Sent 14 out, 14 came home…but we welcomed a newly claimed girl, and lost one of our guys in a claiming race…
The highlights of the day include:
The only win of the day came from our first-ever homebred, 4YO [color=green]NOTMYFIRSTRODEO (x Temptation) in his NW1. Glad to see him start to find his footing, especially as I have a very big (understandable) attachment to him.
4YO [color=blue]SOLAR FLARE (x Secretariat) was entered in a claimer primarily due to lack of suitable races - he finished 2nd, but also found himself a new home with Littlefield. While we are sad to see him go, we wish them the best of luck and hope to see him in the winners circle soon. He is 1/2 to MSW Ch. Sesen.
3YO [color=blue]ALLINVAIN (x Worth My While), who has yet to break his maiden, was 2nd in his NW1.
5YO [color=red]ALYGLAMOUR (x Alydar) was 2nd in her NW2.
3YO [color=red]AUNT PEARL (x Rahy) was 2nd in her claimer (and came home with us as a result). I was able to breed 1 filly and 1 colt from Rahy before he retired, so I was happy to snag this little lady up for a cheap $5,000. She is 1/2 to a stakes placed colt so far by the name of Black Baron, so we’ll see what Rahy’s superpowers add to the mix.
Maiden 3YO [color=red]CIAO BELLA (x Alley Cat) was 3rd in her NW1 - a marked improvement. We expect her to be a late bloomer judging by mom & dad’s records, but she does have a lot of pressure riding on her, as the only daughter from her HOTY dam to date. I’m prepared to be verrrrry patient with her.
4YO [color=red]OH SO PROUD (x Highland Pride) makes up the other half of Notmyfirstrodeo’s foal crop (big year for us: only 2 babies were born). So we were quite happy with her 3rd place finish in her maiden. We’ll get there, I hope!
The rest were off the board, but there is one more I’d like to mention…
Our budding superstar, the girl with miraculous bounce-back powers - 4YO [color=red]Afterglow (x Affirmed) was shipped to Australia and entered into a really big race. For a girl who has just magically found her footing, it’s not a big surprise that she ended up out of the money. However, upon closer inspection of the results, I wanted to point out a few things: all horses earned the same SF, and no one was more than 1/4 length behind the other horses. In other words, it was a VERY close match-up. And our brave little girl finished midpack, 6th/10. She finished behind some expected, recognizable names and millionaires, but she also managed to beat some familiar names, such as Sponsored and Bay of Biscay. And so, even though she didn’t finish in the top 3 today, I feel that she has proven that she can hold her own among some of the best current runners in the game. I’m excited for what this might mean for her future… Now to strategize her next start. Which, judging by her amazing bounce-back skills, will likely be in a week or so.
