5/05

Congratulations to @Firefly for winning the Derby! With a horse we briefly owned, named, then sold as a weanling haha. We are very happy with Pest’s 3rd in the Derby, and to see a Straticus son run 4th.

About fell out of my seat when I saw this. To say I’m thrilled is an understatement! My team has been running crummy races on the whole recently, but it’s nice to see they still know how to put on a show when it matters. XD

3(3)-1(1)-1(1)-0-0 $1,280,000

Wins:
Ch. Novelist (3yo, Unabridged) in the Kentucky Derby (Gr. 1) - I bought Novelist purely for his name. (I’m a freelance writer/editor and have written a couple self-published novels in my life.) Entered him in the Derby purely because I have never run a horse in the Derby before and wanted to take a shot at it. This is Novelist’s first stakes win, but he now has all the G1 requirements for stud qualification, so maybe, just maybe, we can convince him to keep up this trend. XD

Places:
Follow the Stars (3yo, Carrowmore) in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (Gr. 1) - Not bad for a horse who has never won a race. Entered purely based on what I saw in his last race. Not at all disappointed.

Also Rans:
Classic Slew (3yo, Von Lichtenstein) 8th in the Kentucky Derby (Gr. 1) - Not really surprised by this result. Classic Slew ran in the Derby Trial less than a month ago and I wasn’t sure if he would rebound in time to keep up with the challenges of the Derby. He’ll get a nice, long rest and try a stakes again next month.

Just two out and they would have preferred to stay in it seems.

Fourths:
Waffles (2yo, Devil’s Walk) in a NW1 Allowance - This is actually our first 2yo debut, so not too bad

Also Rans:
Blu Haze (3yo, Prince Of Wonder) 11th in the Henry S. Clark Stakes (Ungr.)

Pretty good day, congratulations to Firefly on winning the derby. Pleased with Bold Bridge’s run in second which was an improved run. My two in the oaks ran very well and hopefully these three will be able to get some stakes wins in the near future :crossed_fingers:

Kind of a dismal day overall with one bright spot: A Smart Choice (2yo, Candidate) was 1st in a NW1 Allowance and remains the golden child in this year’s 2-year-old crop. His older brother was a dud, but his mother was a graded stakes winner for us over jumps, so I’m glad he’s running well.

FlightofthePhoenix (6yo, Major’s Flight) ran 5th in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (Gr. 1), right in the middle of the pack. Kind of a bummer, but he’s shipping home to rest for a couple weeks and will hopefully be back in time for a stakes in late May/early June. He’s been back-to-back for the past few weeks, so he’s probably tired.

Just posting my stakes races for today so y’all can giggle along with me. Destined to be the clean up crew today (sweeping the track after everyone else finished, not cleaning up in the way that would refer to winning).
