Nice show for the 2yos who seem to be running a bit better now. and very pleased with Critical Victory’s win, although in a low value maiden his 18.5 length win gives me hope for the future. (or are the distances random/meaningless?)

In other words, ideally horses would only win by 5+ lengths if they were insanely more talented on the day than the rest of the field, which - I think - is usually not the case. The race code is several thousand lines, though, so what it chooses to do on a given day can be a bit of a mystery.
