I only threw up $1000 as a figure, regardless I think it’s a decent idea that we could implement.
It would remove excess stock from the auction page too.

Maybe new members could pick FF owned horses, like we did after Color War?
The trick with this is that they have to be created. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair if one member gets an unlaced 3yo with gold-rated parents and another one gets a 3yo with bronze/non-rated parents. I think it’s setup to try and find unraced created horses that FF owns, but if it can’t find any it does create them. (And if it’s not setup that way now, it will be in the rewrite.)
Yes, creating horses for yourself will be gone in the beta version.
Please, no one read this as being rude, I’m genuinely curious. Is a surplus of horses a problem? The high birth to death ratio and so many horses being for sale has really allowed my stable to grow over the last year, which I have found to be very fun. (As a game should be!) This would be a problem in real life, but FF is a good sanctuary for the surplus population of horses that end up homeless and unlike in real life, they’re well taken care of! Not having to fight over horses for sale makes buying horses possible for a much wider range of players.
Therefore, my point is, does this issue even need fixed? I view it as a good thing. What are the cons of so many horses being for sale/in existence that I’m overlooking?
In my view, it’s not really a problem. The only “problem” is horses languishing on the sales page because they’re not selling, which is likely due to 1) being overpriced 2) not being marketable (e.g. needing to retire). So having the time-based expiration of sales listings will at least potentially solve problem #1 (if it forces you to lower your price in order to re-list the horse for sale), and might solve #2 (if you get tired of re-listing and just retire the horse).
The other problem is that with so many horses for sale at a time, it’s hard to figure out what you might be interested in buying. I’m hoping to fix this in the beta version of the sales page.
I did not think it was a problem, I just thought it was interesting. I didn’t know if quite a few stables had started doing well in the last 3 years or there just were not enough players to buy those horses on the sale page.
Don’t discount those created broodmares! There are definitely some gold ranked ones in the mix. Their owners never would have know if they could make it so far up the ranking ladder if they hadn’t taken a chances on their created pedigrees
I like in created broodmares that a new stable can start their own lines with them but maybe unraced broodmares are not that necessary.
I agree, created horses are some of my best. Unabridged is created, had an amazing career on the track, and is now a stud! My broodmare with the best rank is created, Kelly Do! Created horses may be luck of the draw, but are definitely no less talented than those with pedigrees if you are lucky with one.
Techinically you have to be lucky with the ones that have a pedigree. Not all of them are winners
