Very few out today, but it was worth it because Melbourne becomes our 3rd homebred to be stud qualified! He also joins Manhattan as our 2nd M-city named stud. I have no idea where this good luck came from, but we’ve started naming 1 colt from each foal crop after a city starting with M. (We have a 3yo named Miami with 3 SW). Melbourne is also the first son of Express Yourself to qualify.

We shall see how he does in early 2026 before retiring to stud duty. I’d like him to reach NCh if possible.

Wins:
GCh. Melbourne (5yo, Express Yourself) in the Queen’s Country Stakes (Gr. 3)

Places:
Vieux Hollywood (2yo, Hollywood Knight) in a NW3 Allowance

@willagrey Congrats with Melbourne’s win! So nice to see a future stud who can offset all the Foolhardy, Nightfight, and Unabridged.

Ran almost exclusively on the undercard, for a pretty solid return.

Congratulations of the stud qualification @willagrey! Always nice to see a new stallion, escpecially if he’s the first son to qualify!

Nice enough day for us! Solid performance for the undercard, stakes were a little tougher. Had a couple with SW potential that I threw in an allowance instead because they’d been overlooked for too long (having a horse with 6+ months rest in a stakes feels a bit like cheating to me so I mostly avoid it) and they set a couple of speed records instead. Curious to see how they’ll fare in a stakes next!

For what it’s worth, there’s a cap on how much rest helps. My horses have been resting for multiple years and are crap. (Of course, they’re probably all over the hill, too, so there’s that.) But the point still applies to young, in-their-prime horses.

Very true and thankfully so! Can’s imagine a bunch of rested 10-year-olds taking stakes everywhere, haha. But three-year-olds that have been resting since March definitely have too much of an edge, lol. Especially if they haven’t won at stakes level before it often does seem like the rest is the determining factor for the win.
