Ugh, not a good week with the third stillborn. Sheza Sheila also promptly retired so unfortunately there’s no second chance for this breeding. Thankfully she leaves behind 10 foals inclusing 2 MSW’s and 2 SP’s. Fingers crossed this is it for this breeding season.

As there’s a 1 in 300 chance of a foal being a stillborn and Gotapa’s up to 4 in 30 foals already I’m concluding that luck is not on our side this breeding season. Hopefully it just means we’re lucky with the talent of the foals that are born healthy, lol.

So sorry to hear of the rough start to the season! This year has been a bit more rough than previous for us as well with 60 foals on the ground but with 4 stillborns and 2 mare deaths already. Fingers crossed the healthy babies will grow up to be rockstars!!

There’s some irony in One Day Early delivering over three weeks late, but we’re happy to see this big, heatlhy colt arriving! Friday is half to MSW Quarter Past, but as One Day Early only has three racing foals to date, we’re hoping the list of superstars will expand. Friday could either take to turf or steeplechase, so we’ll see what he likes best in the future! One Day Early will visit Palermo next.

One Day Early was the reason why we started holding off on breeding any of our mares before March to try and ensure that we didn’t get any more foals born in late December.

Something must be in the water at Gotapa because we have another stilborn. 5 stillborn out of 35 foals born (out of 61 total I bred for 2029) is quite a steep price to pay this breeding season. I might just breed a few more for 2030 just in case. Thankfully we also have a healthy arrival today to soften the blow a little.
