Not a bad week at all! Some pretty high performers. Some pretty eh.
New purchase Elven Star was 4th in her NW2.
All the Right Move, coming back from an injury, was 4th in her NW3.
This I Believe was off the board in her OA.
Long Island 88 was 3rd in her OA. Capricious One was right behind her for 4th.
Sweet as Honey and Forbidden City went 1-2 their OA.
New purchase Cleopatra’s Demand was 3rd in her maiden; Deadly Beauty was off the board in the same race.
Take It in Stride was 3rd in his NW2. Black Cherry was off the board in the same race.
Joey the Giant and Initforthelonghaul bombed their OA. I really don’t want to talk about this one. Sigh.
Higher Agenda was 5th in her ungraded stakes.
Hidden Silver was 3rd in her first stakes start.
Toast of the Town was 3rd against the boys.
Swan Song was 3rd in her stakes. She really enjoys showing this season. 4 starts, and 4 3rd place finishes.
Ask Directions won her first stakes races. Her sire, Dark Continent, has now produced 20% SWs.
Highlight of the day was the last race on the card. Chance of Rain won the Gr. 1 Thousand Guineas and her stablemate Bandit’s Love was right behind. Reprise, unfortunately, was off the board.
21 starts with 14 on 4th or better. Not a bad day indeed!
Only had one out today, but he did really well, winning the second race of his career.
[color=blue]Del Mar Menace a stallion we switched to steeplechasing after discovering he loves to jump (thank you Shanti for jump trials!) won his 18f NW3 Allowance. The length of the race was also a test for him. He’s only ever been in sprint races, so for him to win at this distance makes me think we’ve finally found his niche. Very proud of our boy today!
Eh not a big payday and some disappointments but got a surprise when a created filly finally won a race since she’s just been flirting with even coming in in the money since last yr.
[color=red]The Sting was the only filly in her race and she wired it 7.5 furlongs NW1 ! 3yo+, [color=red]1st
she is on the sale page with a couple of geldings, broodmares, and a youngster.
[color=red]High Wire Dancing continues to confound as she ran [color=red]5th in a 4+, all fillies
[color=blue]Flash Over (9th) and [color=green]Viva Las Vegas (5th) in a 5.5 allowance was too short for both of them
[color=blue]Epic Montage (7th) and [color=green]Meetmeinseattle (4th) In a 6f allowance was short for both, but Seattle managed to win some money anyway
And last the filly[color=red] Artists Studio in a 5f claimer, we not only claimed her for $10k but she finished [color=red]2nd we claimed her for her bloodline as we bought her grandsire(killing time), and he retired before breeding any of my mares, I’ve bought his bloodline over the years to fill in for him.
Today was a mixed bag of results, but honestly it was pretty much what I expected
Plagioclase (Crystal Rainbow) finished 5th in his SC start. SC is still new for him, hopefully some equipment experiments will help him to perk up
Avondale (Irish River) finished 2nd in a NW1 allowance. Definately an improvement for this boy, hopefully he can continue to improve
Daydreamer ran 9th… blah
Princess Pride ran 12th… Double blah
The Duke (Sneak Peek) ran 4th in a NW3 turf. This was his longest race this season so not too bad
Angelius (I’m Your Angel) ran 1st in a NW3 allowance. Very happy with that, this makes 2 wins in a row. May be time to start considering stakes races
Bamboo Diva (Starz N’ Stripes) ran 3rd in an allowance. It was a bit short for her liking, I think she would have ran even better if the race were longer
Lumberjack (I’m Your Angel) ran 2nd in an allowance. Not bad but I know he can run better, he has in stakes races in the past
I’m so excited about all my Angel babies (and everyone else’s Angel foals!). They have all been running so well, and fairly consistently. Make me so proud!
[color=blue]Smokin’ Star finished 1st/10 in open allowance on turf, by 2 1/2 lengths. His dad, Cigar, is now gold rated.
[color=red]Ch. Private Party finished 2nd/5 in a starter allowance, which looks below her abilities, but the race was really fast and competitive.
[color=red]Ch. Love Signal made her steeplechase debut in ungraded Stymie Handicap and finished in the middle of the pack. Her sire, GCh. High On Love, also earned a gold rank recently. She should have some talent for jumping after him.
Two out in the same race [color=red]Bockatay came 6th, I think 10f was a bit long of her. [color=red]Dark Charm, however, seems to have found her legs at last, breaking her maiden by a nose.
I’m with you, Shanthi. I should probably learn my lesson and avoid the stakes races, but whenever I get close to swearing them off, someone finds their way to the front of the pack, and that paycheck sure is dazzling…
Sent out 6, with only one to really mention:
4YO [color=blue]TRIOMPHE (x Magic Glory) was 3rd in his NW3. Not bad - we’re still working with him, though.
5YO [color=red]TWIRLAWAY (x Whirlaway) at least brought a paycheck, with a 5th in the G2 Frank E. Kilroe Mile. And it was a close race…
4YO [color=red]AFTERGLOW (x Affirmed) finished 10th in the G2 Winning Edge Stakes - sadly, she was able to move up to 3rd near the end, but fizzled out in the final furlong. Apparently 12f is too far beyond her stamina. Darn.
Also ran today: [color=red]I’m Feelin’ Lucky (recent purchase: over the hill and/or out of shape), Smiling Bubbles (may be past her peak…), and With A Fleurish (3YO still finding her legs).
