10/29

Mixed bag, but mostly disappointments (no surprises, given 80% stakes entries for us).

25(20)-1(1)-7(4)-0-5(3) $2,567,600

WIN:
[color=red]Polished (3yo, Highland Wizard) in the Australian Oaks for her first stakes win.

PLACES:
[color=red]Reigning Star (3yo, TakeMeToHollywood) in a NW2.

[color=red]Selarrynm (3yo, Highland Bandit) in a NW3.

[color=blue]Rising Glory (2yo, Invasor) in a maiden.

[color=blue]Usain Bolt (5yo, Strider) in the SC Sprint.

[color=blue]Dark Spell (4yo, Highland Laird) in the SC Classic.

[color=blue]Captain Hook (3yo, Magic Glory) in the SC Endurance.

[color=red]Can’t Fool Me (4yo, Foolhardy) in the SC Distaff Endurance.

FOURTHS:
[color=red]Dovahkiin (3yo, Player) in a NW2.

[color=blue]Connect the Dots (3yo, Long Live The King) in an open allowance.

[color=blue]Bravado (3yo, Foolhardy) in the Discovery Handicap.

[color=red]Spread the News (4yo, All Jazzed Up) in the Filly & Mare Turf.

[color=blue]Clowning Around (2yo, Foolhardy) in the Juvenile Turf.

OTHERS:
[color=red]Moved By Words was 9th in the Juvenile Fillies.

[color=blue]Torero was 7th in the Sprint.

[color=blue]Meet Your Maker, [color=blue]Don’t Pass Go, [color=blue]Exhilaration were 5th/8th/13th in the Juvenile.

[color=blue]Epic Proportions was 5th in the Turf.

[color=red]Glorious Romance was 8th in the SC Distaff.

[color=red]Sable Princess was 5th in the SC Distaff Endurance (which she won last year).

[color=blue]Break Free and [color=blue]Ring of Death were 8th/11th in the Juvenile Turf.

[color=red]Searchlight and [color=red]Ephemeral were 6th/8th in the Juvenile Turf Fillies.

Nothing spectacular on my end.

[color=red]Minute In Gigi (3 YO by GCh. Simply Heroic x Approaching Fires) placed 2nd in her NW3. I’ve been running her mostly on classic tracks without much luck, so I thought I’d try endurance this time and it seems to have paid off. Hoping she can keep this up.

[color=red]Alley Heart (3 YO by ICh. Alley Cat x Ch. Wild Bidder) placed 5th of 6 in her NW2. Having trouble figuring this one out, but at least she came home with a small paycheck this time.

I’ve had no luck with my 2 YOs, but I suppose that’s to be expected. [color=red]Rossa’s Account (NCh. Broad Account x Kiptarossa) and [color=blue]Silvertongue (Silver Charm x Ch. Fairly Persistent) placed 8th and 11th respectively. Will probably focus on training for these two from here to December so that maybe I can figure them out before their 3 YO seasons.

Just did the math, and (not including shipping to the track for the race), Breeders’ Cup day cost us $589,791 to run the ponies. That also doesn’t include the original fees to nominate for the BC, just the few supplemental nominations we did this year.

Wise budget move? Not so much. Still fun, at least. (And I was pleasantly surprised, looking at the results, to see the winners well-distributed across sure-bets and wow-unexpected-wins.)

Today was the biggest breeder cup day we have ever had. We had 24 horses run - ever single one in a BC race. An expensive day (and scary because of it!) but worth it in the end.
24(24)-5(5)-2(2)-4(4)-3(3) $9,490,000

Wins
[color=blue]NCh. Lake Highlands (5yo, Highland Bandit) in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He is now a NATIONAL champion!
[color=blue]NCh. Run Jenny Run (5yo, What’s Your Point) in the reeders’ Cup Turf. Very happy with this - his last few starts have been mediocre so I gave him a few months off. He came back in style!
[color=blue]GCh. Fruitloop (6yo, Easy Goer) in the Breeders’ Cup SC Classic, definitely the surprise of the day… He also had a few months off but he has been running this year like he is tired, glad there is still some juice left
[color=red]GCh. Desert Mirage (4yo, Point Given) in the Breeders’ Cup SC Distaff Endurance for her 6th stakes win this season
[color=red]Ch. Blue Eyed Girl (2yo, What’s Your Point) in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies, this gal has been a superstar!

