2yo's for 2020

They’re coming soon!

Strangely, I keep almost all of my last year’s picks.
[color=red]Ch. Lointaine is now 3yo and she’s a really good filly, with a nice rare lineage, by Octagonal and out of strong damline. [color=red]Lile has only started to figure out the game by finishing 2nd yesterday, [color=blue]Ch. El Padrino runs really well for Starfish, [color=blue]Don Galante is another late bloomer and [url=http://www.finalfurlong.org/viewhorse.php?horse=26335][color=blue]All

We didn’t do that well with our predictions from last year! 10 of our homebreds have won so far but six of those were babies we sold and they raced for other stables  ::) Of the four that did win for us, we only highlighted two of them in last year’s thread - [color=blue]Reign of Terror and [color=red]Somekindawonderful, both by Nightfight. Of our non-homebreds, best runner was [color=red]Ch Pieces of Eight who finishes the year as a stakes winner with a few stakes places as well.

This year we’re looking forward to seeing the following babies hit the track:

[color=red]Ambition (High Chances x GCh Firmament). Bred by Cricket Hill. Half to four runners of which three are stakes winners and the other is stakes placed.

[color=red]Back Into The Blue (Blue Smoke x NCh Highland Sage). Homebred. Half to several stakes performers including MSWs Ch Major’s Insight and GCh Early Spring.

[color=blue]Break the rules (Blue Smoke x Question Authority). Homebred. Half to ICh Quarren.

[color=blue]Cider With Rosie (Frankel x Rosebud). Homebred. Last foal from his exceptional dam. Half to ICh What’s Your Point.

[color=blue]Forthright (Foolhardy x Gilded Sky). Homebred. Half to studs Hidden Destiny and Al Mundhir.

[color=blue]Illustrious (Magic Glory x Just Danzig). Homebred. Half to GCh Danzintothetop.

[color=red]Truly Scrumptious (What’s Your Point x Just A Fox) Homebred. Half to SWs ICh Sionnach, GCh LLwynog, Ch Kingston Coup an Ch Just Like Ice.

Last year’s predictions weren’t terrible, especially not compared to the year before! From the five horses I had highlighted, two became stakes placed: [color=blue]Johann Bach and [color=red]Rosette. Both are winners and ran 2nd in a G1. Of my other 3 highlights, only one has broken their maiden.

In terms of entire homebred crops, we’ve had just 17 winners from 38 runners and 2 stakes winners. Of the 46 foals we bred, we sold 27.

For this year we’re most excited about:

[color=blue]Decorated (In the Navy x Passing Fancy). Homebred. His half-brother, Divine Comedy, won 2 of 2 starts this year before being sidelined with an injury. His pedigree combines Whirlaway and Man O’War.

[color=red]Marseilles (Oscillation x French Resistance). Homebred. Half to French Revolution, our only G1 winning 2yo this year.

[color=blue]Postmaster (Foolhardy x French Kiss). Bred by Vaucluse Farm. Out of MSW ICh. French Kiss, winner of 11 stakes races. She in turn has two gold-ranked parents.

[color=red]Tendresse (Dark Continent x June My Love). Homebred. Out of my favorite mare and first MSW. Her half-sister, Juniper Tree, hasn’t been doing well this year but she’s by Joyeux Oiseau whose successful foals seem to be chasers, and Dark Continent and June My Love both share the same favorite running surface/distance whereas June and Joy are total opposites. I’m hoping the match is a good one.

[color=blue]Nexus (High Chances x Black Clouds). Homebred. Damsire is The Black, and half-sister is stakes placed with 2 wins from 3 starts this year (age 2).

Hmm… didn’t do too bad on picks for last year.

SWers: Aziraphale, It’s a Long Story (4 SWs!)
SPers: Algiers, Fable Spinner, Flirt, In the Long Run, The Road Not Taken
Multi-winners: Lord Love a Duck, I Spy
Maiden/winner: Cayuga, Mulligatawny
Surprises: Redacted (Candidate x Out of Tune), Many Moons Ago (Yes It’s Paddy x Saturnalia), J. Alfred Prufrock (I’m No Fool x Lone Star…SPed but still a maiden), Scuttled (Golden Text x Captain’s Folly), Fire in the Sky (Call to War x Firmament), Bridge to Nowhere (Unabridged x Spirit of Love)

Upcoming 2yos…

Colts
Drifting (High Chances x Daytona Beach), homebred. First foal of Millionaire-dam. Granddam is Midnight Danger §

Great Unknown (Blue Smoke x Kimazaan), last foal of dam. 1/2 to SW Ch. Shazam.

Jail House Snitch (Mantle of Power x Fingerprints), bred by Clover Springs. 1/2 to SPed Walk on Stars and Insider.

Trucker King (TakeMetoHollywood x Initforthelonghaul), homebred. First foal of MSW’ing dam, and first grand foal of blue-hen mare Go For Glory. 3/4s to WCh. Toast of the Town.

Fillies
Ask Around (High Chances x Ask DNA), homebred. 1/2 to GCh. Ask Directions, GCh. Ask for the Moon, and GCh Act the Fool. Especially excited because High Chances just recently retired.

Bloody Mary (Rock of Gibraltar x Killer Queen), homebred. First foal of SW’ing dam. Traces her granddam line back to NCh. Queen and Dream Skipper (G).

Callback (Frankel x Hope for the Best), homebred. First foal of SW’ing dam.

