Really good week.
Make A Spectacle was 8th in her NW2.
Over the Rainbow won her NW2 against the boys.
Starling was 3rd in his NW3.
Ring of Smoke, back from an injury, was 2nd against the boys in her OA.
Swan Song won her OA against the boys.
Sludge won her OA.
Lonely Ness was 4th in her maiden.
Elgin was 7th in his maiden and came home with a minor injury.
Cleopatra’s Demand was 3rd in her NW1.
Joey the Giant was 6th in his OA.
Washingtonian was 2nd in his NW3.
Celtic Cross won her OA.
Buckets of Rain was 4th in her OA against the boys.
Ask Directions won her ungraded stakes against the boys. Scarecrow was 8th in the same race.
Clarity of Night won her Gr. 1 against the boys.
Fiery Foxx was 2nd in her Gr. 1.
Really, really good week.
Sent 5 out, and 3 did well at least:
There were no wins, sadly.
4YO [color=red]Mango Frappe (x Sunday Silence) finished 2nd in her NW3. I pulled her off my auction list at the last second due to sentiment, so I’m happy to see her perk up and respond in this way.
3YO homebred [color=blue]Imprimis (x King David) continues to defy his name (which means ‘in first place’) by remaining a maiden, but at least he loves placing consistently. Another second place finish, this time in his starter allowance.
The highlight of our day was probably our 2YO colt, [color=blue]Ducati (x Magic Cross), finishing 3rd in his first stakes race, the G3 Flash Stakes. He finished behind the very nice Boo Radley and Nightwatchman, who are both worthy opponents, so I am not at all disappointed in this.
The other two were way off the board this time out.
Not too bad a day.
Blaze of the Soul won her NW3.
Affenliebe finally got her 10th start and is able to join the broodmare band. She signed off with a 5th in her NW3.
Redheaded Princess finished 4th in the Moyglare Stakes and heads home for a rest.
Nice.
Our 2yo colt [color=blue]Gold Tic by Point Given (S), out of Flash Photography (S), finished 3rd/12 this time, in his first open allowance. He did earn higher speed figures before.
And we just had to claim [color=blue]Garito for his Spanish name. It means “night club”, “joint” or “gambling house”. Unfortunately he finished dead last in his claimer but he still has some to grow… although he’s from february
His dam is multiple stakes placed and has a speed record in steeplechasing. His dad, Tiznow, doesn’t have any stakes winners yet. It seems that it will take some patience with this boy but let’s hope that he’s worth it.
Quite good day for us. No stakes entries.
Wins:
[color=red]Magick Symbol (2yo, Cryptic Ballad) in a NW1.
[color=blue]Damon Bradley (2yo, No Duplicate) in a NW2.
[color=red]Gift of Gold (2yo, Giant’s Causeway) in a NW3. She’s 3 for 3.
[color=red]Mount St. Helens (Ring of Fire) in an allowance.
Places:
[color=blue]Blood Magic (2yo, Candidate) in a NW1.
[color=blue]As You Like (2yo, As You Wish) in a maiden.
The other three were off the board.
Not sure how we managed it, but our two stakes runners did much better than everyone else.
[color=blue]A Knight’s Tale ran 2nd/7 in his NW2. This was his first attempt over 10f and considering he only lost by a nose to a horse who is 2 for 2 this year, I think we’re on to something! Also in the race was [color=red]As You See, who was also trying 10f+ for the first time; she finished 4th.
[color=red]Ekosian managed a 3rd/6 in an OA. She really likes third this year, which is a touch aggravating but hey, it’s money in the bank.
Stakes highlights:
[color=blue]Eteelya (3yo, A.P. Indy) made his stakes debut and ran 2nd/10 in the G2 Finesse Juvenile. We claimed him in April for just 5k, so we’re extremely excited!
We took a chance and shipped [color=blue]War Letters (2yo, Nightfight) off to England for the G1 National Stakes. He finished a very happy 3rd/10.
Our other 6 horses finished 6th or worse.
Well we sent out 11 and came home with 12, claiming 3yo The Councelor (point given)
[color=red]Raptor Romance (GDR)was second in an NW-2
[color=red]Artists Studio was 4th in her OA
[color=blue]Highland Velvet was 4th in his OA
[color=blue]The Counselor finished 5th in the claiming race
And highlight of the day
[color=blue]Tomahawks winning the G-2 finesse stakes by 1/2 length!
He came out of the 10th PP,running behind the leader to 10f, took the lead to 14f, and fought to the finish to win. What is so amazing to me is he was kinda iffy. A claimer who was a mystery,so jump trials said he loved it, so I switched him. Then no more races in aus and I couldn’t decide to sell or pay to ship him elsewhere. Well obviously the change in continent and lengths suits him! coming right off the plane he ran 3rd, and now after resting a bit he wins! So glad I took a chance on him, I’ve not had a good distance SC colt since Miss Lonelyhearts.
Turns out I had a stable full of talented steeplechasers, and I had no idea until the gift of jump trials.
I switched [color=red]Eloquence from flat to steeplechasing in a 7.5f NW3 Allowance for 4yo+ (SC), and she LOVED it, placing 1st/7. Turns out I do have winners in my stable, I was just too scared to make take the risk of changing to steeplechasing for any of them.
Jump trials are saving my stable.
