Hey guys,
So with the
introduction of turf racing, I’ve been trying to think of how HOTY awards should be broken
down. Looking to real-life doesn’t help much since they have fewer categories than we’ve
had in past years 
(13 including trainer/jockey vs. 12 for us).
The current list I have
is:
2 Year Old Colt
2 Year Old Filly
3 Year Old Colt
3 Year Old Filly
Older Male
Older
Mare
Turf Male
Turf Mare
Sprint Male
Sprint Mare
SC Colt
SC Filly
Older SC Male
Older
SC Mare
Breeder
Stable
Do we want to add other distance categories (i.e. Classic
Male/Mare, Endurance Male/Mare)? I don’t want to get TOO many horses involved, but I’ve
always found it slightly strange that Eclipse Awards have only included Sprinter…maybe
Classic/Endurance are just taken for granted as part of the Horse of the Year title? (Since
you’d have to be a really amazing sprinter to get that title, I think)
Anyway…opinions?

Maybe add a filly and colt
turf award. That’s all I can think of that would be a nice thing to add.
Yeah, I think we should
definitly have an Endurance category and probably as Classic one since in FF the classic
winners don’t always win HOTY but I think we’re kinda lacking in SC as well. I mean, yes we
also don’t have very many SC races but theres different SC distances, although not many
sprints. How about a Classic SC category and Endurance SC category? Oh and the 2yo turf one
is a good idea too Holly!

Well, we already have
3yo/Older SC, and given the number of SC horses, I think that’s enough.
The main things
that I will consider adding would be a Classic/Endurance category for each gender, and
possibly a 3yo turf category (which would make the current turf category into Older Turf).
2yos are so unpredictable and…ahem…unmotivated? that I don’t think they need more than
their normal colt/filly categories.

And I agree w/ not making SC
Classic/Endurance categories but no sprinter… I mean, then you’re just discriminating
against the sprinting SCers 
But yeah, I think we have quite a few HOTY things already
and the more we add the more it… cheapens? them. Since saying "Well, my horse was one of
20 HOTY winners" isn’t quite so impressive.
well acutally I ment a 3 year
old turf filly and colt category. But it’s cool doesn’t look like we need anything like
that anyway.

just my 2 cents, but I’d
take distances out of the HOTY cat’s. Have “distance” Champons.
