Not too bad. We sent out 18 and 7 came back with checks. Most of our 2yo’s flunked.
2yo
[color=blue]War Letters (Nightflight) won his NW2 over dirt against a full field.
[color=blue]Kindred Romance (Gunningdownromance) managed a 4th/14 in his debut in a NW1.
[color=red]Irish Miss and [color=green]Spirit of Autumn finished 2nd and 3rd/6 in an OA. It was just a little too long for Irish Miss.
[color=blue]Red Dog and [color=red]On Dove’s Wings ran 2nd and 3rd/6 in their NW3. Red Dog really surprised me since he has yet to show a liking for turf, but apparently if there’s a lot of ground to cover, the surface doesn’t matter!
Finally, the big highlight of the day was [color=blue]Glorioso winning the G1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic. Lets hope he can keep it up!
Finally a week worth writing about.
Fiery Foxx won her NW1 today. She’s going to have an awesome season, I think. She’s unbeaten on both the dirt and the turf.
Desertification was a disappointing 8th.
Clarity of Night was 3rd against the boys in her NW3.
Initforthelonghaul seems to be over the hill. She finished 9th in her OA. Stablemate Joey the Giant beat her–marginally–by finishing in 7th place.
All the Right Move and Capricious One went 2-4 in their OA.
Fabulously High was a disappointing 6th in her OA.
Cleopatra’s Demand won her maiden.
Jester’s Crown was a respectable 3rd against the boys.
Pearls of Wisdom had an unexpected win against the boys in her NW3. Stable mate Washingtonian was 4th.
Ring of Smoke was 2nd in her NW3
Laird’s Own was 4th against the boys.
Stakes races were either awesome or sucky.
Awesome:
Daytona Beach and Toast of the Town went 1-2 in the Gr. 3 Citgo Distaff Turf Mile
It’s a Girl and Soupy went 1-4 in the Gr. 1 Humana Distaff
Light of Ceres, the shocker of the day, won the Gr. 2 Pillar Steeplechase
Sweet as Honey and Reprise went 4-5 in Gr. 1 Woodford Reserve Classic
Sucky:
Chance of Rain and Bandit’s Love went 6-8 in the Gr. 1 Kentucky Oaks
Lonely Victor, unsurprisingly, finished 2nd to last in the Kentucky Derby.
Bit of a blah day really, 2 from 5 on the board.
[color=red]Kingston Cara won her NW2 against the boys and [color=red]Send Me Flowers finished 3rd in her OA. The other three did nothing
Blah only 2 paychecks , my 2yos are being stubborn.
3yo In The FastLane finished 2nd in a maiden for fillies
And Sheza firework(chivalry) finished 4th in her NW-1
What’s my motive finished well for a paycheck in his debut. Slew So Fine… not so much. I’ll take it since I was never that great at training ponies.
Yay!
So-so day for us.
Wins:
[color=blue]Fly Away Home (2yo, Irish River) broke his maiden in a NW1.
[color=red]Brightest Light (Akhetnaten) in a NW3.
Places:
[color=blue]Into the Light (Strike It Rich) in a NW2.
[color=blue]Jacksonian (Dark Continent) in a NW1.
[color=red]Morgan le Fay (Highland Wizard) in the Pillar Steeplechase.
Show:
[color=red]Can’t Fool Me (2yo, Foolhardy) in a NW2.
Fourths:
[color=blue]Whatchagonnado (Giant’s Causeway) in a maiden.
[color=red]Cuckoo (Foolhardy) in the Citgo Distaff Turf Mile.
[color=red]Evensong (War Chant) in the Henry S. Clark Stakes.
Major congrats to [color=blue]Von Lichtenstein on his Derby win!
Also congrats to [color=blue]Slew O’Scots’ son Painted Raven on his second stakes win!
Congrats to Von L in the Derby. Great race.
Sponsored just didn’t fire like anticipated and finished 3rd in the derby.
Highlight:
Nightfight fillies , Fightin’ The Smoke and Black Heartbreak went 1 and 2 in the oaks.
Also, congrats to War Letters. Nightfight is a happy daddy.
Nightlit Haze is entered in the Gr. 2 Nassau County Breeders’ Cup (fingers crossed she keeps up her refound stride)
Mixed results today:
First off, our 4YO stallion, [color=blue]Triomphe (x Magic Glory), won his OA. He’s proving to be consistant on both surfaces, and racks up INCREDIBLE speed factors. I will definitely be scouting a stakes start for this boy soon - after all, he’s 1/2 to MSW GCh. A Pharoah’s Victory. Meanwhile, he’s headed back to the farm for a much deserved vacation.
4YO homebred, [color=green]Notmyfirstrodeo (x Temptation), made the switch to steeplechasing, and WON his claimer. Thank goodness he stays with us - I’m excited to see how he does for the rest of his SC career.
2YO homebred, [color=red]Singsong (x Rahy) finished 2nd again in her second ever start - this time against all fillies. I’m excited to see how this filly matures. She is the first foal from her dam, our stakes winning Ch. Keria Toon…and as we own all her offspring to date, this is even more exciting.
Our 3YO homebred [color=red]Girlfight (x Nightfight) seems to FINALLY be finding her stride - she finished 3rd in her maiden (her best ever finish with her highest ever speed factor) after we took the whip from the jockey. Apparently she likes to be reasoned with.
2YO [color=red]Montalvo (x Point Given) was 4th in her maiden - same as last time. It was a full field both times, though, so that still looks pretty promising, especially for a $1,000 purchase.
There were several 5th places:
2YO [color=red]Nicole’s Majic (x A.P. Indy) - who earned one of the highest speed factors today
3YO homebred [color=red]With A Fleurish (x Gimme A Shot) - my fault for jumping her to OA right after breaking her maiden
3YO [color=red]A.P. Stoli (x Stressed) in her maiden - her best ever finish
The rest…blah.
