4/17

Nice day! Over half the ponies came home in the top 4, which for a race day featuring 9 2yos is pretty good.

WINS:
[color=red]Another World (2yo, Void) in a NW1. Half-sister to SP Scotland’s Glory and Perfect Princess.

[color=blue]Privileged Intel (3yo, Strider) in an OA.

[color=blue]Lord Nelson (5yo, Cigar) in the Woodstock Stakes. This is his second stakes win this year over jumps.

[color=blue]Usain Bolt (4yo, Strider) in the Cantala Stakes for his first Grade 1 win. He needs one more stakes win of any grade to get stud qualified, so we’re finally beginning to hope!

PLACES:
[color=red]Bright Naiad (3yo, Irish River) in an OA.

[color=red]Glorious Romance (3yo, Gunningdownromance) in the Comely Stakes.

SHOWS:
[color=blue]Connect the Dots (2yo, Long Live the King) in a NW2. Cricket Hill-bred, half-brother to MSW Color By Numbers.

[color=red]Fire Magic (2yo, Highland Magic) in a NW3. Half-sister to MSW Bright Belles and SP No Contest.

[color=blue]Black Watch (2yo, Highland Laird) in a maiden. Half-brother to MSWs Devil in Disguise and Celtic Magic, and SP Full of Fanfare.

FOURTHS:
[color=blue]Cadeau (2yo, Highland Laird) in a NW1. First foal from MSW dam.

[color=red]Beside The Point (2yo, I’m Your Angel) in a NW3. Half-sister SW Adonis and SP Point The Finger.

[color=red]Arizona Dream (5yo, High Chances) in the Highland Rogue Stakes.

So-so day. 13 runners sent out, about half brought back money.

1 Win
[color=red]Ch. Classic Red Line, (3yo, I’m A Classic x A Fine Red Line) 1/10 in the G3 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs. Barring injury, her next race will be the Kentucky Derby.

2 Seconds
[color=blue]Ch. Lohan, (4yo, My Lucky Day x Thinking of Dreams) 2/12 in the G1 Cantala Stakes in Australia, in which stable-companion [color=red]Ch. Lupe Valez, (4yo, Point Given x Lucky Lucky Lady) was 5th.
[color=blue]Ch. Take Flight, (5yo, Major’s Flight x Foxfire) 2/9 in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes in Australia, in which stable-companion [color=blue]Ch. Pointed Question, (4yo, What’s Your Point x Take the Challenge) was 6th.

[color=red]Bowling Alley, (2yo, Alley Cat x A Fine Red Line) 13/14 in an Mdn at Woodbine.

My two runners today are half brothers, out of [color=red]Ruby Slippers.

[color=blue]Forest Guardian (3yo, Oscillation) ran 4th/8 in a NW1 steeplechase.  I’m shipping him home for a good rest, and wondering if he might not be mature yet… hoping he’ll be running like his brother in a year!

[color=blue]No Second Chances (4yo, High Chances, leased from Coleman Branch) ran 3rd/10 in the ung Woodstock Stakes, his stakes debut.

Um, youch. 1 of 8 hit the board.

[color=blue]Field of Diamonds (Ring of Fire) ran 3rd/6 in his NW2.

We decided to retire [color=blue]GCh. Glorioso, a 2011 son of Spectacular Bid. We claimed him for $10,000 from The Grey Stable 2 years ago and he went on to bank $961,150 for us and $1,157,450 in all. During his career he set 5 speed records between 10.5-13f, all but one on the dirt. He won the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1) and placed in the, Eclipse Stakes (G1), Sword Dancer Invitational (G1), Whitney Handicap (G1), Jim Dandy Stakes (G2), and Crown Royal American Turf (G3). He’s out of the Bold Ruler mare, Dark Diva (S) and is so far her only winner from 4 runners, all FF-owned.

All or nothing day, either very good or very bad  ::)

Four out of our seven runners deserve a mention.

[color=blue]GCh Quarren (4yo Sadlers Wells) was the highlight of the day winning the ungraded Great Metropolitan Handicap. He’s now stud qualified  Very pleased with him and he’ll now aim for his NCh title.

[color=blue]Devilish Style (2yo Devil His Due) broke his maiden at the first attempt in an NW1 as did [color=blue]Free At Last (2yo Highland Wizard) in an NW2.

[color=red]Flora MacDonald (3yo Point Given) finished 2nd in her OA against the boys.

Congrats!
We had some nice results too.

[color=blue]Ch. Al Mundhir finished 1st/14 in his open allowance. He didn’t reach his reserve during our auction and I’m quite happy that he’s still with us. Also, good to see him winning without a whip.

[color=red]Cabernet was 1st/6 in her second race in England. That’s her second win ever.

[color=red]Hadriana finished 4th/11 in her NW2, in front of stablemate [color=red]Intricate which was 5th.

We’ve had sort of a dismal racing week.  [color=red]Faraday was the only one out of three in the money, placing 3rd.

Exciting news about QUARREN!  Congratulations!

2/3 of our horses finished in the top 3 today, with over 50% finding the winner’s circle.  I don’t know what is giving them that extra edge, but obviously morale is pretty dang high at our stable.  Today’s races brought us up to a 45% win percentage for the year.  I fully expect that will drop as more 2YOs get going, but that’s pretty amazing so far.  Good ponies!

WINS

[color=blue]War Chest (3yo, War Chant) won his NW1, remaining undefeated in two starts.  We never started him as a 2yo due to him appearing immature.  I’m excited to see what this boy can do.  He’s the first foal of his MSW dam.

[color=blue]Bear Witness (3yo, Witness) won his NW1 as well.  He’s only been with us a short time, so we are still figuring him out.  He’s the first runner we’ve gotten to manage from our in-house stallion, so his win is particularly exciting.  His dam is SW/MSP.

