Exciting news about QUARREN! Congratulations!
2/3 of our horses finished in the top 3 today, with over 50% finding the winner’s circle. I don’t know what is giving them that extra edge, but obviously morale is pretty dang high at our stable. Today’s races brought us up to a 45% win percentage for the year. I fully expect that will drop as more 2YOs get going, but that’s pretty amazing so far. Good ponies!
WINS
[color=blue]War Chest (3yo, War Chant) won his NW1, remaining undefeated in two starts. We never started him as a 2yo due to him appearing immature. I’m excited to see what this boy can do. He’s the first foal of his MSW dam.
[color=blue]Bear Witness (3yo, Witness) won his NW1 as well. He’s only been with us a short time, so we are still figuring him out. He’s the first runner we’ve gotten to manage from our in-house stallion, so his win is particularly exciting. His dam is SW/MSP.
[color=blue]Sign of the Cross (2yo, I’m A Classic, homebred) won his NW3, his first start. He’s definitely one of my favorites from pedigree alone, with I’m A Classic (one of my favorite sires) and out of my best broodmare, who is also now retired. He is 1/2 to MSWs Debut Performance, Encore Performance, & Afterglow as well as SWs Artefact & Talkofthetown.
[color=red]Holy Smokes (3yo, Holy Bull, homebred) does it again, winning a NW3. This is her second win in a row, after I almost put her up for sale out of frustration. I’m glad I didn’t, because I foolishly sold her dam last year. These wins, combined with her speed record last time out (7.5f dirt) are showing merit for the future brood band.
[color=red]Alakazam (3yo, Highland Magic, homebred) won her NW3. She was another who was headed to sale if she didn’t shape up (they seem to sense this, apparently), the eldest daughter I own from another broodmare I sold. Her 4yo brother is now MSW under our colors, so I’m really hoping this win is a sign of things to come.
[color=red]Talkofthetown (3yo, Rumor Has It) won her first stakes race, the G3 Comely Stakes. She’s from my best broodmare, the 1/2 sister to Sign of the Cross, above.
[color=red]Ch. With A Fleurish (4yo, Gimme A Shot, homebred) won the ungraded Lady Angela Stakes, officially earning her champion title and becoming MSW in the process.
[color=blue]Ch. Exit Poll (4yo, Irish River) won the G1 Highland Rogue Stakes. He is a determined fellow, and this is his 5th stakes win. He is definitely aiming for studhood, I believe. He’s undefeated so far for the year.
PLACES
[color=blue]Coup d’Etat (3yo, Ring of Fire, homebred) finished 2nd in his claimer, but returned with us. His record isn’t bad, but he will probably keep running in claimers or be put up for sale.
SHOWS
[color=blue]Ch. Allinvain (4yo, Worth My While, homebred) finished 3rd in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes. I am proud of this boy, though I doubt studhood will be in his future. He’s come a lot farther than I ever expected.
FOURTHS
[color=blue]Rahndezvous (2yo, Rahy, homebred) finished 4th in his NW2, his first start. He’s 1/2 to SP Flight of Spring.
OFF THE BOARD
[color=blue]Ch. Cuchulain (4yo, Irish River) finished 6th in the G1 Cantala Stakes. Darn.
[color=red]Time For Belles (5yo, Slew O’Scots) finished 8th. Probably over the hill, just trying to get her 10 starts in.
[color=red]Art of Love (2yo, High On Love) finished 8th in her maiden.
[color=blue]D’angelo (3yo, Strider, homebred) was dead last after a win last time out. The biggest difference was the weather. Maybe he’s a mudder?
