3/22

Decent day here.

Lad’s Lady a claimer that I got a while ago went out in her 1st race for me today. She came in forth, but i wasn;t expecting much as I have yet to figure her out.

Dardanelle had a tough start to the year when she was overheated in her workout, but she came back 110% and she proved it today by winning her open allowance against the boys by 5 3/4 furlongs!! So proud of her. Probably another allowance and then a stakes for her (or a stakes 1st  if there’s a decent one on the east coast soon).

Sudden Flame continues to baffle me. I think he hates his jockey and his equiptment. So we’ll change that for sure after a disheartening 5th/6.

American Made, sadly finished 5th in his 1st stakes race, but I think it was due to him having a jockey he had never worked with in his life. So it was a decent race for him not knowing the jock.

It was a great birthday present today when I logged on and saw that I got a claimer!

I picked up [color=red]Rain in the Desert, a five year old created mare from a claiming race today.  The truth is, I really just liked her name  She’s on the older side but I figured that if nothing else I could run her through the end of the year and then send her to the broodmare barn.

[color=blue]Gryfalcon was a bit disappointing, he ran 5/6 in his allowance.  It might have been too short a race for him, we’ll stretch him out a bit next time.

Two out today. [color=red]London Eye managed a 3/6th in her Allowance which makes me happy. She’s been in a slump lately and I think the extra week off at the farm helped boost her moral. Hopefully she can keep up placing in the money. Also got our claim on a big, beautiful 17.3hh monster of a girl [color=red]Tiger Queen. She came 2nd in her first race. At five she might be close to retiring but we’ll let her race out this year to see how she does.

We had the whole stable except for one horse run today. It was a perfect race meet for a lot of my horses.

[color=green]Skipsalacious ran in a 11.5f NW1 Allowance for 4yo+ with six competitors, including himself. He placed a decent 4th out of the total field. Not bad, had a paycheck.

[color=blue]Miracle On Ice placed 4th in a 15.5f Allowance for 4yo+ with twelve horses, including himself and stablemate [color=green]Tolateyouloose. Tolateyouloose placed 7th. Neither of them did bad compared to their usual performance, so I’m pretty sure they both like that distance. But, maybe I’ll cut it down a little bit for Tolateyouloose.

[color=blue]Five Minutes Early and [color=blue]Pontif raced in a 8f Maiden for 3yo+ with a total field of 12 runners. They placed 8th and 10th respectively. I’m not sure if these two are just immature or what. Their next race may be a claimer, or I may just keep tweaking at things and trying to figure out what they prefer (which may be to eat in a pasture!).

The two best performances of the day were in race 9f NW1 Allowance for 3yo+. In 3rd place came [color=blue]Kickstand Kelli who is a created half brother to broodmare. [color=blue]Wild Rebel was the performance of the day, taking home the win. This is Rebel’s second win out of six total races, and he has yet to place anywhere below 4th. I’m quite proud of him; we might have another MSW to pull the weight of my stable around here! (No pressure, Rebel.)

My only racing mare, [color=red]Fall For Me, has yet to prove anything on the track. With two wins out of 35 races, I’m beginning to lose hope for her running career. She placed dead last in a field of 8 horses. Maybe she’d prefer the fences, I’m not sure. I couple more experiments and she’s going to be switched to steeplechasing.

My only steeplechaser, [color=green]Outoftheballpark ran in a 11.5f Starter Allowance for 4yo+ with 6 total racers. He placed 4th out of all of them. I’m not complaining, he’s beginning to improve.

Wow, to think that’s almost my whole stable out in one race day! Good job, gang!  ;D

Heh, that’s fun to do, huh?

It was a fairly good day, here.

A.P. Cigar placed 3rd in an allowance, the best he’s done in a long time! It’s good to see. He’s so close to getting Champion status that it’s been really frustrating that he hasn’t been doing better. Cat Burglar unfortunately placed 11th in the same race, petering out early. So no more mega-distances for him…

Mercury Rising was 2nd in her allowance. God, I love this old sprinting mare. Can’t wait to see her babies.

