2yo's for 2022

Actually did fairly well with last year’s choices. My choices last year: [color=blue]Caleuche is SP and entered in the BC Juvenile Turf, [color=blue]Downfall recently won an ungraded stakes and is entered in the BC Juvenile, [color=red]Hard Candy is a multi-winner and ran 4th in an ungraded stakes, [color=blue]Jawbreaker just multi-placed and now at home for the rest of the year, [color=red]Lingerie has won 3/4 starts including a G1 win and is entered in the BC Juvenile Fillies, and [color=blue]Lord of Misrule is a multi-winner and ran 4th in an ungraded stakes recently.

For 2022 I have my eyes on…

[color=red]Cider (French Ruby x Midnight Return). Half to MSW Ch. Owl Hunt and MSP Ch. Rosette.

[color=blue]Draconian Love (Von Lichtenstein x June My Love). Sire has been doing fairly well with 41% winners and 1 SP in his first crop. Draconian Love is the first colt for my favorite mare, June My Love, who has produced all winners inluding SP Juniper Tree and G1W Lingerie.

[color=red]Flattery (Mr. Prospective x Meant to Be). Half to 7 winners including 2 SW’s and 4 SP’s. From the final crop of gold-ranked Mr. Prospective. Meant to Be tends to throw early bloomers.

[color=blue]Kingsfoil (Worthy Victory x Coronet). Half to Lord of Misrule, a SW and 2 SP’s. Worthy Victor has turned into an extremely nice sire already with a MSW and 4 SW’s from his first crop – including my own Hardy Candy mentioned above.

[color=blue]Lancaster (Unabridged x Cadbury). Oldest foal for his dam, so hard to say what he’ll do but the damsire is Highland Wizard and Cadbury is half to MSW GCh. Prince of Thieves, 2 silver-ranked half-sisters and a third half-sister whose only racing foal is a SW. I’ve always had great luck with Unabridged foals.

[color=blue]Novacaine (TakeMeToHollywood x Hot Nurse). Second foal out of MSW/millionaire Hot Nurse, whose oldest foal has hit the board all 5 times this year at 2 (and not bad given the sire is my old boy Joyeux Oiseau, who admittedly wasn’t the best). Bred on the same Sire/BM Sire cross as MSW’s Ch. Spamalot and WCh. Toast of the Town.

[color=red]Voices (Express Yourself x Quiet Silhouette). Half to 7 winners including 2 SW’s and 1 SP, full sister to SW/MSP Ch. Ni Quito Ni Pongo. Gold-ranked sire.

I’m not sure what happened to my last year’s post… but I am happy about the older guys. I keep [color=red]Ch. Puede Que Haya, who is the only one to continue her damline at Clicker Lab. [color=red]La Chunga is still good as a 3yo although she didn’t win even once this year… I’m not sure if created [color=red]Meva Nit d’Estiu is any good, but I keep her because I like her name and looks :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t participate last year (at least I don’t think I did), but I’m interested in having a reminder of who I was really watching come next year this time.

That said, I’m both looking forward to and dreading Mr. Prospective’s last crop hitting the track.  I have a number of babies who will debut next year.  Here’s hoping that one of the boys from his current 2yo crop or upcoming yearlings will go on to be studified.

On a brighter note, Pay the Boatman’s first crop will hit the track in 2018, so I’m very intrigued to see how they’ll do.  Boatman was my first stud-qualified homebred, so it’s a sentimental hope if nothing else!

As for specific kids, there are a few…

[color=blue]Sour Patch Kid is probably the most well bred and may turn out to be a complete flop because of it.  That’s breeding for you!  He’s from Foolhardy’s last crop and out of platinum-ranked Cherry Flavoured (dam of FFCh. Black Cherry and several other Ch-ranked kids).

[color=red]Vivien Leigh, (named for the actress who played Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind) another pretty breeding, likely won’t debut until she’s 3.  She’s bred for jumps with FFCh. TakeMeToHollywood as her sire, and our own 2-time award winner ICh. Date With Destiny as her dam.  Destiny has produced a stakes winner already, with her 3yo looking poised to follow suit.

[color=blue]Righteous Man is the first colt from platinum-ranked In Thy Name, who wasn’t stellar on the track but certainly has been as a broodmare.  She’s produced 4 stakes winners (3 MSWs) from 5 foals to race.  Righteous is half to NCh. Holy Warrior and GCh. When You Were Mine.

[color=blue]Edelweiss is NCh. Von Lichtenstein x NCh. Highland Sage and 1/2 to a number of good horses, including award-winner NCh. Early Spring.  I have a stakes placed 2yo from the same sire, so perhaps lightning will strike twice!

It’s pretty safe to say I’m looking forward to all of them racing, as more than a few tend to surprise me every year.

[color=red]Here Comes Trouble (Foolhardy) is the only one of the six we highlighted last year to show any talent so far. She

I wanted to come back and mention how my 2020 choices faired in their 2yo season, overall! This post was made before the BC and there have been a few exciting finishes since: Caleuche (Animal Kingdom) WON the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, Downfall (V is for Victory) WON the BC Juvenile and wrapped up the year with a 4th in the G2 Remsen, Lingerie (Foolhardy) WON the BC Juvenile Fillies and finished 3rd in the G3 Valley Stream Stakes before heading home, and Hard Candy (Worthy Victor) ran 4th in the Ungr. East View Stakes.

