential in him. My gut has proven me right because he won his race today, and placed second in his previous race.
Just an allowance today, but we’re getting there. I’m am really proud of him and can’t wait to see what else he’ll give me.
Our third and final hose to run today was Wine Trick a four year old mare. I bought her for breeding stock next year, but decided to
beef up her race record a little bit so I kept her a racehorse this year. I really wasn’t expecting all that much out of her, but she really surprised me today
by placing second in her GIII stakes race. I am so proud of her and just hope she’ll continue to do well.
Saturday we have three horses entered, Numb3rs a three year old stud, Skylight a four year old gelding, and
Boundtobebeautiful a three year old mare.
Maviko, sorry to hear about the injury. I’ve just finished rehabbing a 3yo who broke her leg as a 2yo during training. After 3 races, she’s still sound and I’ve almost stopped holding my breath when I send her out. Best of luck with the long road to recovery.
Stonecrest, I’m happy Touchdown is running well for you. Good luck. ^.^
I’m hopeful that he’ll heal. I mean, I have a filly coming back quite successfully from a bowed tendon this year (I bought her with the injury hoping her record would improve with rest). But it’s just disappointing because he was one of my bread and butter horses (and one I was tentatively hoping would make stud next year or the year after) and it was just a random happenstance during a walking workout of all things.
No way! Barely Black broke her leg walking too… Mrrr to the freak accidents.
Compass won the Gr. 1 Joe Aitchenson Stakes, thus completing 2 wins in the SC Triple Crown. I love this horse. Love love love him with more love on top. Jazz Sonnet was 2nd and I am rather fond of him, too.
Akkk i had this horse when i first started and he drove me nuts as a 2yo so i changed him to SC and sold him … Bad idea eh … Well done
15 out.
Scintillation won his sprint in decisive fashion.
Big news though…
Ch Dixie Time ran away with the GII Belmont Breeders’ Cup to give the stable our 100th win
4 out for Gintara Lodge.
Debut Performance ran a shocker running last in 5.5 furlong sprint, was a bit of a test being turf and will now stick to the dirt.
Western Magic ran a nice 2nd in her maiden and has her hoof right on the till imho

Always in Demand ran 4th in the Group 1 stakes race, can’t complain
National Anthem won the grp 3 7f race, his first stakes race and vindicates my decision to geld him.
