Really good week for the Hill

Wins
City Upon a Hill (Crystal Rainbow) won his 3rd stakes win today. I shouldn’t count my chickens before they hatch…but I wanna say he’s my next stud prospect.

Rahmbunctious (Rahy) got her 2nd stakes win against the girls.

TheLaughofMedusa (Dark Continent) won against the boys. Really pleased with her.

Notachanceinheck (High Chances) won his OA. At 5yo, I’m still a little surprised he has so many wins left in him.

Bite Your Tongue (Foolhardy) won against the boys. Whoot!

Kept Woman (Long Live the King) broke her maiden. Really pleased.

Place

Bandit’s Love (Highland Bandit) was 2nd in her OA.

Cleopatra’s Demand (Akhetnaten) was 2nd in her NW3 after a long rest.

Dilsey (Dark Continent) was 2nd in her NW2.

Show
Longevity (Long Live the King) was 3rd in her NW2, behind stablemate Dilsey.

After the Storm (Long Live the King) was 3rd in his maiden.

Black Cherry (High Chances) was 3rd in his Gr. 3.

Jester’s Crown (Foolhardy) was 3rd in her Gr. 1

Only four out:

4(2)-1-2(1)-0-1(1)

WINS

[color=red]Allnighter II (2yo, All Jazzed Up) won her NW2.

PLACES

[color=blue]Copycat (2yo, Mr. Prospective) was second in his NW2.

[color=blue]Ch. Bear Witness (3yo, Witness) was second in the G3 Arlington Handicap.

FOURTHS

[color=red]Ch. Girlfight (4yo, Nightfight) was fourth in the G3 Modesty Handicap.

Another great day for us, with another 6 winners, including 5 SW’s, and over $1m in earnings. Only one runner out of the money. We had two more Classic 1-2’s, in the G1 St. Leger Stakes (actually Starfish horses finished 1-2-3 in this race) & G1 Coaching Club American Oaks (again, not sure if this race is considered a Classic). Our 17th Classic win this year including 11 1-2’s.

13(11)-6(5)-3(3)-1(1)-2(2) $1,346,600

Wins
[color=blue]G.Ch. Bracton, (3yo, Ch. Rumor Has It x Lady of Honour) 1/10 in the G1 St. Leger Stakes in England. His 6th win to go with 1 second in his 7 races this year, following his win in G1 Epsom Derby Stakes. He just failed to win the English Triple Crown as he was second by a nose to stable-companion [color=blue]Ch. Magic Roundabout in the G1 Two Thousand Guineas. This win takes his earnings for this year to just over $3.5m and gives him his “GCh” title. He now needs only 1 SW plus 2 additional SP’s to become Stud-Qualified.
[color=red]G.Ch. Classic Red Line, (3yo, NCh. I’m A Classic x A Fine Red Line) 1/10 in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont. Her fifth win in nine starts this year (all SW, including 4 G1W), also her third Classic win, following on from her wins in the G1 Preakness Stakes and G1 Mother Goose Stakes.
[color=red]G.Ch. Major Dreams, (3yo, GCh. Major’s Flight x Sheza Dreamer) 1/10 in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes in Australia. Her 5th win to go with 3 seconds in her 8 starts this year (all in Stakes races). She earned her “GCh” title with this win.
[color=blue]G.Ch. Casting Couch, (4yo, FFCh. TakeMeToHollywood x Back Streets) 1/10 in the G3 Arlington Handicap at Arlington. His second consecutive win (both SW) and 4th SW overall, so he just needs three more SW to become Stud-Qualified (he already has the required G1W/SP/S1P needed). He earned his “GCh” title with this win.
[color=red]G.Ch. Boundless Train, (4yo, WCh. Strike It Rich x By Honor Bound) 1/10 in the G3 Modesty Handicap at Arlington. Her second consecutive win and third win for this year (all SW).
[color=red]Tshotsholoza, (4yo, Ch. Moonopoly x Play Those Tunes) 1/6 in an NW3 at Woodbine. Only her second win in her career. She is For Sale for $15k.