So who is ready to completely obliterate their OTB % for the year?  ::)

Ha, yeah. I am not doing to badly this year. Time to change that with these silly 2yo!

I like don’t even want to start racing my 2yos because I’m actually doing pretty well this year! 50% OTB yayyyy!

My OTB figures are so low the 2yos aren’t going to spoil anything!

10+ fields of neurotic, untried green 2 year olds. What could go wrong?  ::)

A few of those will have two of mine duking it out for last…

Good Luck everyone! (We might need it!). Our babies debut on Saturday so we can rest easy for a couple more days!

I don’t know why my post in this topic disappeared? But I have five 2yo’s entered for tomorrow, probably five too many…

I have 10 entered tomorrow and 7 Saturday because I’m crazy.

I have 3 entered for Saturday who I hope will at least manage to run forward instead of backward. XD

I have way too many entered with more to come.  Hopefully they’ll all debut before the end of May, with the exception of the shrimpy ones and the jumpers.  No idea what I was thinking in breeding bigger and bigger crops.  Just gonna wave to the money as it gallops away lol.

I have 4 entered for tomorrow and 3 for Saturday and I’m currently regretting my whole life choices right now LOL

I’ve had to stop myself from scratching them.

We only have 1 2YO runner tomorrow, and that only because he was already at Woodbine and we thought we might as well give it a shot. In past years, our 2YO’s have had a tendency to finish closer to last than first in their first races, so, if he is going to continue that trend, we might as well get it over with quickly!!!

It will take a while to sort all of our 2YO’s due to losing all my files when my laptop died. We had worked out which ones we were going to enter in which race, all the way to the end of April. Now we’re going to have to start all over again, so we probably won’t have that many 2YO runners this month.

Gee’s your better than me Lewis, I plan out my older horses but the young ones I try to find one that’s training ok and throw it in, hoping for the best!

Andy

Hmm… seems like I didn’t participate last year. Whoops!

This is an exciting year because FFCh. Black Cherry’s and ICh. City Upon a Hill’s foals hit the track. This is also High Chance’s last crop to start – so bittersweet in that respect.

With 92 2yos this year we have a lot to choose from.

[color=blue]As the Crow Flies (Blue Smoke x Ask Directions) is the 2nd foal to race of GCh. Ask Directions. Her dam, Ask DNA, has been a dynamo in the breeding shed and we’re hoping her daughter is the same. 3yo Let Me Be Frank (by Frankel) had a solid year as a 2yo, but seems to be struggling this year. I’ve been pleased with Blue Smoke as a sire, and I’m excited to have another foal by him to play with.

[color=blue]Billy Big Rigger (Away the Lads x Initforthelonghaul) is the third foal out of Initiforthelonghaul. 1/2 Sibs Trucker King and Haul Me Away have not performed up to expectations given their dam’s pedigree (daughter of Go For Glory), but I really love the name on this one.

[color=blue]Chosen (To Die For x ICh. Jester’s Crown) is the first foal to race out of a millionaire dam.

[color=blue]Cthulhu (Quarren x Toast of the Town) is the 2nd foal out of millionaire dam. Crown Fire, his only sibling to race, is stakes placed.

[color=blue]Dayton Accords (Long Live the King x Daytona Beach) is the 3rd foal out of a millionaire dam. Half to stakes-placed Stranger Danger.

[color=red]Dreams for Sale (High Chances x Perchance to Dream) is a sentimental favorite. Full sibling to Anarchy, whom I owned as a 5yo and was from HC’s first crop. I always wanted to see what he could’ve done during his peak years. With Dreams For Sale I get a chance.

[color=red]Laird Plateau (City Upon a Hill x Laird’s Own) is from City’s from crop and the first foal of his NCh. dam.

[color=red]Love is Kind (City Upon a Hill x Bandit’s Love) – Bandit’s Love and Laird’s Own raced together for me and would often go out in the same race. I’m really pleased that I (unintentionally) bred them to the same sire the same year. I’d be thrilled if their daughters did the same. (Makes race planning easy.)

[color=blue]Loving v. Virginia (Bernardini x Guilty of Love) – I love the name and he’s got none of the major bloodlines that I have in my stable. Would love to get him studified.

[color=red]Madame Pele (Quarren x Go For Glory) is the last foal that I own out of Go For Glory. She’s 1/2 to ICh. Demand the Best, WCh. Toast of the Town, NCh. Thank Goodness,  GCh. Aziraphale, Ch. Initforthelonghaul and Ch. Meet Your Maker. The name is special to me because Madame Pele was my first “good” horse in another SIM racing game I played. I’m hoping that this incarnation will be just as scrappy as her namesake.

[color=blue]Pass the Buck (Von Lichtenstein x Passin’ Sandi) is Sandi’s last foal. All his other siblings (all boys, sigh!) are stakes winners or better – Ch. Don’t Pass Go, GCh. It’s a Long Story, and Ch. Akamai.  I’m hoping one of them will get studified at some point.

[color=blue]Perseids (See the Stars x Chance of Rain) is Chance of Rain’s second foal. I’m glad I managed to snag a breeding to Sea the Stars before he retired.
