2019 How'd You Do?

After losing some high bids (and not spending a fortune), I think I’m done! I wasn’t very lucky in the Select Auctions before, but I have GCh. Embellished and Ch. Lointaine thanks to them, so it’s not bad.
This time I bought a broodmare and a 2yo filly.

[color=red]Ch. Portofino - 17.0h blue roan mare by WCh. Strider, out of NCh. Arda (What’s It Worth). Portofino is a stakes winner and mult. stakes placed; her best years were 2 and 3, but she won Gr. 3 stakes at four. Her dam, NCh. Arda is a multi-millionaire with three speed records on turf.
Price: $25,000.

[color=red]Cat’s Eye - 15.3h mahogany bay filly by WCh. Crystal Rainbow, out of Goldberry (NCh. Highland Wizard). She’s related to ICh. City Upon a Hill by the same sire/broodmare sire cross.
Price: $25,000.

We picked up five new ponies, all girls  ::) and are really pleased with the ones we’ve got. Three were on our original wish list, added one from the long list and one that wasn’t on either list but an closer inspection looks like she’ll fit well with our breeding programme.

[color=red]GCh Sekhmet is a 6yo daughter of Alley Cat out of the Gold ranked mare Sky Catcher. She was a multi Grade 1 winner on turf and finished a neck second to Quarren in the BC Turf as a 3yo. She also shares a granddam with Quarren in influential broodmare Silver Skies. Sekhmet is already retired to the paddocks but hasn’t been bred yet. Surprised, but happy, to get her for her reserve of $75,000.

[color=red]Ch Kissing Point is a 7yo half-sister to retired stud NCh The Fighting Fifty. She’s by CDR sire Point Given. Another MSW on the turf she won the BC Filly & Mare Turf. She hasn’t raced since last year when she finished second in a grade 2 on her only start so she’s doing some light training to see if it’s worth racing her again before she retires to the paddocks next spring. Cost $350,000.

[color=red]Gold Dusted is a 2yo daughter of Irish Gold out of Ch She Will Fly. Her sire has made a good start with his first 2yos and she should be fun to play with. Cost $20,000.

[color=red]GCh A Pharoahs Victory is a 9yo mare by Akhetnaten out of Hollywood Victory. A dirt specialist, she’s half to GCh Triomphe and GCh Quest For Victory. Currently bronze ranked and in foal to Frankel. Cost $75,000.

[color=red]Ch Dancing In Winter is a 7yo daughter of Whirlaway. She’s another MSW on turf and brings new lines to the barn. She’s not been bred yet and will likely visit Quarren next year. A millionaire on the track, she cost a bargain $25,000.

Spent waaay too much money, but this is the first year I could actually bid on something with any hope of bringing a pony home! Our #1 pick exceeded our limit, but we still snagged 3 top choices.

[color=red]Ch. Wild Countess is a 6yo daughter of Count Fleet (S) out of Walkonthewildside (S). She’s half to MSW GCh. Hearts Are Wild, two stakes winners, and all her sibs are winners. Her two older half-sisters have produced stakes winners, and one has produced two MSW’s. $100,000.

[color=red]Ch. Queen Anne is a 6yo broodmare by Bold Ruler (G) out of Terlinga’s Kitty (G). She’s half to MSW’s GCh. Keep the Kitty (S; dam of 2 MSW’s) and GCh. Firefoot (G; dam of 2 MSW’s). Terlinga’s Kitty is half to GCh. Stagehand. She’s unbred for this year and her oldest foal is a weanling. $75,000.

[color=blue]Postmaster is a huge 16hh yearling by FFCh. Foolhardy § out of ICh. French Kiss, a winner of 11 stakes races and $2 million. $165,500.

Our #1 goal was to focus on the progeny of four top Stallions (especially as we didn’t have any progeny from two of them). We successfully picked up 5 new horses, all from our target list, and spent a total of $400,000.

Sired by recently deceased Gold-Ranked [color=blue]WCh. Nightfight (G):-
[color=red]GCh. Ardiente, a 6yo broodmare out of [color=red]Ch. Bonfire (S). An MSW, MSP, Multi-Millionaire, she won the 2016 G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. She has one weanling colt and is not currently in foal. Cost $150,000.

[color=blue]Sandman, a 2yo colt out of [color=red]Dream Time (S). Unraced half-brother to MSW [color=blue]GCh. Daddys Pride & MSW [color=red]Ch. Baiame. Cost $100,000.

Sired by recently retired Gold-Ranked [color=blue]FFCh. High Chances (our first two foals by him):-
[color=red]It’s About Time, a 3yo filly out of [color=red]WCh. Worth My Time (S). Half-sister to MSW [color=green]Ch. Ancient Legend. Cost $25,000.