Seconds
[color=red]Ch. Sand Dune, (3yo, Giant’s Causeway x Dayatthebeach) 2/10 in the G1 St. Leger Stakes in England, behind stable-companion [color=blue]G.Ch. Bracton.
[color=red]Ch. Office Hours, (3yo, ICh. Alley Cat x Wonderful Dreams) 2/10 in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont, behind stable-companion [color=red]G.Ch. Classic Red Line.
[color=red]Ch. Whats Believeable, (4yo, WCh. What’s Debatable x By By Birdie) 2/10 in the G2 Clement L. Hirsch Handicap at Del Mar.

Thirds
[color=blue]Ch. Magic Roundabout, (3yo, ICh. Magic Glory x What’s That About) 3/10 in the G1 St. Leger Stakes in England, behind stable-companions [color=blue]G.Ch. Bracton and [color=red]Ch. Sand Dune.

Fourths
[color=blue]Ch. Rebel Brother, (5yo, GCh. Backseat Driver x Movie Mistress) 4/10 in the G1 King George VI Chase in England.
[color=red]Song Thief, (2yo, GCh. Cool Thief x Play Those Tunes) 4/10 in the G2 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar.

Also Ran
[color=blue]Ch. Crystal Double, (5yo, WCh. Crystal Rainbow x Clear As Crystal) 7/8 in an OA at Arlington. He is For Sale for $50k.

Lewis, I’m not sure what your feeding your horses, but I want some. Congrats.

What’s your secret Lewis? Your record this year is amazing!

I’m not sure that there is a secret. Most of my success has come from trial and error, figuring out what seems to work and playing around with what doesn’t.

I don’t over train my horses giving then one days rest a week and twice a week they only jog for 1/2 mile. I do not train them when they are at home (or at a Boarding stable), nor do they train while In Transit.
I give them about 3 weeks break between races (4 weeks for a 2yo).
For 2yo & 3yo, I send them home after every 3rd race, for 4yo & up, it’s after every 6th race. I usually give them the same amount of home rest that they would get between races. If they are far from home, i.e. England/Ireland or Australia, I send them to a Boarding stable at their current location, but also try to ensure that they do get to go home after every 2rd or 3rd time at a Boarding stable.
After they have been shipped to a new track, I resume their training routine and give them about 10 days to acclimatize to their new location.
I try not to ship them all around the place, preferring to try and find races at the same track they last ran at.
I try and figure out whether they prefer Dirt or Turf and keep them racing on their preferred surface. If they don’t appear to have a preference for either surface, I will then try them at SC.

I can’t think of anything else that I do specifically, but this does seem to work for my horses.

I don’t know if this has any effect but, when I buy new horses, I tend to like to buy horses whose Broodmare is one that I have had success with in the past. I also stay away from Geldings and Created horses. Recently, I have started restricting my purchases to only 3yo’s or younger, but that is mainly because we have over 264 horses in the Stable.

It was a big day for me because I finally surpassed $1,000,000 in total earnings (since joining in January).

3-2-0-0-0 $54,000

[color=green]Country Store (4yo, Point Given) came in 1st in an OA.

[color=blue]So Naive (3yo, Gunningdownromance) also came in 1st in an OA.  This performance was a surprise, as he’s been placing 2nd in NW2s his last few races.  I think he was sick of being stuck in England and wanted to pay for his plane ticket home!

[color=blue]No Second Chances (4yo, High Chances, leased from Coleman Branch) finished 9th in an OA over jumps.  I haven’t figured this guy out.

No runners of ours out, but we did bring home a claimer.

[color=blue]Fightingtilltheend is a 2yo son of our now-retired stud Slew O’Scots and Ch. Wingsonmyhooves, who was a MSW on the track herself and is the dam of SP Magical Dust. He finished 5th in this outing (his third lifetime race), so we’re hoping with a bit of maturity (he’s only 13.3h!) he’ll do quite well.

One nice surprise!

[color=blue]GCh. Al Mundhir (a grand champion from now on) won the Gr. 1 King George VI Chase! Do we have a new stud prospect?
