Yeah, I’m not too surprised, it’s just sad since his recovery was going well (surprisingly well, to me at least).
It certainly was going amazingly well, and I’m actualy surprised that it didn’t develop until now. It really proves how well he was taken care of there, that they managed to stave this off until now.
I was talking to Dr. Milne before it was even known that Barbaro had laminitis, he said now that Barbaro has developed an infection in the injured leg, it is just going to be a downward spiral. He said that pretty much nothing but a miracle is going to save him now. He explained that in humans with a similar injury/surgery if they get an infection in the area where they were injured, all the metal is removed and they are put on bed rest, which you can’t do with a horse. Now that he has an infection and laminitis, it is just a waiting game.

Thanks, I randomly discovered a movie making program on my computer and after seeing some Barbaro videos I decided to make one. I found one video of Barbaro, the text is in french, but it is a really nice video, though it does have live footage of the Preakness along with some close ups of the leg injury which I will caution you, will make your stomache turn.
