7/16

Just one of my slow ponies was entered… no surprise that she didn’t win, but she did earn quite a high speed figure for her. I know I would retire them if they were colts…! Or first geld them, and then retire after a few races

3yo Creme Carmela finished 2nd/6 in NW1 steeplechase. Her second run over jumps.

Five runner, three in-the-money finishes. The only one worth noting is homebred Ho’opa’i winning a 5.5f turf NW3 for 3YOs just four days after taking a 6f turf allowance. Talk about a quick turnaround!

Three out - one winner and two not disgraced 2yos (3rd and 4th).

The win came courtesy of Romance N Honour (4yo Alley Cat) in an OA on dirt. She set a speed record today.

Wins
N.Ch. Away The Lads, (4yo, Slew O’Scots x Risk Away) in the G1 International Stakes in England. His 3rd win this year, all G1W, this is the 3rd consecutive year that this race has been won by a Starfish horse, following on from First Born Son last year and In The Navy the year before that. Both of these horse are currently standing at Stud and, barring illness or injury, Away The Lads should be joining them next year.
Ch. Fighting Back, (5yo, The Fighting Fifty x Back For More) in the G2 Washington Park Handicap at Arlington.
sorBet, (2yo, Invasor x Big Bet) in an NW2 at Saratoga. His 2nd consecutive win.

Seconds
N.Ch. Last For More, (4yo, Lasting Spirit x Back For More) in the G1 Suburban Handicap at Belmont.
Ch. Straticus, (4yo, Simply Heroic x Hashin Out A Song) in the G1 International Stakes in England.
Ch. Crystal Warrior, (3yo, Black Warrior x Magic Crystal) in the G2 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont.

Ch. Sent to the Devil, (4yo, TakeMeToHollywood x Devil’s Own) in the G1 International Stakes in England. She earned her “Ch” title with this performance.

Also Ran
Ch. Back St. Flight, (4yo, Major’s Flight x Back Streets)
Ch. Beautiful Rumor, (5yo, Rumor Has It x Sunset Beauty)
G.Ch. Calle d’Oro, (3yo, Golden Text x Back Streets)
Come On You Spurs, (2yo, Tottenham Hotspur x Commem)
Ch. Keyboard, (5yo, War Chant x Lady of Mystery)
Ministry of Magic, (3yo, Magic Glory x Must be a Mystery)
Ch. Sunset Flight, (3yo, Major’s Flight x Sunset Girl)
Ch. Trojan War, (3yo, Cool Thief x Aphrodite)

woohoo! Generally I’m too lazy to write these out but today had a couple of highlights that were the best this year.

NCh. Devil’s Walk earned his new title winning the Gr. 1 Suburban Handicap which was completely unexpected. I had seriously thought he was on his way out of stakes races. Just one more graded win and he will be stud worthy yippee! I must admit it also makes  me extra happy he has no Rogue or Worth blood so the options will be endless

Ch. Make Me Magical also surprised with his first stakes win in the Gr. 2 American Derby. I have two horses by his sire Must Be Magic and the other is only one stakes win away from being a stud.
Shame he’s retired!

WINS

Foolish Queen (2yo, Bellagio x Must Be Royal) won her NW1 - her first start!

Ch. Olympic Torch (3yo, Worth My While x Olympic Gold) won the G2 Dwyer Stakes, his third stakes win and first speed record.

NCh. Exit Poll (5yo, Irish River x Family Gold) won the G1 Irish Grand National, his fourth G1 win.  He’s not showing any signs of slowing down, even though he’s already proven himself stud-worthy…

PLACES

Time For Belles (6yo, Slew O’Scots x Time For Truth) finished second in her OA.  She’s finished in the top three 6 of 7 lifetime starts, even though she wasn’t started until age 5.  She’s already guaranteed a future spot in our brood band for sentimental (& pedigree-based) reasons, as she is 1/2 to our now retired boy, Witness…but it’s good to see she can still hold her own at 6.  She has to make at least one more start before the end of the year, then we’ll decide if she should keep running or retire…

Crucifix (3yo, Spock x Twilight Embers) finished second in the G2 American Derby, his first stakes start.

GCh. Allinvain (5yo, Worth My While x Alwuhush) finished second in the G2 Bing Crosby Breeders’ Cup Handicap, with his 3yo 1/2 brother (whom we bred & sold) finishing third right behind him.  I’m glad he’s still game, but I’m getting anxious - he needs two stakes WINS of any level to secure his studhood.  He has always preferred to play bridesmaid.  Frustrating!

SHOWS

Ch. Laevateinn (3yo, Sleipnir x Dixie Love) finished third in the G1 Suburban Handicap.

OFF THE BOARD

Extol (2yo, What’s Debatable x Highland Treasure) finished 8th in his maiden.
GCh. Cuchulain (5yo, Irish River x Au Naturelle) finished 11th in the G1 International Stakes.  He may make the swap to hurdles - he needs two stakes wins of any level to get stud qualified, and he just isn’t performing as well this year…