[color=blue]Chance Victory, a weanling colt out of [color=red]GCh. A Pharoahs Victory (B). Cost $75,000.

Sired by our resident stallion & Platinum-Ranked [color=blue]FFCh. Foolhardy:-
[color=red]Fluttering Voltage, an unraced 2yo filly out of [color=red]WCh. Dreamboat (S). Cost $50,000.

Picked up 5 and for the first time the first 5 I selected to bid on.

I normally have a list selected which evolves as the auctions goes on, the end result is normally different from the start due to being out bid etc but this time I got 5 and all very reasonable.  ;D

Went for a cross section, 2 broodmares to add to the band, 1 racehorse, 1 yearling and 1 weanling

Meant to buy only 1, so of course came home with 4. But we’re done now, really…promise…

NCh. UNCHARTED is a 6yo broodmare, daughter of ICh. Count Me In (Silver) and NCh. Untamed Horizons (Gold). Somehow we only have colts by Count Me In, plus Untamed Horizons is quite nice. Cost $500,500.

EXPLOSION is a yearling son of ICh. To Die For and Misty (Silver). He’s half-brother to MSW Smokin Dragon and SW Mount Agung, and all of his siblings to race are winners/stakes level. Cost $25,000.

HEY PRESTO is a weanling son of FFCh. I’m No Fool (Silver) and Presto Slew (Gold). He’s half-brother to MSWs Kickitupanotch, Nefertari, and Fai Presto. He was the one we really wanted, so had to fight for him and paid $253,000.

SUCCULENT is a weanling daughter of ICh. Highland Magic (Silver) and Ch. Debauchery. Bit of a gamble as her older siblings (both by Gotta Go) are unraced, but Devil’s Trademark has been a good bloodline for us. Cost $75,000.

Congrats to the new owners of Stillwater horses, still plenty left for bid so please take some home so the net horse count can be negative.

Picked up 3 more horses this morning after the horse limit was increased:-

An Unnamed yearling filly by [color=blue]NCh. Lucky Streak out of [color=red]Starview (S). Picked her up because she was by one of our resident stallions out of a Silver-ranked mare (even though that ranking came from only one runner). She has been named [color=red]Lucky View. Cost $25,000.

An Unnamed yearling filly by [color=blue]GCh. Major’s Flight (G) out of [color=red]Ch. Leapin Lena. Picked her up because she was by one of our recently retired stallions. She has been named [color=red]Major Leap. Cost $25,000.

[color=red]Ch. All Ablaze, a 7yo mare by [color=blue]GCh. Highland Laird (S) out of one of our resident mares [color=red]Take The Challenge (S). She is a half-sister to one of our horses, MSW [color=blue]Ch. Gaudy Night, and 3 of our younger horses. Cost $150,000.

Picked up one more.

[color=red]Titania is a 4yo by ICh. Long Live the King out of Ch. Highland Mischief (S), by Highland Rogue §. She’s been second twice in her 3 SC starts so far, so we’ll keep her racing. She’s half to MSW Laughing Out Loud (dam of MSW Clowning Around) and MSP Tuatha De Danann (dam of SP 2yo Danu). $25,000.

We’d hoped to add two more once the number restrictions were lifted. Ended up bringing home another five but at least one’s a colt this time.

[color=red]Make Me A Queen is an 11yo daughter of Diplomat. She’s Gold ranked with two MSW from three foals to race. In foal to Doodles. Cost $250,000.

[color=red]Must Be Love is a 6yo racehorse by Must Be Magic. She’s a MSW, again with a preference for turf. Cost $269,000.

[color=red]Engagement Ring is another 6yo, this time by Rahy. Again a MSW on turf.
Cost $200,000.

[color=red]Point of Interest is a 2yo by Point Given out of GCh Clear A Path. Unraced to date. Cost $50,000.

[color=blue]Lover’s Quarrel is another unraced 2yo. He’s by High On Love out of our own mare Checkmate Debate (S). Cost $25,000.

Ok one more… I didn’t really want another broodmare, but she is good looking. We’ll probably breed her to our stallion Al Mundhir.

Ch. Ophelia - a 10yo chestnut broodmare by Class Act (Gold), out of Ch. Why Ask Why. Ophelia is a half sister to Don’t Ask, a platinum ranked dam of millionaire GCh. Blowing Kisses. Ophelia is a mult. stakes winner, including a win in Bonnie Miss Stakes (2012) which we also won with Ch. Iyaiyai and Ch. A Sweet Melody.
Price:  $150,500.
