Breeders' Cup Festival (Nov. 2-3)

We’ve got 4 in this year’s BC. It’s my first chance ever at participating, so win or lose, I’m excited!

[color=red]Ch. Fractal in the Distaff
3yo filly by NCh. Changeling x Ch. Limelight
1st in the GR1 Acorn Stakes
2nd in the GR1 Go For Wand Stakes
3rd in the GR1 Travers Stakes
She’s only #12 on the qualifier list, so definitely a bit of a long shot, but the Distaff drops her back down to a more familiar distance, so hoping she perks up with a slightly shorter run than the last couple ones have been.

[color=blue]Wry Hope in the BC Juvenile
2yo colt by NCh. Formal Occasion x Indy Angela (an A.P. Indy mare)
1st in the GR1 Hopeful Stakes and Futurity Stakes
5th in the GR1 Champagne Stakes
This one’s a toss-up. His last run at 8.5f wasn’t his best, but working off the possibility of the fact that he was just too tired from his previous runs, he got a break and should be good to go for tomorrow’s race. He ranks 5th in this category.

[color=blue]Ch. Royal Sacred One in the BC Turf
4yo stallion by GCh. Tottenham Hotspur x GCh. Princess Kaiulani
1st in the GR1 Turf Classic Invitational
Ranking 11th on the list of qualifiers, this guy is actually pretty new to our stable. Bought him for $1k in July, and he’s 2 for 2 since I’ve owned him. Will be interesting to see if he can keep up with the pack this round.

[color=red]Ch. Towering Clover in the Dirt Mile
3yo filly by GCh. Edinburgh x Pushin Buttons
1st in the GR1 Mother Goose Stakes and the Ungraded Real Delight Stakes
2nd in the GR2 Saratoga Breeders’ Cup
This little girl was a Color War prize from a previous year, and I’ve been thrilled by her performance this year. At a 50% win rate so far this year, and ranking 6th on the list of qualifiers, it’s kinda a tossup how she’ll do. Only a total of 5 contenders in this race, but she’ll be running against some pretty steep competition, including GCh. Fool To Be Smokin’, GCh. Belak, and Ch. Dark Debate.

We’ve got a huge 13 horses entered in the BC races; some only have a handful of stakes races under their belt so should make it interesting!

[WCh. I’m Your Angel x Capture the Glory]
3(1) - 1 - 2(1) - 0

[color=blue]Panda Bear
[WCh. I’m Your Angel (S) x Ch. Bamboo Dive (S)]
6(4) - 3(1) - 0 - 0 - 1(1)
This homebred colt is lightly raced and was a pretty last minute entry into the BC Sprint. His highlights include winning the G2 Riva Ridge Breeder’s Cup. He is well rested and ready to run

[color=red]Ch. Lioness
[Animal Kingdom (B) x Easy Trick (S)]
7(3) - 4(2) - 1(1) - 0 - 2
This homebred filly has been running really well lately and was a last minute entry. Her highlights include winning the G3 Jaipur Stakes and Pucker Up Stakes as well as placing in the American Oaks.

[color=red]Ch. Live Another Day
[ICh To Die For (B) x GCh. Irish Discovery (G)
10(5) - 2(1) - 3(1) - 2(1) - 0
Homebred filly who’s had a bit of a mixed bag career. Her highlights include winning the G2 Orchid Handicap and showing in the G2 Queenston Stakes

[color=blue]Ch. Black Diamond
[ICh. Ring Of Fire (S) x Carat (G)]
13(10) - 4(2) - 3(3) - 1(1) - 0

[color=blue]Ch. Monumental
[NCh. Carrowmore (S) x Supa Kwik (S)]
12(8) - 4(1) - 2(1) - 0 - 1(1)
Another late entry homebred colt. This will be a tough field for him but he’s coming off of 3 months of rest. Highlights include winning the Portrero Grande Breeders Cup Handicap.

Breeders Cup SC Distaff
[color=red]Ch. Bold and Beautiful
[NCh. Boldness Shows (B) x Move Boldly (S)]
24(16) - 5(3) - 5(5) - 3(2) - 5(3)
Bred by Final Furlong, this filly has surprised me. Her 2022 highlights include winning the G3 Vigil Stakes and placing in the G1 John C. Mabes and G2 Buena Vista Handicap.

Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
[color=red]Ch. Undeniable
[NCh. Mr. Prospective (S) x So Unbelievable (G)]
7(6) - 3(2) - 0 - 0 - 1(1)
Homebred filly who has run well this year and is coming off of a 3 month break. Her highlight this year is winning the G1 Mr. Prospector Handicap

Breeders Cup Turf Sprint
[color=blue]Ch. Fire N’ Brimestone
[NCh. Worthy Victor (S) x Fan Into Flame (G)]
8(6) - 3(1) - 2(2) - 0 - 0
Bred by Starfish this colt has always been a bit up and down, hopefully he’s on his A game for this race. Highlights include winning the G2 Jamaica Stakes, placing in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Victoria Derby.

[color=blue]Ch. Glory Days
[WCh. As You Wish (S) x Capture The Glory (S)]
10(7) - 3(1) - 1(1) - 4(3) - 0
Homebred colt, loves running in 3rd. His highlights include showing in the G1 Melair Stakes and Crown Royal American Turf

It’s today! Good luck everyone.

Real life horses still have a few days to go, so let’s have a look at the Breeders’ Cup Turf:

Breeders’ Cup Preview: 13 Entered in Longines Turf

including two-time Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, 4yo filly Enable, and 5yo colt Talismanic who won Breeders’ Cup Turf last year (but he finished 13th in the Arc).

The complete field for the BC Turf, in post position order, includes: 1: Talismanic, 12-1; 2. Enable, 1-1; 3. Channel Maker, 12-1; 4. Robert Bruce 10-1; Magical, 10-1; 6. Arklow, 30-1; 7. Glorious Empire, 12-1; 8. Liam the Charmer, 30-1; 9. Quarteto de Cordas, 30-1; 10. Hi Happy, 20-1; 11. Sadler’s Joy, 30-1; 12. Waldgeist, 9-2; 13. Hunting Horn, 30-1.

Meanwhile, Wonder Gadot, a 3yo filly who won this year’s Queen’s Plate Stakes and Prince of Wales Stakes (but did not run in the Breeders’ Stakes to try winning the Canadian Triple Crown) was feeling jumpy yesterday as you can see in this Tweet, in which she is being compared to Wonder Woman:

Just sayin’. #WonderGadot #BC18

She will run in the Distaff. But there are amazing fillies everywhere, so…

Side-By-Side Preview of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs on November 3rd, 2018 Based on Works

Keeping fingers crossed for Enable. She’s an exceptional filly but the Arc wasn’t long ago although she’s lightly raced this season.

Good luck everyone with runners in the FF BC races. We only have Smaug in the filly and mare sprint, more for the taking part rather than because we’re confident!

It’s official! I updated the first post in this topic, and I’ll post the list of FF winners here too:

Cricket Hill - 2 wins
Darkwood Stables, Sakura Springs, Coleman Branch - 1 win

Sires with more than 1 winner:
FFCh. Foolhardy - 3 winners (his progeny won 3 of the 4 2YO races - It is sad that next years 2YO’s will be his last crop)
GCh. Major’s Flight - 2 winners

Out of the 18 BC Races today, only 6 were won by the top Ranked horse in the race and 1 other was won by the top Ranked runner in the race whic shows that it doesn’t always pay to have the top Ranked horse in these races.

Congratulations to all the winners and especially to Cat on Palermo’s Stud-Qualification.

Thank you, Lewis! Sadly Major’s Flight is retired, but he has one son at stud currently - [color=blue]NCh. AndLikeThatHesGone, a steeplechaser like his sire, although Major’s Flight also won over a million on dirt. Not surprisingly, both his daughters won Breeders’ Cup Steeplechase races.

There is also just one winner by a real life “famous horse”, [color=blue]Frankel. The filly won a Turf Sprint and Frankel was a turf specialist too. Also, Frankel has the highest breeding ranking of active real life stallions in the game (Silver). Other than that, Deep Impact, Bernardini and Curlin are Bronze - and Deep Impact’s son Ch. Deep Silence finished 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

I updated the list with real life results as of Friday. Real life racehorses often have multiple owners, so I decided that sire and trainer’s name will be more informative here. So far, one real life winner is by a “famous stallion” that we had in the game, but he (Candy Ride) is now retired. Lope de Vega (sire of Juvenile Turf Fillies winner) was proposed in a poll for “famous studs for 2017”, but he didn’t get votes. Horse’s name links to a page on official website, where you can view the race.

By the way, Jaywalk has such a beautiful coat colouris that a blue roan?

I think that’s known as ‘rose grey’.

Fairly sure she’s gray but with a chestnut base coat via her dam, so as she grays out that chestnut coat turns a rosy color.

Updated with Saturday results.