Places
[color=red]Ch. Alluring girl (4yo, Highland Bandit) in the Breeders’ Cup SC Distaff, always a bridesmaid!
[color=red]Diamond Dust (2yo, Ring Of Fire) behind stablemate Blue Eyed Girl in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies. This was her first ever stakes start, very pleased with her

Shows
[color=blue]Ch. UnfinishedBusiness (3yo, What’s Your Point) in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint behind stablemate Lake Highlands
[color=blue]Templar Knight (3yo, Chivalry) in the Breeders’ Cup Turf
[color=blue]Ch. Highland Bound (4yo, Highland Bandit) in the Breeders’ Cup SC Endurance unfortunately breaking his winning streak this season
[color=red]Uncharted Waters (4yo, Worth The Wait) in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint

4ths
[color=blue]Ch. Silent Victor (3yo, V is for Victory) in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint behind stablemates UnfinishedBusiness and LakeHighlands. Semiahmoo took 1st, 3rd and 4th in this race
[color=red]Ch. Heavens To Betsy (4yo, High Chances) in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint behind stablemate Uncharted Waters
[color=red]Bubblicious (2yo, I’m Your Angel) in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies behind stablemates Blue Eyed Girl and Diamond Dust. Semiahmoo took 1st, 2nd and 4th in this race.

10 more horses also ran, but i’m too lazy to list them all  ::)

Not bad, no wins but some decent finishes and at least we aren’t in the red so that should count for something.

SECONDS

My 2 Juvenile dirt hopefuls both finished in second.

[color=red]Ch. Lucky Lilly (My Lucky Day X Lit de Lilly) She’s been really consistent this year and I’m happy to have a Lucky Day filly doing so well. Congrats to Gone By Morning (Nightfight) for finishing 3rd!
[color=blue]Ch. Don’t Trip (Nightfight X Trippi Flowers) Only raced 7 times this year so far but top 3 every time out.  For some reason he wasn’t raced since August but we won’t be forgetting about him again anytime soon.  Also, Congrats to [color=blue]Ch. Space Chips (Nightfight) for finishing not far behind in third.

THIRDS

[color=blue]Wildcat Wishes(As You Wish X Alaskan Wildcat) in the Discovery Handicap. Nice finish for this guy.  The Wildcat foals seem to mature early and he’s only been hitting the board since September.  We are looking forward to racing him some more!
[color=blue]Ch. Devils Imagination(Devil His Due X Beyond Imagination) in the BC SC Classic.  Rather successful this year over jumps.  Only off the board twice and by our Devil His Due to boot.  He seems to be throwing nice SC ponies despite his size!
[color=blue]Ch. Star Blast (As You Wish X Morning Star) broke in first but couldn’t hold on to win and faded to third. We are chalking it up to immaturity so hopefully we have good things to look forward to next year!

FIFTHS (Hey it’s Breeders Cup Day and we didn’t have a lot to report so we are stretching it this time! )

[color=blue]Ch. Top Shelf (Nightfight X Windsinger) in the Discovery Handicap.  For some reason I only have raced him 4 times this year.  I guess he needed a long rest.
[color=blue]ICh. Sponsored (Nightfight X Indy’s Lady) in the BC Sprint.  Very close finish with the top five only a nose apart.  Glad to see he hung in there with the best of them.  He finished a nose in front of [color=green]FFCh. Loveofthegame which is a feat unto itself.

*Big Congratulations to Fox Run for racing [color=blue]NCh. Devils Walk to the winners circle in the Breeders Cup Classic!!!  CDS is super proud to see a Nightfight foal win the Classic!!
Congratulations to [color=red]GCh. Secret Pleasure (As You Wish) for winning the BC SC Sprint!!

