Yeah, the vet recommended a joint supplement, and hill work to develop his topline/strength.
How are things coming along with Mr. Fling?
I’m going to pick him (and the new trailer) up tomorrow.
Still needs a barn name, though.
YAY! Congrats. Hope this one’s a keeper. =)
Me too! Especially since at least one of my saddles doesn’t really fit him, so now I’m saddle shopping again. I found a brand new event saddle for 1/2 price, though, so I’m excited. Also found 2 other saddles (dressage/jumping) that might work…then I just have to figure out how to sell my current tack.
Ahhhhh the joys of saddle shopping lol
But yay! I’m glad you found a horse you click with, even if it means you have to get a new saddle and you should post a ton of pics when you get him home!
So I bought the horse today.
Did not, however, buy the trailer, because the dealer was a total $*!%@&. He had no qualms whatsoever about handing over a trailer with rotted tires and unchecked bearings, and had the gall to yell at my trainer for pointing out that that was probably not the best business decision in the world. (If anyone buys a trailer in SC, PM me and I’ll tell you his name so you avoid him.) He also claimed that I should have reminded him to send me the price quotes (which he never did) on the stuff I requested, which included a quote on replacing all 4 (well, 5) tires. So, yeah. No trailer.
Which also means no pony in NC. But we’re working on alternate plans to get him up here. Speaking of, I need to go post on various websites to see about hitching a ride.
Check around any race tracks for hauling. Stud farms, as mares are being brought in for foaling and to get ready for breeding season.
Also, go to
www.craigslist.org and click on your state, then nearest town/city. Then go to Farm/Garden section and there could be posts for open hauling spots and you can post for free, that your horse needs a ride from point A to point B.
craigs list is very popular!! you can sell horses, tack, find horse trailers and everything on there
Do you have an update on how your new boy is adjusting?
Are you guys getting along?
And what did you name him?
Any new pics or videos?
He is a handsome fella and I have been keeping an eye out for updates.
He’s adjusting well…he’s settled in at the barn, and has a best buddy to hang out with. He’s also gotten his hocks injected and a chiropractic adjustment, so physically he’s in pretty good shape.
Mentally he’s doing well, too. He’s not so fond of this dressage stuff, but he tries hard, and his gaits are lovely. Jumping is a blast, though we haven’t done much recently because of the weather. We’re aiming to head to a show or 2 next weekend, so we’ll see how that goes.
His name is Kellar. It means either “little champion” or “companion” in gaelic…both meanings seemed to fit well.
I need to get/upload more pics/video. It’s tough finding a cameraperson to take them, though.
Glad to hear all is going well. And Kellar is a very unique name.
Please keep us updated on how you guys do and good luck this weekend if you go.
Anything horse related is interesting to me and others I am sure.