[color=blue]Sign of the Cross (2yo, I’m A Classic, homebred) won his NW3, his first start.  He’s definitely one of my favorites from pedigree alone, with I’m A Classic (one of my favorite sires) and out of my best broodmare, who is also now retired.  He is 1/2 to MSWs Debut Performance, Encore Performance, & Afterglow as well as SWs Artefact & Talkofthetown.

[color=red]Holy Smokes (3yo, Holy Bull, homebred) does it again, winning a NW3.  This is her second win in a row, after I almost put her up for sale out of frustration.  I’m glad I didn’t, because I foolishly sold her dam last year.  ::)  These wins, combined with her speed record last time out (7.5f dirt) are showing merit for the future brood band.

[color=red]Alakazam (3yo, Highland Magic, homebred) won her NW3.  She was another who was headed to sale if she didn’t shape up (they seem to sense this, apparently), the eldest daughter I own from another broodmare I sold.  Her 4yo brother is now MSW under our colors, so I’m really hoping this win is a sign of things to come.

[color=red]Talkofthetown (3yo, Rumor Has It) won her first stakes race, the G3 Comely Stakes.  She’s from my best broodmare, the 1/2 sister to Sign of the Cross, above.

[color=red]Ch. With A Fleurish (4yo, Gimme A Shot, homebred) won the ungraded Lady Angela Stakes, officially earning her champion title and becoming MSW in the process.

[color=blue]Ch. Exit Poll (4yo, Irish River) won the G1 Highland Rogue Stakes.  He is a determined fellow, and this is his 5th stakes win.  He is definitely aiming for studhood, I believe.  He’s undefeated so far for the year.

PLACES

[color=blue]Coup d’Etat (3yo, Ring of Fire, homebred) finished 2nd in his claimer, but returned with us.  His record isn’t bad, but he will probably keep running in claimers or be put up for sale.

SHOWS

[color=blue]Ch. Allinvain (4yo, Worth My While, homebred) finished 3rd in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes.  I am proud of this boy, though I doubt studhood will be in his future.  He’s come a lot farther than I ever expected.

FOURTHS

[color=blue]Rahndezvous (2yo, Rahy, homebred) finished 4th in his NW2, his first start.  He’s 1/2 to SP Flight of Spring.

OFF THE BOARD
[color=blue]Ch. Cuchulain (4yo, Irish River) finished 6th in the G1 Cantala Stakes.  Darn.
[color=red]Time For Belles (5yo, Slew O’Scots) finished 8th.  Probably over the hill, just trying to get her 10 starts in.
[color=red]Art of Love (2yo, High On Love) finished 8th in her maiden.
[color=blue]D’angelo (3yo, Strider, homebred) was dead last after a win last time out.  The biggest difference was the weather.  Maybe he’s a mudder?

Today couldn’t have gone much better sent 9 out and everyone was on the board!

Wins
[color=red]Hazari (3yo, As You Wish) won her NW2 allowance
[color=blue]Rasputan (3yo, Devil His Due) won his open allowance, his second win in a row
[color=red]Heavens To Betsy (3yo, High Chances) FINALLY broke her maiden!
[color=red]Firey Dancer (3yo, All Jazzed Up) won the Yankee Affair Stakes, her first stakes win! I have high hopes for this filly
[color=blue]Lake Highlands (4yo, Highland Bandit) won the Bob Slater Stakes, high second stakes win in a row and forth win in a row!

Places
[color=red]Uncanny Yodel (5yo, Highland Bandit) in the Bay Shore Stakes. Very pleased with her so far this season
[color=red]Solo Sunset (4yo, War Chant) in the Lady Angela Stakes, I debated entering her because I had to ship her last minute but definitely glad I did!

Shows
[color=blue]Overqualified (3yo, High Chances) in a maiden, his best placing so far… I’ll take it

4ths
[color=blue]Highland Bound (3yo, Highland Bandit)in a NW3 allowance

9(4)-5(2)-2(2)-1-1 $230,900

One of our better days 6 out and only 1 just out of the money (he usually runs turf :frowning: )

Win
[color=blue]Moonless Night (Nightfight) from the 14th post position coming over the wire 2 1/4 lengths in front! Got him at auction for $30,500 , he is half to ch moon beam,ch putting on the ritz, and other  winners

Places
[color=blue]My Guardian Angel (I’m your angel) only losing by 3/4 of a length
[color=blue]Killer Sorm (giants causeway) only losing by a nose

Show
[color=blue]Set It Off in the derby trial they were all separated  by a neck in the top 3!

4th
[color=red]Got Goosed (rumor has it) only girl out this race was a photo finish with everyone separated by a nose at the finish

[color=blue]Whatsinaname derby trial was just out of the money in 6th he prefers turf

Wow, Alyssa, reading about all your wins made me really jealous!

Three today, won just enough money to keep me where I was.

[color=blue]Ch. Alfresco ran in 5.5f Allowance for 3yo (T) and placed 2nd/6. He’s taking a break from stakes for a few. Sort of let go of my dreams of studification, just hoping to get to GCh. now.

[color=green]Ch. Gallant Affair ran in 10.5f Allowance for 4yo+ (D) and placed 3rd/14. Losing his manhood didn’t change anything. Still solid but nothing excellent.

[color=green]Ch. Flight Line ran in 9.5f Gr. 3 Bay Shore Stakes for 3yo+ (SC) and placed 8th/10. He’s done so well this year when I don’t look at the stakes. I think he’s gotten a little too old to compete with the young guys anymore. He’s now retired from stakes and will remain an allowance runner until he gives up entirely.