Down with the Ship (High Chances x Captain’s Folly), homebred. Really hopeful about this one, given how well her 1/2 brother Scuttled has run this year.

Fires on the Plain (High Chances x Light of Ceres), homebred. First foal of dam. Granddam is Seeing Starz§

Gangbaster (Foolhardy x Go For Glory), homebred. 1/2 to ICh. Demand the Best, WCh. Toast of the Town, NCh. Thank Goodness, Ch. Initforthelonghaul, Ch. Aziraphale and Meet Your Maker. 100% stakes winners from foals to race, all but one are multi-stakes winners. And with Foolhardy in the mix, you know this one is going to be special.

Highway to Hell (High Chances x Forgotten Road), homebred. 1/2 to The Road Not Taken, who has shown a lot of promise this year.

Take Me Home (Long Live the King x Swan Song), homebred. First foal of MSW’ing dam. Traces her line back to Black Swan (G).

Under Where? (Unabridged x Unnamed), homebred. Her dam hasn’t produced anything special, but I’m really liking Unabridged.

Woah… I guess I kept a lot of mares home for HC in 2018. I think this is the largest crop of his we’ve started since his first season.

I’ve been a dismal owner this year, so my two year olds only have a small handful of starts each.  Hopefully I can do better by next spring.

Anyhow, some of the highlights for next year include:

CANDID STAR - filly (Candidate x I’m a Star) - 1/2 to SW Stars Align & SP V is for Valiant
CHASING GOLD - filly (Witness x Olympic Gold) - 1/2 to MSW Olympic Torch & SW London Gala
FOREIGN DEBATE - colt (Lucky Streak x Fleur’s Debate) - 1/2 to MSW With A Fleurish & SW Mood Indigo
GHOSTHEART - colt (Ghostzapper x Heartless) - 1/2 to MSW Imperial Gesture & SW Alybama
JEWELED CROSS - filly (Magic Cross x Bold Jewel) - love the pedigree, 2nd foal from MSW mare
KERIAN IMAGE - filly (Witness x Keria Toon) - 1/2 to MSW Singsong, MSW Pistolwhip, & SW Iconic
KLONDIKE FINALE - filly (Witness x Klondike Nights) - 1/2 to MSW Coquette, MSW Allnighter II, & SW Khione
MARCH ON - filly (Strider x Madd Karol) - 3rd (live) foal from MSW mare
NAVAL PORT - colt (In The Navy x Kiasport) - 1/2 to MSW Sportsmanship & MSW Fool’s Errand
SONG OF TRUTH - filly (Witness x Sovereign Song) - 1/2 to MSW Sovereign Glory, MSW Brianza, SW Calla Lily, & SW Shoot The Singer
TREASURE HUNT - filly (Changeling x Highland Treasure) - 1/2 to MSW Worth A Treasure & MSW Such A Fool
UPSWING - colt (Drum Major x Uptown Girl) - 1/2 to MSW Queen Catarina, MSW Newyorknewyork, & SW Goodnight Saigon
WILD INFERNO - colt (Foolhardy x Twilight Embers) - 1/2 to MSW Fight The Twilight (at stud), SW Ciao Bella, SW Evening Prayer, & SP Crucifix

Haven’t done much with my poor horses but I’m hoping most of my 2YOs just need to grow up some more. Of the ones I thought were promising, one did turn out all right. Won a stakes, which I was hoping she’d do.

I don’t know if I can run all 43 of my 2020 2YOs so I’ll probably lease most of them out. But here are some of the ones I’m looking forward to racing starting next year:

[color=blue]Arkenstone (Karat x Vishnu): colt with routing turfers for parents. He’ll probably mature late like they did so I’m actually not expecting too much from him next year.

[color=red]Book of Amun-Ra (Golden Text x Not A Prospector): her sire’s a nice one so I’m excited.
[color=red]
Diamond In The Sky (Karat x Diamond Prospector)
: waited years to make this match happen.  Same inbreeding to Mr. Prospector as Book of Amun-Ra and has a decent female family behind her.
[color=blue]
Galaxy Guardian (Galaxy’s Zodiac x Egyptian Jazz)
: comes from a nice family and has a stakes-placed half sister.
[color=blue]
Lord Somerled (Carrowmore x Scotland’s Glory)
: almost scared to touch this horse lol. Pedigree is full of top-class runners and producers, including two crosses of CDC mare Lymerick.

[color=red]Red Sky Warning (In The Navy x Rainy Day Morning): cannot go wrong with the Sunset Beach family… which apparently she’s inbred to - sire and dam are out of RDC half-sisters.

[color=blue]Rhapsody in Gold (Karat x Sonatina): Half-brother to a graded stakes winner and his dam’s last foal for us - she died this year after producing a filly for another stable.

[color=red]Starfleet Captain (Karat x Fleet Hope): I love Fleet Hope. I expect this filly to be like her, Karat, and the aforementioned Arkenstone - a long-winded late bloomer.

[color=blue]Stellar Starbound (Galaxy’s Zodiac x What’s Honor): Honor finally produced a stakes winner this year so I have some hope for this colt.

Im excited about all of the Drummie babies starting :slight_smile:

I like him! I’m sending Easy Union to him! :slight_smile:

A few 2yo’s have started training and now I’m really excited for [color=red]Cherries Jubilee (Take Me Away x Cherry Cheesecake) who has been training like beast, all positive comments, and looking ready to go next month. Her older half-brother has been doing really well as a 3yo, too. The other children of the corn are being finicky.