And Colors Of Fire? Continues to be awesome. He got his third win in a row today in an open allowance. Oh, and thats Champion Colors Of Fire to you, now. He will go home and be treated like royalty and then come back for his first Stakes start under my colors in April. Can’t wait.

Master & Commander
was disappointingly last in the same race. If only I could figure out what he wants from life…

And, Limite Du Retour was also last, in the ungr. Santa Paula Stakes. It’s time to give up on Santa Anita and ship him home to look at buttercups and rainbows for a while until he feels like hitting the track again.

NCh. Sleipnir ran much better than he had been his previous two starts in which he ran dismally. Today he went out in the GI Victoria Racing Club Stakes, a sprint which he hasn’t done in a while. He ran a good race though he never did challenge the winner he finished a game 3rd/10. Looks like he appreciated the change in distance and a new jockey. We’ll look for another sprint when he’s ready and see where he takes us.

GCh. Townsend Secret ran today in the Ungraded Crystal Water Handicap, a sprint on the turf which he hasn’t shown much aptitude for, he likes longer distances. He surprised me though, coming in a strong 2nd/10.

Congrats on yet another win with Colors Of Fire Nan! He’s one happy horse!

For me, pretty good day overall.

Lonely Lady got a 5th in her allowance. Never really perked up, needs something to spice her up a bit…not sure what.

Valentina Glow put in a repsectable 3rd in her first SC race. She has such strong SC lines I decided I was wasting time not putting her in one…hope I made the right decision.

After being plagued with injuries during workouts since the BC Juvenile Fillies(yes,I’ve been trying to race her for 5 months!) I was finally able to get Starz Aflame healed up and happy, get some workouts in injury free and send her off in an open allowance for 3yo fillies. She won it pretty easily, hopefully I can keep her sound to get some more starts, she appears to have talent. Her full sister NCh.Gazelle has never had soundness issues so its really surprised me that Aflame is such a delicate thing! Hopefully they’re otherwise similar!

Two went out in the Crystal Water H., one came back with a check. Rodeo didn’t do too badly, finishing a respectable 4th against colts. Maybe against girls she can win a stakes. Worth Her Oats broke early, led the boys on a merry chase before tiring and finishing 9th. Need to figure out how to get her to use her speed without tiring herself out… consistently.

Gazelle
went out in the Santa Paula, after a spell at the farm and didn’t do too badly, finishing 2nd. I don’t know why she can’t win when she races the boys, but she can’t even though she’ll set speed records against the girls that are faster than many of the boys. Intimidation? She needs to get over it.

Cross Examination ended the day on a very good note when he won the GI Victoria Racing Club Stakes…wiring it in fact. Very proud of him, its his first GI win.

Four runners out today and results went as expected, just not quite how we expected. I figured that we had a good chance of a winner and two places from the four runners, but thought that Scenic Adventure had the best chance of gaining a win. He finished a disappointing 4th/6 in his NW1 Allowance.

If Medieval Time finished anywhere but last in his Claiming Race, we’d have been ecstatic, the best we could have hoped for was that he might squeak out a 5th. Unfortunately, he finished where we expected, 6th/6. He appears to be over the hill.

The surprise of the day was Chrome It who romped home in her Starter Allowance. She has been running pretty well this year and, while we thought that she would be there or there abouts at the finish, the way she raced away with the win was very pleasantly surprising.

Our last runner of the day was In Thy Name who finished 3rd/6 in her NW3 Allowance.

All-in-all, a very satisfying day at the races (although my picks for the handicapping competition today were pretty bad).

One out today. [color=green]Worth A Look ran a nice 2nd in his allowance. He ran gamely with the winner most of the way, then tired at the end. Considering he hasn’t ran in quite awhile, we’re very happy with his effort. Looks like the ol’ boy still has some spunk in him.

One out for us today

Absolute Addiction was coming off a layoff and after not having raced for 4 months (exactly) he came in a decent 5th.  Not bad.  Would anyone be interested in leasing him?  Just let me know.

We also claimed Silent Incantation who won his race.  He is now undefeated in SC races after making the switch the time before last.  Lots of hope for this guy