Congrats, they beat my once unbeaten filly! Now I’m thinking if it means that she’s better on dirt than on turf… but anyway, both of my champion 2yo’s were awesome today.

[color=red]Ch. Winter Queen finished 3rd/13 in Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies,

[color=blue]Ch. Space Chips finished 3rd/14 in Breeders’ Cup Juvenile,

and [color=red]Daralhorra was 5th/9 in a maiden for 2yo fillies, her first race ever.

I’m very proud of all three!

Wins
Wise Duke 10f D NW2
Hidden Stagehand 14f SC Allow
Mystic Continent 6f T 2yo MDN
Struckonadevil 6f D 2yo MDN
Secret Pleasure 7f Breeders Cup SC Sprint

I think I broke even at the BC. Whoo?

Thanks Holly I am super happy too, I was afraid he was getting close to retirement but with this performance I have the ICh title in my sights!

We had a great Breeder’s Cup day and ultimately the results seemed to be the opposite of what I expected to happen

9(8 )-5(4)-1(1)-0-1(1)

WINS

[color=blue]NCh. Devil’s Walk won the BC Classic and which is so exciting as I had hoped he would be like his dad and run well past his 4yrold year and so far so good!

[color=blue]NCh. Crafty Magic was the super surprise winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint and getting a speed record in the process!  I was worried his stud resume was pretty lackluster but after winning his last 3 starts, all stakes, I think he is really proving himself. It’s also nice because he’s one of our very few sprinters

[color=blue]Ch.Fighting Spirit won the Gr. 2 Knickerbocker Stakes. He’s been improving and our stable seems to have good luck with horses by Lasting Spirit. This was his second stakes win

[color=red]Ch. Strange Encounter (5yr old by Sneak Peek) won the Breeders’ Cup SC Distaff . She’s always showed talent but I tend to neglect my steeplers. I suppose she’s earned extra attention now

[color=blue]Encryption a 3yr old by Cryptic Ballad won his SC OA. With a steeples record of 8 starts for 7wins, 1 place he is another neglected steepler that deserves a shot at stakes!

PLACES
[color=red]It’s My Time 3yr old by Seattle Sorcerer in the Gr. 3 Discovery Handicap. This girl has so much potential I know I just need to find the button! Considering she is half to ICh Usian Bolt and ICh Spectacular Lady I guess it’s inevitable…  She is now MSP

FOURTHS
[color=red]Ch. Lonesome Road in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Previously undefeated in four starts. Oh well, she still put in a good performance

OTHER
[color=red]Ch. Red Sky At Night 7th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies
[color=red]Gautseshen 6th in the Gr. 1 Australian Oaks

So I missed my chance to do supplemental nominations, and I’ve been MIA (mostly) for the last couple months, but I managed to get my already-nominated BC qualifiers entered:

WINS

[color=blue]Ch. Fool’s Errand (2yo, Foolhardy x Kiasport) won the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile, remaining undefeated.

[color=red]Ch. Finesse (2yo, created) won the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies.

PLACES

[color=blue]Sign of the Cross (3yo, I’m A Classic x CrossTheThreshold) finished second in the Breeder’s Cup Sprint.

OFF THE BOARD

Khione (2yo, Nightfight x Klondike Nights) finished dead last in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies.

Three winners yesterday, including wins in two of the BC races. However, considering the number of high rated horses we had running in the 18 BC races (we had 21 horses rated in the top 3 in the final Qualifiers List and the top rated runner in 9 of the races), 2 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds is a very disappointing return.

Congratulations to Semiahmoo (5W-3P-4S), Coleman (3W-2P-3S), Littlefield (2W out of 5 runners), Fox Run (3W out of 5 runners) & Ivy Creek (2W-1P out of 4 runners) on the great overall performances of their horses. Congratulations too to Fox Run whose Devil’s Walk won the Classic, despite being the only non-Starfish horse in the race (or maybe, because he was the only non-Starfish horse in the race, the way our horses have been running recently).
